: Evolution of the examination at the end of college in sub-Saharan Africa

The evolution of schooling in the developing systems in sub-Saharan Africa has brought a sizeable new population into the colleges. Unfortunately, the scarcity of resources and the need to pursue development of basic education prevents maintaining this population in the lycees. Thus the examination at the end of college becomes the focus of very stressful management of different currents and finds itself divided about aims which are not easy to reconcile. Original solutions can be found, as is the case in Mauretania, while the combination of better-known solutions may allow this examination to deal with these contradictions.

International audience; L'objet de l'analyse est de relier l'enseignement (ses méthodes et ses contenus) au fonctionnement du marché du travail, en se concentrant spécifiquement sur les formations artistiques. L'auteur part des caractéristiques de l’œuvre d'art et montre comment ce bien hors du commun est, de façon a priori paradoxale et avec d'éventuelles tensions, enseigné. Il pose la question de la médiation du maître, de la place de la certification. Il en pointe les conséquences sur la relation - difficile - entre la formation et l'emploi et, en réponse, la tendance à la professionnalisation vers laquelle semblent s'orienter les écoles d'art.

This study in comparative physical education examines the curricula followed by physical-education teachers in China and France. It explores how theories of physical education and sport in each country have developed out of specific political, cultural and educational contexts, yet resulted in strong similarities in terms of the priority given to training programs. Nonetheless, it can be seen that the two curricula reflect genuinely divergent concepts of physical education influencing both theory and practice. The French "lycée" (higher secondary school), pupils are faced with successive subjects choices, and with the choice of Baccalauréat's speciality. This paper investigates from empirical data how these choices are progressively generated, along time and under which academic and social mechanisms. Those academic subjects choices prove to be influenced less by educational factors than by the concern to optimize one's schooling career. As long as the different routes are perceived as a hierarchy, and if concern for distinction and utilitarism are prevailing, the relevance of the notion of project has to be questionned.
