Chemistry of lanthanide–metal carbonyl systems: the ytterbium–chromium carbonyls interaction
2001
Abstract The interaction of the chromium carbonyl hydrides HCr2(CO)10− or HCr(CO)5− with Yb(acac)3·3H2O has been investigated, and the experimental conditions leading to the isolation of ytterbium–chromium carbonyl complex species are reported. Formulation of the coordination compounds produced by such interactions has been proposed on the basis of analytical data and IR spectroscopy.
“Two-Story” Calix[6]arene-Based Zinc and Copper Complexes: Structure, Properties, and O 2 Binding
2017
International audience; A new “two-story” calix[6]arene-based ligand was synthesized, and its coordination chemistry was explored. It presents a tren cap connected to the calixarene small rim through three amido spacers. X-ray diffraction studies of its metal complexes revealed a six-coordinate ZnII complex with all of the carbonyl groups of the amido arms bound and a five-coordinate CuII complex with only one amido arm bound. These dicationic complexes were poorly responsive toward exogenous neutral donors, but the amido arms were readily displaced by small anions or deprotonated with a base to give the corresponding monocationic complexes. Cyclic voltammetry in various solvents showed a r…
Oxidovanadium(v) complexes with l-proline-based amino acid phenolates
2019
L-proline was used to prepare chiral, tridentate amino acid phenol proligands H2L1—4. These proligands react with vanadium precursors VO(acac)2, VOSO4 ∙ 5 H2O and VO(OPr)3 in methanol to form the corresponding oxidoalkoxidovanadium(V) complexes 1—4. The complexes crystallize from methanol, and are octahedrally coordinated with a general formula [VO(L1—4)(OMe)(MeOH)]. In solution, however, they adopt several different conformations or isomeric structures depending on the solvent. peerReviewed
Coordination Chemistry of a Bis(Tetrazine) Tweezer: A Case of Host-Guest Behavior with Silver Salts
2021
The carbon-carbon cross-coupling of phenyl s-tetrazine (Tz) units at their ortho-phenyl positions allows the formation of constrained bis(tetrazines) with original tweezer structures. In these compounds, the face-to-face positioning of the central tetrazine cores is reinforced by π-stacking of the electron-poor nitrogen-containing heteroaromatic moieties. The resulting tetra-aromatic structure can be used as a weak coordinating ligand with cationic silver. This coordination generates a set of bis(tetrazine)-silver(I) coordination complexes tolerating a large variety of counter anions of various geometries, namely, PF6−, BF4−, SbF6−, ClO4−, NTf2−, and OTf−. These compounds were characterized…
Catalysis Concepts in Medicinal Inorganic Chemistry
2018
Catalysis has strongly emerged in the field of medicinal inorganic chemistry as a suitable tool to deliver new drug candidates and to overcome drawbacks associated to metallodrugs. In this Concept article, we discuss representative examples of how catalysis has been applied in combination with metal complexes to deliver new therapy approaches. In particular, we explain key achievements in the design of catalytic metallodrugs that damage biomolecular targets and in the development of metal catalysis schemes for the activation of exogenous organic prodrugs. Moreover, we discuss our recent discoveries on the flavin-mediated bioorthogonal catalytic activation of metal-based prodrugs; a new cata…
Coordination chemistry on surfaces through vapor phase processing: smart molecular/graphene heterostructures based on spin-crossover complexes and 2D…
2023

Eight coordination compounds of formulae [FeII(L˙)2][ReIVCl6] (1a), [FeII(L˙)2][ReIVBr6] (1b), [CoII(L˙)2][ReIVCl6]·CH3CN (2a), [CoII(L˙)2][ReIVBr6] (2b), [NiII(L˙)(CH3CN)3][ReIVCl6]·CH3CN (3a), [NiII(L˙)(CH3CN)3][ReIVBr6]·3CH3CN (3b), [CuII(L˙)2][ReIVCl6] (4a) and [CuII(L˙)2][ReIVBr6] (4b), where L˙ is the aminoxyl radical chelating ligand, 4,4′-dimethyl-2,2′-di(2-pyridyl)oxazolidine-N-oxide, have been synthesised. Structural and magnetic studies reveal metal–radical intramolecular antiferromagnetic interactions in the [MII(L˙)2]2+ cations in the iron, cobalt and copper based compounds (1a, 1b, 2a, 2b, 4a and 4b) with the central metal ion low-spin in the case of iron (1a and 1b) and a gra…
A nucleophilic gold complex.
2019
Solid-state auride salts featuring the negatively charged Au– ion are known to be stable in the presence of alkali metal counterions. While such electron-rich species might be expected to be nucleophilic (in the same manner as I–, for example), their instability in solution means that this has not been verified experimentally. Here we report a two-coordinate gold complex (NON)AlAuPtBu3 (where NON is the chelating tridentate ligand 4,5-bis(2,6-diisopropylanilido)-2,7-di-tert-butyl-9,9-dimethylxanthene) that features a strongly polarized bond, Auδ––Alδ+. This is synthesized by reaction of the potassium aluminyl compound [K{Al(NON)}]2 with tBu3PAuI. Computational studies of the complex, includ…
Spectroscopy and Coordination Chemistry of a New Bisnaphthalene−Bisphenanthroline Ligand Displaying a Sensing Ability for Metal Cations
2005
A new fluorescent macrocyclic structure (L1) bearing two naphthalene units at both ends of a cyclic polyaminic chain containing two phenanthroline units was investigated with potentiometric and fluorescence (steady-state and time-resolved) techniques. The fluorescence emission spectra show the simultaneous presence of three bands: a short wavelength emission band (naphthalene monomer), a middle emission band (phenanthroline emission), and a long-wavelength band. All three bands were found to be dependent on the protonation state of the macrocyclic unit (including the polyaminic and phenanthroline structures). The existence of the long-wavelength emission band is discussed and is shown to im…
