Bidentatoside I, a New Triterpene Saponin from Achyranthes bidentata

Bidentatoside I (1) is a new triterpene saponin bearing an unusual dioxopropionic acid unit, isolated from the roots of Achyranthes bidentata. Structural elucidation was performed mainly by chemical and homo- and heteronuclear 2D NMR techniques. This compound did not show any potentiation of the in vitro cytotoxicity of cisplatin in the HT 29 human colon cancer cell line.

Structure and cytotoxicity of steroidal glycosides from Allium schoenoprasum

Abstract A phytochemical analysis of the whole plant of Allium schoenoprasum , has led to the isolation of four spirostane-type glycosides ( 1 – 4 ), and four known steroidal saponins. Two New Glycosides from Astragalus caprinus

A new glycoside of flavonol (1) and a new glycoside of a cycloartane-type triterpene (2) were isolated from the leaves and the roots of Astragalus caprinus, respectively. Their structures were elucidated in turn by spectroscopic data interpretation as 3-O-[[beta-D-xylopyranosyl(1-->3)-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl(1-->6)][beta-D-apiofuranosyl(1-->2)]]-beta-D-galactopyranosyl kaempferol (1) and 3-O-(beta-D-xylopyranosyl)-24-O-(beta-D-glucopyranosyl)-20,25-epoxycycloartane-3beta,6alpha,16beta,24alpha-tetrol (2).

A hypotensive procyanidin-glycoside from Rhamnus lycioides ssp. lycioides.

A lyophilized hot water extract of the aerial parts of Rhamnus lycioides L. (Rhamnaceae) produced a lowering of systemic arterial blood pressure in normotensive anaesthetized Wistar rats. An activity-guided fractionation of the methanolic extract led to the isolation of a tetrameric procyanidin-glycoside which produced a clear dose-dependent hypotensive response (1.5-6 mg/kg i.v.). This principle was characterized using acid hydrolysis, thiolytic degradation and spectroscopic methods. It consisted of four flavanol units with a 2,3-cis configuration and with a O-beta-d-glucosylpyranoside function on the epicatechin terminal unit. The interflavan linkage was (4-8).

Abstract A newly described plant-derived flavonoid, hypolaetin-8-glucoside, which has anti-inflammatory and gastroprotective actions in-vivo, and its corresponding aglycone, hypolaetin, have been compared with 14 other flavonoids for inhibition of eicosanoid generation via the 5-lipoxygenase and cyclo-oxygenase pathways in elicited rat peritoneal leukocytes stimulated with calcium ionophore. Intratympanic gentamicin therapy has become a popular treatment modality for Meniere's disease (MD) through controlled elimination of vertigo spells caused by the balance organ. However, the known ototoxic properties of aminoglycosides lead to cochlear damage. Serial measurements of transient evoked otoacoustic emissions (TEOAEs) in healthy newborns and in newborns with perinatal infection.

Detection of hearing impairment in early childhood is difficult. We serially recorded transient evoked otoacoustic emissions (TEOAEs) to search for signs of ototoxicity in term, healthy newborns and compared the results to a second group of term babies treated for perinatally acquired bacterial infection with ampicillin plus either cefotaxime or plus aminoglycoside. At initial evaluation, in the group of 45 healthy children born at term, well reproducible emissions were observed in all but two children. Translational read-through-inducing drugs (TRIDs) promote read-through of nonsense mutations, placing them in the spotlight of current gene-based therapeutic research. Here, we compare for the first time the relative efficacies of new-generation aminoglycosides NB30, NB54 and the chemical compound PTC124 on retinal toxicity and read-through efficacy of a nonsense mutation in the USH1C gene, which encodes the scaffold protein harmonin. This mutation causes the human Usher syndrome, the most common form of inherited deaf-blindness.
