Psychological variables underlying political orientations in an old and a new democracy: A comparative study between Sweden and Latvia.
2016
This study examines in detail the psychological variables underlying ideological political orientation, and structure and contents of this orientation, in Sweden and Latvia. Individual political orientation is conceptualized on two dimensions: acceptance vs. rejection of social change and acceptance vs. rejection of inequality. Swedish (N = 320) and Latvian (N = 264) participants completed measures of political orientation, Social Dominance Orientation (SDO), Right Wing Authoritarianism (RWA), self vs. other orientation, tolerance for ambiguity, humanism and normativism, core political values, system justification, as well as moral foundations questionnaire and portrait values questionnaire…
The Source of Righteousness according to The Homilies on the Epistle of St. Paul to Romans of John Chrysostom
2020
Aby jednak człowiek rzeczywiście i skutecznie został przeniesiony w stan sprawiedliwoś…
The erosion of personal norms and cognitive dissonance
2016
ABSTRACTIn this article, we study how personal norms and behaviour interact and evolve when agents try to reduce cognitive dissonance, and how this dynamic relates to Nash equilibrium. We find that in long run, agents play, and norms prescribe, Nash equilibrium in material payoffs (in the absence of norms). Our model captures two main facts: (i) norms erode along the play of the game; (ii) the erosion of norms depends on the set of possible economic choices, so that the policy maker can potentially influence them.

Employee Rhetoric in the Acceptance or Rejection of Corporate Environmentalism
2016
This study explores how employees in a Finnish financial company use rhetorical strategies to accept or reject corporate environmentalism. It is based on a qualitative study in which face-to-face interviews were conducted among 30 employees. The study shows how employees rejected corporate environmentalism by dissociating their employer from polluters or by dissociating environmental values from other values in the financial business. It also shows how they accepted corporate environmentalism by associating it with other business virtues and by associating the employer with polluters. The study identifies rhetorical strategies as a means for employees to construct an understanding of corpor…
Real lattices modelled by the nonlinear Schrödinger equation and its generalizations
2006
We present the analysis of two dimerized lattices : a bi-inductance electrical network with macroscopic wave modes, an antiferromagnetic chain whith microscopic spin waves. Using the multiple scale technique of reductive perturbation we show that the original discrete equations of motion can be reduced to a Nonlinear Schrodinger equation with complex coefficients for the first system and two coupled Nonlinear Schrodinger equations for the second system. The possible solutions of these equations are discussed in relation with our numerical simulations and real experiments.
The time-harmonic Maxwell equations
1996
In this chapter we shall see that the solution of the time-harmonic Maxwell equations with real coefficients can be transformed to time independent partial differential equations with complex coefficients. Then we introduce a finite element approximation proposed in [Křižek, Neittaanmaki, 1989]. A similar technique is analyzed in [Křižek, Neittaanmaki, 1984b], [Monk, 1992a] (for fully time dependent problems see, e.g., [Monk 1992b,c]).
Maxwell’s Equations
2012
The empirical basis of electrodynamics is defined by Faraday’s law of induction, by Gauss’ law, by the law of Biot and Savart and by the Lorentz force and the principle of universal conservation of electric charge. These laws can be tested – confirmed or falsified – in realistic experiments. The integral form of the laws deals with physical objects that are one-dimensional, two-dimensional, or three-dimensional, that is to say, objects such as linear wires, conducting loops, spatial charge distributions, etc. Thus, the integral form depends, to some extent, on the concrete experimental set-up. To unravel the relationships between seemingly different phenomena, one must switch from the integ…
