Tucupentol, a novel mono-tetrahydrofuranic acetogenin from Annona montana, as a potent inhibitor of mitochondrial complex I.

2009

Ten acetogenins, one of them new, were isolated from leaves and twigs of a Bolivian collection of Annona montana. The new compound that we named tucupentol (1) is a mono-tetrahydrofuranpentahydroxy-acetogenin. The inhibitory potency of tucupentol (1) on the mitochondrial complex I was evaluated, and this activity was compared with that of the known acetogenins, annonacin-A, cisannonacin-10-one, aromin, and gigantetronenin, also isolated from this plant material. The mentioned acetogenins acted as selective inhibitors of mitochondrial complex I in the 0.8-5.4-nM range. Fil: Álvarez Colom, Olga. Universidad Nacional de Tucumán. Cytotoxicity and antileishmanial activity of Annona muricata pericarp

2000

Abstract Hexane, ethyl acetate and methanol extracts of Annona muricata pericarp were tested in vitro against Leishmania braziliensis and L. panamensis promastigotes, and against cell line U-937. The ethyl acetate extract was more active than the other extracts and even of Glucantime® used as reference substance. Its fractionation led to the isolation of three acetogenins — annonacin, annonacin A and annomuricin A.

Parallel diversifications of Cremastosperma and Mosannona (Annonaceae), tropical rainforest trees tracking Neogene upheaval of the South American con…

2017

AbstractThis preprint has been reviewed and recommended by Peer Community In Evolutionary Biology (http://dx.doi.org/10.24072/pci.evolbiol.100033). Much of the immense present day biological diversity of Neotropical rainforests originated from the Miocene onwards, a period of geological and ecological upheaval in South America. We assess the impact of the Andean orogeny, drainage of lake Pebas, and closure of the Panama Isthmus on two clades of trees (Cremastosperma, c. 31 spp.; and Mosannona, c. 14 spp.; both Annonaceae) found in humid forest distributed across the transition zones between the Andes and Western (lowland) Amazonia and between Central and South America. We inferred phylogeni…

Stereoselective synthesis of the naturally occurring styryllactones (+)-goniofufurone and (+)-cardiobutanolide.

2004

The naturally occurring gamma-lactones (+)-goniofufurone 1 and (+)-cardiobutanolide 2, two pharmacologically active products from Goniothalamus species (Annonaceae), have been synthesized in enantiopure form using l-erythrulose as the chiral starting material. Key steps of these syntheses were a stereoselective anti boron aldol reaction and an asymmetric allylboration.

Pomological, Sensorial, Nutritional and Nutraceutical Profile of Seven Cultivars of Cherimoya (Annona cherimola Mill)

2020

In this work, the food quality of four international (Campas, Chaffey, Fino de Jete and White) and three local (Daniela, Torre1 and Torre2) cultivars of Cherimoya (Annona cherimola Mill) was investigated. With this aim, pomological traits, sensorial attributes, physiochemical parameters (pH, total soluble content and total acidity), nutritional composition (macro- and micro-nutrients) and nutraceutical values (bioactive compounds, radical scavenging and antioxidant properties) were evaluated. Among the seven observed cultivars, Fino de Jete was identified as the best, not only for its commercial attributes such as pomological traits and physiochemical values, but also for its nutritional co…

Cytotoxic Potencial Acetogenins ofAnnonaGenus

2016

Over the centuries, nature has contributed to the basic needs of human beings. In particular, plants have cooperated as a source of drugs for the treatment of a broad spectrum of diseases because of the structural diversity of secondary metabolites. With strict attention to antineoplastic therapy, the search for anticancer drugs has increased in order to meet more specific and selective treatments. The acetogenins (ACGs), a class of secondary metabolites found exclusively in the family Annonaceae, are substances of great importance due to their well-known cytotoxic potency in human tumor cell lines in vitro , which can be exploited in designing anticancer agents. Among the 150 genera of Ann…

Anti-inflammatory activity of berenjenol and related compounds.

2008

Berenjenol ( 1), isolated from OXANDRA cf. XYLOPIOIDES (Annonaceae), was tested on two different experimental models of inflammation. The compound showed anti-inflammatory activity in the test of acute mouse ear edema induced by TPA (54 % inhibition, 1 μmol/ear) as well as in the test of subchronic inflammation induced by repeated application of TPA (57 % inhibition, 7 × 1 μmol/ear). Moreover, while it reduced the expression of both COX-2 (65 % inhibition at 50 μM) and iNOS (80 % inhibition at 50 μM), it was not active against TNF- α and IL-1 β in murine macrophages (RAW 264.7) stimulated with LPS. Structural modification of 1 gave two derivatives, berenjenol acetate ( 2) and 3-oxo-berenjen…

Chromone and phenanthrene alkaloids from Dennettia tripetala.

2002

Dennettine, a new 2,6-dimethoxychromone and three known phenanthrene alkaloids (uvariopsine, stephenanthrine and argentinine) in addition to the phenolic and known compound vanillin were isolated from the roots of Dennettia tripetala. Their structures were determined by physical and spectroscopical one dimensional (1D) and 2D-NMR analysis, including heteronuclear multiple bond correlation and nuclear Overhauser enhancement spectroscopy.
