The CoSMOS (Campaign for validating the Operation of the Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity mission) campaign was conducted during November of 2005 in the Goulburn River Catchment, in SE Australia. The main objective of CoSMOS was to obtain a series of L-band measurements from the air in order to validate the L-band emission model that will be used by the SMOS (Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity) ground segment processor. In addition, the campaign was designed to investigate open questions including the Sun-glint effect over land, the application of polarimetric measurements over land, and to clarify the importance of dew and interception for soil moisture retrievals. Colorectal cancer is one of the most frequent cancers in the world and between 50% and 60% of patients will develop colorectal liver metastases (CRLM) during the disease. There have been great improvements in the management of CRLM during the last decades. An effective negative pressure cavitation-microwave assisted extraction for determination of phenolic compounds in P. calliantha H. Andr.

A novel negative pressure and microwave assisted extraction technique (NMAE) was first proposed and applied for extraction of phenolic compounds from pyrola. [C₄MIM]BF₄ aqueous solution was selected as extraction solvent. Optimal extraction conditions were microwave power 700 W, negative pressure -0.07 MPa, temperature 40 °C, liquid-solid ratio 20 : 1, ionic liquid (IL) concentration 0.5 M, extraction time 15 min. The predominance of NMAE was investigated by comparing with microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) and negative pressure cavitation extraction (NPCE) using a first-order kinetics equation. Abstract New compounds able to counteract staphylococcal biofilm formation are needed. In this study we investigate the mechanism of action of pyrrolomycins, whose potential as antimicrobial agents has been demonstrated. We performed a new efficient and easy method to use microwave organic synthesis suitable for obtaining pyrrolomycins in good yields and in suitable amount for their in vitro in-depth investigation. A confirmatory and rapid procedure has been developed for the determination of 30 currently used pesticides (CUP) in fine airborne particulate matter (PM 2.5) at trace level. The proposed method includes extraction of PM 2.5-bound pesticides by microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) followed by a direct injection into LC-MS/MS. The main parameters affecting the MAE extraction (time, temperature and volume of solvent) were optimised using statistical design of experiments (DoE). The matrix effect was also evaluated. Graphene Field-Effect Transistors Employing Different Thin Oxide Films: A Comparative Study

In this work, we report on a comparison among graphene field-effect transistors (GFETs) employing different dielectrics as gate layers to evaluate their microwave response. In particular, aluminum oxide (Al$_{2}$O$_{3}$), titanium oxide (TiO$_{2}$), and hafnium oxide (HfO$_{2}$) have been tested. GFETs have been fabricated on a single chip and a statistical analysis has been performed on a set of 24 devices for each type of oxide. Direct current and microwave measurements have been carried out on such GFETs and short circuit current gain and maximum available gain have been chosen as quality factors to evaluate their microwave performance. Microwave (MW) assisted synthesis and solid state structural characterizations of novel lithocholyl amides of 2-, 3-, and 4-aminopyridine are reported. It is shown that the MW technique is a proper method in the preparation of N-lithocholyl amides of isomeric aminopyridines. It offers many advantages compared to conventional heating.
