Plus d'éducation, pour qui, pour quoi ?

2005

2003

The author outlines the theoretical and sociological considerations influencing the decision-making cycle for the French education ministry. He makes the case that education policy has been guided by ideological and political considerations rather than by scientific evidence and evaluation-based processes. He calls for widespread use of external appraisals involving the concerned actors.

Drimane Sesquiterpenoids from Marasmius sp. Inhibiting the Conidial Germination of Plant-Pathogenic Fungi

2012

From the basidiomycete Marasmius sp., strain IBWF 96046, three new sesquiterpenoids based on the drimane skeleton were isolated and named marasmene B and marasmals B and C. In this study, their isolation, structure elucidation, and biological evaluation are described. The compounds have a pronounced inhibitory effect on the conidial germination of several plant-pathogenic fungi.

Problems and challenges for the Politics of Education before the change of prominence experienced by educational actors

2013

This paper deals with some of the problems that the Politics of Education has to face both as a subject and as a government action. Based above all on the literature appeared in specialized journals during the last five years, our attention is firstly focused on the concern for using an active methodology in the teaching of this subject which places students at the center of the teaching-learning process with the aim of encouraging their interest in its contents and inducing them to acquire civic competences. Secondly, the new but already deeply-rooted neoliberal conception of education is used to describe some of its policies, such as accountability, assessment and free choice of school. O…

Next generation diagnostic algorithm in non-small cell lung cancer predictive molecular pathology: The KWAY Italian multicenter cost evaluation study

2022

Abstract Aims The KWAY project aims to investigate the economic sustainability of the up-front NGS technologies adoption in the analysis of clinically relevant molecular alterations in NSCLC patients. Methods The diagnostic workflow and the related sustained costs of five Italian referral centers were assessed in four different evolving scenarios were analyzed. For each scenario, two alternative testing strategies were evaluated: the Maximized Standard strategy and the Maximized NGS strategy. Results For each center, the robustness of obtained results was verified through a deterministic sensitivity analysis, observing the variation of total costs based on a variation of ±20 % of the input …

Construct and predictive validity of a self-reported measure of preclinical mobility limitation.

2007

Abstract Manty M, Heinonen A, Leinonen R, Tormakangas T, Sakari-Rantala R, Hirvensalo M, von Bonsdorff MB, Rantanen T. Construct and predictive validity of a self-reported measure of preclinical mobility limitation. Objectives To validate self-reported preclinical mobility limitation concept and self-report assessment method against muscle power and walking speed, and to study the predictive validity of preclinical mobility limitation with respect to future risk of manifest mobility limitation. Design Observational prospective cohort study and cross-sectional analysis. Setting Research laboratory and community. Participants A total of 632 community-living (age range, 75−81y) women and men t…

2004

To try and reduce school achievement discrepancies at primary school, an original set of actions has been conceived and implemented in the area of Haute Marne. The idea is to provide primary schools in Education Priority Areas with an extra teacher, thus making it possible for the "cycle 3" teachers to occasionally split up the class into groups in order to give special attention to underachieving pupils. This article accounts for the results of an evaluation of the effects of this set of actions on the progression of children in French and maths in "cycle 3". The plan of actions, with the present lay out at least, doesn't seem to meet the set targets : the underachieving children dealt wit…

De la nécessité d'évaluer les pratiques enseignantes : entre enjeux sociaux et obstacles méthodologiques

2003

This article takes a critical look at the assessment of teaching practices. Firstly, it reminds both principles and methodology whereby school is assessed ; secondly, it mentions social and political issues on which those researches have an effect. Unfortunately, teaching practices are not very much known in France, and so is their efficiency. As a result, significative improvements may be done to develop research on education in France.

Weak and Strong Compensation for the Prioritization of Public Investments: Multidimensional Analysis for Pools

2015

Despite the economic crisis still heavily affecting most of Europe, a possible resumption can be found in the revitalization of public and private investments. These investments should be directed not only towards the strategic areas of infrastructures and production, but also to those which allow for a higher level of the quality of life (sports facilities, parks, etc.). In such cases, the need to balance the reasons of financial sustainability with environmental and social profiles is even more evident. Thus, multicriteria techniques, supporting complex assessments, should be implemented together with a monetary feasibility study (cost-benefit analysis). Multidimensional methods allow for…
