Metabolism of Linoleic Acid or Mevalonate and 6-Pentyl-α-Pyrone Biosynthesis by Trichoderma Species

1993

The understanding of the biosynthetic pathway of 6-pentyl-α-pyrone in Trichoderma species was achieved by using labelled linoleic acid or mevalonate as a tracer. Incubation of growing cultures of Trichoderma harzianum and T. viride with [U- 14 C]linoleic acid or [5- 14 C]sodium mevalonate revealed that both fungal strains were able to incorporate these labelled compounds (50 and 15%, respectively). Most intracellular radioactivity was found in the neutral lipid fraction. At the initial time of incubation, the radioactivity from [ 14 C]linoleic acid was incorporated into 6-pentyl-α-pyrone more rapidly than that from [ 14 C]mevalonate. No radioactivity incorporation was detected in 6-pentyl-…

Isomerization of 9c11t/10t12c CLA in Triacylglycerols

2010

Published version of an article in the journal: Lipids . The original publication is available at Spingerlink. http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s11745-010-3452-x Isomers of conjugated linoleic acid from 7t9c through 12t14t can be induced by thermal treatment of triacylglycerol samples of 9c11t or 10t12c fatty acids in glass tubes. The formation of conjugated linoleic acids (CLAs) has been observed during thermal induction of the above-mentioned triacylglycerols at 250, 280 and 320A degrees C. The concentrations of isomers formed in the mixture varied depending on the temperature and duration of the heating experiments. The objective of this study was to find a suitable thermal induction temperatur…

Synthesis of Optically Active N-(4-Hydroxynon-2-enyl)pyrrolidines: Key Building Blocks in the Total Synthesis of Streptomyces coelicolor Butanolide 5…

2021

AbstractStarting from 5-methylhexanal and (S)-configured N-propargylprolinol ethers, coupling delivered N-(4-hydroxynon-2-ynyl)prolinol derivatives as mixtures of C4 diastereomers. Resolution of the epimers succeeded after introduction of an (R)-mandelic ester derivative and subsequent HPLC separation. Alternatively, suitable oxidation gave the corresponding alkynyl ketone. Midland reagent controlled diastereoselective reduction afforded a defined configured propargyl alcohol with high selectivity. LiAlH4 reduction and Mosher analyses of the allyl alcohols enabled structure elucidation. The suitably protected products are used as key intermediates in enantioselective Streptomyces γ-butyrola…

Effect of ewe feeding system (grass v. concentrate) on intramuscular fatty acids of lambs raised exclusively on maternal milk

2005

AbstractTwenty pregnant Comisana ewes were divided into two groups of 10. One group was allowed to graze a vetch pasture (grass). The second group of animals was housed collectively in a pen and was given hay and concentrates (concentrate). After lambing, all the ewes were allowed to stay with the respective lambs between 18:00 h and 07:00 h of the following day in two different pens. Therefore all the lambs were raised exclusively on maternal milk. The lambs were slaughtered at 38 days of age. Milk and lamb meat (longissimus dorsi muscle) fatty acids were analysed. Ewes on grass produced milk with a lower (P< 0·001) proportion of saturated fatty acids and with a higher proportion of bot…

Halloysite nanotubes as polyolefin fillers

2015

Intestinal conversion of linoleic acid to arachidonic acid in the rat

1993

Abstract The arachidonic acid (C20:4, n-6) appearing in intestinal lymph during linoleic acid (C18:2, n-6) absorption may originate from enterocyte synthesis or from the liver either after secretion in biliary phospholipids at the same time dietary linoleic acid absorption occurs or via plasma. The radioactivity measured in the total bile collected during the 6 hours of linoleic acid absorption is too small to explain hepatic origin of the C20:4 detected by high performance liquid chromatography analysis of labeled fatty acids recovered in the lymph, in the intestinal mucosa, and the intestinal wall at the peak of linoleic acid intestinal absorption. This study confirms the probability that…

Total lipids content and fatty acid composition of seed oils from six pomegranate cultivars

1995

The fatty acid composition of the seed oils of six pomegranate (Punica granatum L) cultivars was qualitatively and quantitatively determined by gas chromatography. The seeds contained oil in the range 51-152 mg kg -1 dry matter. Intervarietal differences in fatty acid composition were demonstrated (fatty acid esters as % (w/w) total fatty acid esters. Sour varieties had the highest while sour-sweet varieties had the lowest oil content. Eleven fatty acids were identified. In all varieties, the predominant fatty acids were linoleic (25.2-38.6%) and oleic acid (24.8-35.5%) followed by palmitic (18.2-22.6%), stearic (6.9-10.4%) and linolenic acid (0.6-9.9%). To a lesser extent arachidic (1.1-3.…

EFFECTS OF DIETARY 18:3 N-3 TRANS ISOMERS ON THE ?6 DESATURATION OF ?-LINOLENIC ACID

1995

Trans isomers of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) are formed during heat treatment of oils. In the present work, the effect of dietary geometrical isomers of α-linolenic acid (18:3 n-3) on the Δ6 desaturation of all cis 18:3 n-3 was investigated, using rat liver microsomes. The desaturation rates were higher in microsomes from animals fed a cis n-3 deficient diet, as compared to those from the control group or those from rats fed 18:3 n-3 and its trans isomers. These data and the incorporation of long chain trans PUFA in microsomal lipids suggest that geometrical isomers of 18:3 n-3 are probably slowly desaturated and elongated into long chain trans polyunsaturated fatty acids compared to…
