Minimalism in radiation synthesis of biomedical functional nanogels.
2012
A scalable, single-step, synthetic approach for the manufacture of biocompatible, functionalized micro- and nanogels is presented. In particular, poly(N-vinyl pyrrolidone)-grafted-(aminopropyl)methacrylamide microgels and nanogels were generated through e-beam irradiation of PVP aqueous solutions in the presence of a primary amino-group-carrying monomer. Particles with different hydrodynamic diameters and surface charge densities were obtained at the variance of the irradiation conditions. Chemical structure was investigated by different spectroscopic techniques. Fluorescent variants were generated through fluorescein isothiocyanate attachment to the primary amino groups grafted to PVP, to …
Synthesis of Novel Folic Acid-Functionalized Biocompatible Block Copolymers by Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization for Gene Delivery and Encapsulati…
2005
Two synthetic routes to folic acid (FA)-functionalized diblock copolymers based on 2-(methacryloyloxy)- ethyl phosphorylcholine [MPC] and either 2-(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate [DMA] or 2-(diisopropylamino) ethyl methacrylate [DPA] were explored. The most successful route involved atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of MPC followed by the tertiary amine methacrylate using a 9-fluorenylmethyl chloroformate (Fmoc)-protected ATRP initiator. Deprotection of the Fmoc groups produced terminal primary amine groups, which were conjugated with FA to produce two series of novel FA-functionalized biocompatible block copolymers. Nonfunctionalized MPC-DMA diblock copolymers have been previou…
Synthesis of Maleimide-Functionalyzed HPMA-Copolymers and in vitro Characterization of the aRAGE- and Human Immunoglobulin (huIgG)-Polymer Conjugates
2012
Herein the synthesis of antibody–polymer conjugates, with a quite narrow dispersity based on the polymer HPMA, are reported. These conjugates are synthesized by coupling antibodies to maleimide-functionalized poly(N-(2-hydroxypropyl)-methacrylamide) (poly-HPMA) copolymers derived through reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization of pentafluorophenyl methacrylate via the intermediate step of an activated ester polymer. We develop a protocol that allows the attachment of two different model antibodies, monoclonal anti-RAGE (receptor for advanced glycation end-products) antibody, and polyclonal human immunoglobulin (huIgG). Modification of the antibody and conjugat…
Is the host or the parasite the most locally adapted in an amphipod–acanthocephalan relationship? A case study in a biological invasion context
2007
8 pages; International audience; Manipulative endoparasites with complex life cycles can alter their intermediate host immunity and behaviour in ways that increase survival probability within the host body cavity and enhance successful transmission to the definitive host. These parasitic manipulations are variable among and within parasite species and may result from co-evolutionary processes, in which the parasite is constrained for adaptation to the local intermediate host. Hence, arrival of a new host species in a local host population may promote local parasite maladaptation. This study tested the occurrence of local adaptation in two distantly located populations of the acanthocephalan…

Synthèse in situ de fluorophores organiques : formation de liaisons covalentes par déclenchement enzymatique et applications en biodétection
2017
Fluorescence imaging is a growing field of biology over the past decades. Intensive works mainly focused on instrumental developments and chemistry of contrast agents (probes), were already done to improve such bioanalytical technique. The main goal of this Ph. D. thesis was to explore various fluorogenic molecular platforms responsive to various (bio)chemical stimuli and capable of releasing organic fluorophores in the biological medium to analyze. This approach named "in-situsynthesis" is based on domino reactions belonging to the repertoire of "covalent chemistry", triggered by the target (bio)analyte. This kind of process should provide advanced fluorogenic probes with high signal-to-no…
Pneumococcal conjugate vaccines: proceedings from an Interactive Symposium at the 41st Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemothera…
2003
Globally, Streptococcus pneumoniae is a leading cause of invasive and noninvasive disease in infants and young children. The emergence of antibiotic-resistant strains has increased interest in prevention through immunization. Currently, the only available conjugate pneumococcal vaccine is a seven-valent formulation, PNCRM7. This paper presents excerpts from a symposium that provided an update of ongoing surveillance data and clinical trials evaluating pneumococcal conjugate vaccines. The topics addressed included: (1) PNCRM7 postmarketing safety data; (2) the impact of PNCRM7 in premature infants; (3) the direct and indirect effect of pneumococcal conjugate vaccines on colonization; (4) the…
Design of MOS Current Mode Logic Gates – Computing the Limits of Voltage Swing and Bias Current
2005
Minimizing a quality metric for an MCML gate, such as power-delay product or energy-delay product, requires solving a system of nonlinear equations subject to constraints on both bias current and voltage swing. In this paper, we will show that the limits of the swing and the bias current are affected by the constraints on maximum area and maximum delay. Moreover, methods for computing such limits are presented.
Minimum power-delay product design of MCML gates
2008
This paper describes a methodology for the minimization of the power-delay product of MCML gates. The method is based on the novel concept of crossing point capacitance. The methodology was been validated by designing several gates using in an IBM 130 nm CMOS process.
A predictive function optimization algorithm for multi-spectral skin lesion assessment
2015
The newly introduced Kubelka-Munk Genetic Algorithm (KMGA) is a promising technique used in the assessment of skin lesions. Unfortunately, this method is computationally expensive due to its function inverting process. In the work of this paper, we design a Predictive Function Optimization Algorithm in order to improve the efficiency of KMGA by speeding up its convergence rate. Using this approach, a High-Convergence-Rate KMGA (HCR-KMGA) is implemented onto multi-core processors and FPGA devices respectively. Furthermore, the implementations are optimized using parallel computing techniques. Intensive experiments demonstrate that HCR-KMGA can effectively accelerate KMGA method, while improv…
