Thermodynamic study on phase equilibrium of epoxy resin/thermoplastic blends
2008
Abstract The experimental phase diagrams (cloud point curves) of three series of epoxy/thermoplastic blends, namely, epoxy/polystyrene (PS), epoxy/poly(ether sulfone) (PES), and epoxy/poly(ether imide) (PEI) as a function of molar mass and composition have been analysed from a thermodynamic point of view. A model based on the Flory–Huggins lattice theory considering the concentration dependence of the interaction parameter as predicted by Koningsveld was employed to determine the equilibrium compositions, and concentration and temperature dependent interaction parameters. Binodal, spinodal, and critical point data have been computed and show good agreement with experimental data.
Reshaping Field of View and Resolution with Segmented Reflectors: Bridging the Gap between Rotating and Solid-State LiDARs
2020
This paper describes the first simulations and experimental results of a novel segmented Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR) reflector. Large portions of the rotating LiDAR data are typically discarded due to occlusion or a misplaced field of view (FOV). The proposed reflector solves this problem by reflecting the entire FOV of the rotating LiDAR towards a target. Optical simulation results, using Zemax OpticStudio, suggest that adding a reflector reduces the range of the embedded LiDAR with only 3 . 9 . Furthermore, pattern simulation results show that a radially reshaped FOV can be configured to maximize point cloud density, maximize coverage, or a combination. Here, the maximum density i…
Traditional Enterprise Business Intelligence Software Compared to Software as a Service Business Intelligence
2016
IntroductionBusiness Intelligence is a broad field of study. The major thrust of business intelligence theory analyzes certain factors to make highquality decisions. These factors include customers, competitors, business partners, economic environment and internal operations. Business Intelligence has the power to change the way people work, so that enterprises can compete more effectively and efficiently.A successful business intelligence solutions and successful implementation holds the key to the technological innovations together with the people, processes and culture of an organization to achieve a competitive and profitable BI strategy.Business Intelligence (BI) is the process of acqu…
ALMA spectral survey of Supernova 1987A – molecular inventory, chemistry, dynamics and explosive nucleosynthesis
2017
We report the first molecular line survey of Supernova 1987A in the millimetre wavelength range. In the ALMA 210--300 and 340--360 GHz spectra, we detected cold (20--170 K) CO, 28SiO, HCO+ and SO, with weaker lines of 29SiO from ejecta. This is the first identification of HCO+ and SO in a young supernova remnant. We find a dip in the J=6--5 and 5--4 SiO line profiles, suggesting that the ejecta morphology is likely elongated. The difference of the CO and SiO line profiles is consistent with hydrodynamic simulations, which show that Rayleigh-Taylor instabilities cause mixing of gas, with heavier elements much more disturbed, making more elongated structure. We obtained isotopologue ratios of…
A statistical subgrid-scale algorithm for precipitation formation in stratiform clouds in the ECHAM5 single column model
2011
Abstract. Cloud properties are usually assumed to be homogeneous within the cloudy part of the grid-box, i.e. subgrid-scale inhomogeneities in cloud cover and/or microphysical properties are often neglected. However, precipitation formation is initiated by large particles. Thus mean values are not representative and could lead to a delayed onset of precipitation. For a more physical description of the subgrid-scale structure of clouds we introduce a new statistical sub-column algorithm to study the impact of cloud inhomogeneities on stratiform precipitation. Each model column is divided into N independent sub-columns with sub-boxes in each layer, which are completely clear or cloudy. The cl…
The ATAL within the 2017 Asian Monsoon Anticyclone: Microphysical aerosol properties derived from aircraft-borne in situ measurements
2021
The Asian summer monsoon is an effective pathway for aerosol particles and precursors from the planetary boundary layer over Central, South, and East Asia into the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere. An enhancement of aerosol particles within the Asian monsoon anticyclone (AMA), called the Asian tropopause aerosol layer (ATAL), has been observed by satellites. We discuss airborne in situ and remote sensing observations of aerosol microphysical properties conducted during the 2017 StratoClim field campaign within the AMA region. The aerosol particle measurements aboard the high-altitude research aircraft M55 Geophysica (maximum altitude reached of about 20.5 km) were conducted with a m…
Non-radial pulsations in be stars. Preparation of the corot space mission
2006
The general objective of the present work is to contribute to the knowledge of the physics of Be Stars. In particular, we are interested in studying and characterizing their pulsational properties. A very suitable tool to reach this goal is the study and analysis of photometric time series with the maximum time baseline, density and photometric accuracy. The space mission COROT scheduled to be launched in December 2006, will provide ultra high precision, relative stellar photometry for very long continuous observing runs. Up to ten stars will be observed in the seismology fields with a photometric accuracy of a few 10-4 and color information during 150 days. The observations of Be stars with …
Application of integrative cloud point extraction and concentration for the analysis of polyphenols and alkaloids in mulberry leaves
2018
Abstract A simple and efficient method based on cloud point extraction and concentration combined with high performance liquid chromatography was developed for the simultaneous separation and determination of five target compounds (deoxynojirimycin, chlorogenic acid, rutin, isoquercitrin and astragalin) in mulberry leaves samples. Firstly, to obtain a high extraction rate, the ultrasound assisted extraction was developed on acid modified Triton X-114 system. Under the optimal conditions, the total maximum extraction yields of five target compounds reached 20.80 mg/g, which was superior to conventional solvent extraction. After the cloud point extraction and concentration, the HPLC analysis …
Sensitivity of L-band vegetation optical depth to carbon stocks in tropical forests: a comparison to higher frequencies and optical indices
2019
Supplementary data to this article can be found online at https://doi.org/10.1016/j.rse.2019.111303. Monitoring vegetation carbon in tropical regions is essential to the global carbon assessment and to evaluate the actions oriented to the reduction of forest degradation. Mainly, satellite optical vegetation indices and LiDAR data have been used to this purpose. These two techniques are limited by cloud cover and are sensitive only to the top of vegetation. In addition, the vegetation attenuation to the soil microwave emission, represented by the vegetation optical depth (VOD), has been applied for biomass estimation using frequencies ranging from 4 to 30¿GHz (C- to K-bands). Atmosphere is t…
Water uptake and equilibrium sizes of aerosol particles at high relative humidities: Their dependence on the composition of the water-soluble material
1978
Equilibrium water uptake and the sizes of atmospheric aerosol particles have for the first time been determined for high relative humidities, i.e., for humidities above 95 percent, as a function of the particles chemical composition. For that purpose a new treatment of the osmotic coefficient has been developed and experimentally confirmed. It is shown that the equilibrium water uptake and the equilibrium sizes of atmospheric aerosol particles at large relative humidities are significantly dependent on their chemical composition.
