Improved limits on the lepton-flavor violating decays tau(-) -> l(-)l(+)l(-)

2007

A search for the neutrinoless, lepton-flavor violating decay of the tau lepton into three charged leptons has been performed using 376fb-1 of data collected at an e+e- center-of-mass energy around 10.58 GeV with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II storage rings. In all six decay modes considered, the numbers of events found in data are compatible with the background expectations. Upper limits on the branching fractions are set in the range (4-8)×10-8 at 90% confidence level. © 2007 The American Physical Society.

On baryogenesis from dark matter annihilation

2013

We study in detail the conditions to generate the baryon asymmetry of the universe from the annihilation of dark matter. This scenario requires a low energy mechanism for thermal baryogenesis, hence we first discuss some of these mechanisms together with the specific constraints due to the connection with the dark matter sector. Then we show that, contrary to what stated in previous studies, it is possible to generate the cosmological asymmetry without adding a light sterile dark sector, both in models with violation and with conservation of B – L. In addition, one of the models we propose yields some connection to neutrino masses.

The kinetics of defect accumulation under irradiation: many-particle effects

1993

The kinetics of Frenkel defect accumulation under permanent particle source (irradiation) is discussed with special emphasis on many-particle effects. Defect accumulation is restricted by their diffusion and annihilation, A + B → 0, if the relative distance is less than the critical distance r0. A novel formalism of many-point particle densities based on Kirkwood's superposition approximation is developed to take into account aggregation of similar defects (A−A, B−B). The dependence of the saturation concentration after a prolonged irradiation upon spatial dimension ( = 1, 2, 3), defect mobility and the initial correlation within geminate pairs is analyzed. It is shown that the defect conce…

Measurement of the D→K−π+ strong phase difference in ψ(3770)→D0D¯0

2014

Abstract We study D 0 D ¯ 0 pairs produced in e + e − collisions at s = 3.773 GeV using a data sample of 2.92 fb−1 collected with the BESIII detector. We measured the asymmetry A K π CP of the branching fractions of D → K − π + in CP-odd and CP-even eigenstates to be ( 12.7 ± 1.3 ± 0.7 ) × 10 − 2 . A K π CP can be used to extract the strong phase difference δ K π between the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed process D ¯ 0 → K − π + and the Cabibbo-favored process D 0 → K − π + . Using world-average values of external parameters, we obtain cos δ K π = 1.02 ± 0.11 ± 0.06 ± 0.01 . Here, the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively, while the third uncertainty arises …

Correlation between Zn vacancies and photoluminescence emission in ZnO films.

2006

Photoluminescence and positron annihilation spectroscopy have been used to characterize and identify vacancy-type defects produced in ZnO films grown on sapphire by metal-organic chemical-vapor deposition. The photoluminescence of the samples in the near band edge region has been studied, paying particular attention to the emission at 370.5 nm (3.346 eV). This emission has been correlated to the concentration of Zn vacancies in the films, which has been determined by positron annihilation spectroscopy. Jesus.Zuniga@uv.es Vicente.Munoz@uv.es

Measurement of the jet fragmentation function and transverse profile in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV with the ATLAS d…

2011

The jet fragmentation function and transverse profile for jets with 25 GeV<pT jet<500 GeV and |ηjet|<1.2 produced in proton–proton collisions with a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV are presented. The measurement is performed using data with an integrated luminosity of 36 pb−1. Jets are reconstructed and their momentum measured using calorimetric information. The momenta of the charged particle constituents are measured using the tracking system. The distributions corrected for detector effects are compared with various Monte Carlo event generators and generator tunes. Several of these choices show good agreement with the measured fragmentation function. None of these choices reproduce both t…

Electromagnetic Structure of the Neutron from Annihilation Reactions

2022

The investigation of the fundamental properties of the nucleon is one of the most important topics in the modern hadron physics. Its internal structure and dynamics can be studied through the measurement of electromagnetic form factors which represent the simplest structure observables and serve as a test ground for our understanding of the strong interaction. Since the first attempt to measure the time-like form factors of the neutron, only four experiments published results on its structure from annihilation reactions. Due to the lack of statistics and experimental challenges, no individual determination of the form factors of the neutron has been possible so far. Modern developments of e…

Measurements of the absolute branching fractions forDs+→ηe+νeandDs+→η′e+νe

2016

By analyzing 482 pb(-1) of e(+)e(-) collision data collected at root s = 4.009 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we measure the absolute branching fractions for the semileptonic decays D-s(+) -> eta e(+)nu(e) and D-s(+) -> eta ' e(+)nu(e) to be B(D-s(+) -> eta e(+)nu(e)) = (2.30 +/- 0.31 +/- 0.08)% and B(D-s(+) -> eta ' e(+)nu(e)) = (0.93 +/- 0.30 +/- 0.05)%, respectively, and their ratio B(D-s(+) -> eta ' e(+)nu(e)) / B(D-s(+) -> eta ' e(+)nu(e)) = 0.40 +/- 0.14 +/- 0.02, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones are systematic. The results are in good agreement with previous measurements within uncertainties; they can be used to determine the eta…

Amplitude Analysis of theB±→φK*(892)±Decay

2007

We perform an amplitude analysis of B-+/-->phi(1020)K-*(892)(+/-) decay with a sample of about 384x10(6) B (B) over bar pairs recorded with the BABAR detector. Overall, twelve parameters are measured, including the fractions of longitudinal f(L) and parity-odd transverse f(perpendicular to) amplitudes, branching fraction, strong phases, and six parameters sensitive to CP violation. We use the dependence on the K pi invariant mass of the interference between the J(P)=1(-) and 0(+) K pi components to resolve the discrete ambiguity in the determination of the strong and weak phases. Our measurements of f(L)=0.49 +/- 0.05 +/- 0.03, f(perpendicular to)=0.21 +/- 0.05 +/- 0.02, and the strong phas…

Observation ofe+e−→γX(3872)at BESIII

2014

Using data collected with the BESIII detector operating at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider at center-of-mass energies of root s = 4.23, 4.26, and 4.36 GeV, we observe e(+)e(-) -> pi(0)pi(0)h(c) for the first time. The Born cross sections are measured and found to be about half of those of e(+)e(-) -> pi(+)pi(-)h(c) within less than 2 sigma. In the pi(0)h(c) mass spectrum, a structure at 4.02 GeV/c(2) is found. It is most likely to be the neutral isospin partner of the Z(c)(4020)(+/-) observed in the process of e(+)e(-) -> pi(+)pi(-)h(c) being found. A fit to the pi(0)h(c) invariant mass spectrum, with the width of the Z(c)(4020)(0) fixed to that of its charged isospin partner and pos…
