Abstract Aims Aircraft noise causes endothelial dysfunction, oxidative stress, and inflammation. Transportation noise increases the incidence of coronary artery disease, hypertension, and stroke. The underlying mechanisms are not well understood. Herein, we investigated effects of phagocyte-type NADPH oxidase (Nox2) knockout and different noise protocols (around-the-clock, sleep/awake phase noise) on vascular and cerebral complications in mice. Type of surgery is associated with pain and walking difficulties among older people with previous hip fracture

Aim The aim was to assess the level of lower body pain among people with previous femoral neck fracture, and whether the type of surgery was associated with pain and physical function a mean of 2 years after surgery. Methods The study included 115 community-dwelling older adults aged 60 years and older with previous femoral neck fracture, and 31 reference subjects without previous lower limb injuries. A total of 30 patients had internal fixation surgery, 70 had hemiarthroplasty and 15 had total hip replacement. Uses of change-over designs and repeated measurements in sensory and consumer studies

Abstract The paper illustrates two statistical methods, the design and analysis of sensory experiments taking into account the effects of serving order and previously assessed treatment and the analysis of experiments with time repeated measurements. Change-over design experiments balance both presentation order and carry-over effects. Adolescents’ physical, emotional and social balance: a concept of pedagogical assistance and social rehabilitation

The paper summarizes research findings from two scientific fields (pedagogical and medical), which confirm that there are substantial discrepancies in an individuals’ biological, psychological and social development in the period of adolescence leading to a developmental imbalance mainly related to learning. The article offers for discussion a possible conceptual approach and practice-grounded changes of pedagogical provisions to improve teenagers’ physical, psycho-emotional balance and social rehabilitation culminating in overall well-being.

Rate of concurrent augmented auditory feedback in postural control learning in adolescents

Introduction: The main objective of this study was to determine the rate of auditory concurrent feedback that best enhanced the learning of a continuous postural task in adolescents. Material and methods: A sample of thirty adolescents (13 to 14-years old) was used, who were assigned to three groups: i) control group (CG); ii) 100% auditory feedback group and iii) 67% auditory feedback group. The subjects performed a pre-test, practice, post-test and a retention (24 hours after the practice). Trunk stability is evaluated by automatic responses to unpredictable perturbations; however, electromyography is challenging. Introduction/Background Frailty is a multidimensional condition, which can lead to disability. To postpone long-term care, one alternative is home-based physiotherapy.
