The fragmentation under electron impact of thirteen 2-substituted-3-(5-isoxazolyl)-4(3H)-quinazolinones has been investigated with the aid of metastable ion detection and high resolution measurements. Molecular ions are always abundant and the main primary fragmentation route involves acetonitrile elimination through isoxazole ring opening. The other common processes, particularly those leading to the abundant [R-C8H4N2]+ ion (b or b'), as well as those due to the nature of the 2-substituent are reported and discussed.

A series of original spiropyrrolizidine derivatives has been prepared by a one-pot three-component [3 + 2] cycloaddition reaction of (E)-3-arylidene-1-phenyl-pyrrolidine-2,5-diones, l-proline, and the cyclic ketones 1H-indole-2,3-dione (isatin), indenoquinoxaline-11-one and acenaphthenequinone. We disclose an unprecedented isomerization of some spiroadducts leading to a new family of spirooxindolepyrrolizidines. Furthermore, these cycloadducts underwent retro-1,3-dipolar cycloaddition yielding unexpected regioisomers. Acid catalyzed decomposition of the azido derivatives 4a-c gave rise to amino-hydroxy-phenylpyrroles of type 7 and 8 upon hydrolysis of the intermediate aryl nitrenium ions, together with the hydrogen abstraction compounds of type 3. The aminopyrrolo[1,2-f]phenanthridines 10, 11, and 12 were obtained by treatment with TFMSA of the azide 4d in which the ring being attacked was made more nucleophilic by the introduction of the methoxy group.
Synthesis of trifluoromethylated 2-benzoyl- and 2-aminoimidazoles from ring rearrangement of 1,2,4-oxadiazole derivatives

Abstract Fluoroalkylated 2-ylamino-imidazoles have been synthesized by reaction of 3-amino-5-phenyl-1,2,4-oxadiazole with fluorinated β-dicarbonyl compounds and subsequent base-induced Boulton–Katritzky Rearrangement (BKR) of the isolated β-enaminocarbonyl intermediate. Alternatively, one-pot reactions performed in the presence of Montmorillonite K10 favoured the condensation at the 3-amino moiety of the oxadiazole and, in some cases, allowed the direct synthesis of 2-benzoylamino-imidazoles. Hydrolysis of 2-benzoylamino-imidazoles easily yielded fluorinated 2-amino-imidazoles targets.

Cyclocondensation of 6-acetyl-4,7-dihydro-5-methyl-7-phenyl[1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine with hydroxylamine and hydrazine

The cyclocondensation of 6-acetyl-4,7-dihydro-5-methyl-7-phenyl[1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine (3) with hydroxylamine or hydrazine leads to 3a,4,9,9a-tetrahydro-3,9a-dimethyl-4-phenylisoxazolo-[5,4-d][1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine (4a) and 3a,4,9,9a-tetrahydro-3,9a-dimethyl-4-phenyl-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-d][1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine (4b), respectively. In the presence of methanolic hydrogen chloride, 4b undergoes a cleavage of the pyrimidine ring to yield (5-amino-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)(3,5-dimethylpyrazol-4-yl)phenylmethane (5). The structure determination of the compounds obtained is based on 1H and 13C nmr spectra including NOE measurements.

Fluorescent chemosensors based on cyclohexane: selective sensing of succinate and malonate versus their longer or shorter homologues

The sensing properties towards aliphatic α,ω-dicarboxylates of five cyclohexane-based ligands are described. The studied ligands have been designed following the binding site-signalling unit approach and they all possess thiourea groups as recognition moieties. Ligands 1 and 3 containing naphthalene units can be used as fluorescent sensors as they form intra- or intermolecular excimers in the presence of appropriate dicarboxylates. Selective sensing of succinate and malonate versus their longer or shorter homologues has been observed.
4-[3-(4-Fluorophenyl)-5-isopropylisoxazol-4-yl]pyridine

The molecular structure of the title compound, C17H15FN2O, was determined in the course of our studies on mitogen-activated protein kinase inhibitors. The exocyclic bond angles at the carbon atoms of the isoxazole ring bearing the pyridyl and 4-fluorophenyl rings are 130.0 (2) and 129.2 (2)°, respectively. The pyridine and 4-fluorophenyl rings are twisted relative to the isoxazole ring by 80.2 (2) and 19.1 (1)°, respectively.
