The minor as major: Outsiderness and social class in Saara Turunen’s prose

Saara Turunen’s Sivuhenkilö is a work of autofiction, which tells the story of a year in its unnamed protagonist’s life. Despite her success as an author, the protagonist feels like a minor character in her own life: an outsider both because of her gender and her profession as a writer. In this article, I offer a critical reading of Turunen’s prose by asking what political implications are attached to her handling of outsiderness. I approach outsiderness not merely as a theme, but also as a genre-specific feature peculiar to the tradition of feminist rewriting. Las trayectorias de empleabilidad de los jóvenes que salen del sistema de protección se ven condicionadas por su situación de exclusión social. Nuestra investigación persigue: a) analizar las trayectorias de los jóvenes extutelados y b) examinar cómo sus experiencias vitales y laborales influyen en su situación de exclusión. Se realizó un estudio de casos múltiples con cuatro jóvenes inmigrantes y tres nacionales. La selección de los casos tuvo en cuenta: a) haber estado acogido al sistema de protección, b) haber pasado un mínimo de 6 meses en un programa de inserción laboral, c) haber transcurrido 6 años después de finalizar el proyecto de inserción. Un capitolo della fortuna europea del «Liber facetiarum» di Poggio Bracciolini riguarda le rielaborazioni e le riscritture di alcune di esse nelle commedie spagnole del secolo XVII (il cosiddetto “Siglo de oro”). This paper studies the final statements (“golden minutes”) of televised electoral debates in Spain between 1993 and 2019. The methodology is adjusted to the cognitive analysis of discourse, analyzing three pragmatic indicators that could reveal an evolution in three stages of Spanish politics: the bipartisan phase (1993-2011), an adjustment phase (2011-2015) and a multiparty phase (2015- 2019). The discursive spaces dependent on the predicative strategy, the predominant illocutionary force, and the use of superstructures are analyzed.
