ChemInform Abstract: Palladium-Catalyzed Dehydrogenative β′-Functionalization of β-Keto Esters with Indoles at Room Temperature.

2012

The dehydrogenative β′-functionalization of α-substituted β-keto esters with indoles proceeds with high regioselectivities (C3-selective for the indole partner and β′-selective for the β-keto ester) and good yields under mild palladium catalysis at room temperature with a variety of oxidants. Two possible mechanisms involving either late or early involvement of indole are presented.

ChemInform Abstract: Palladium-Catalyzed Domino C-H/N-H Functionalization: An Efficient Approach to Nitrogen-Bridged Heteroacenes.

2015

Palladium-catalyzed domino CH/NH functionalization for the synthesis of novel nitrogen-bridged thienoacenes and 10H-benzo[4,5]thieno[3,2-b]indole derivatives from dihaloarene is reported. This domino sequence consists of initial CH functionalization of the benzo[b]thiophene moiety, followed by Buchwald–Hartwig coupling. This transformation is also useful for the synthesis of highly π-extended compounds.

Synthesis and in Vitro Evaluation of Biotinylated RG108:  A High Affinity Compound for Studying Binding Interactions with Human DNA Methyltransferases

2006

Small-molecule inhibitors of DNA methyltransferases such as RG108 represent promising candidates for cancer drug development. We report the synthesis and in vitro analysis of a biotinylated RG108 conjugate, 2-(1,3-dioxo-1,3-dihydro-isoindol-2-yl)-3-(5-[3-[5-(2-oxo-hexahydro-thieno[3,4-d]imidazol-4-yl)pentanoylamino]propoxy]-1H-indol-3-yl)propionic acid (bio-RG108), for the evaluation of interactions with DNA methyltransferase enzymes. The structural design of the chemically modified inhibitor was aided by molecular modeling, which suggested the possibility for extensive chemical modifications at the 5-position of the tryptophan moiety in RG108. The inhibitory activity of the corresponding d…

Easy Route to Functionalize Iron Oxide Nanoparticles via Long-Term Stable Thiol Groups

2009

International audience; The functionalization of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIOs) by meso-2,3-dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) was investigated. Under ambient conditions, the thiol groups from DMSA are not stable and do not allow a direct functionalization without storage in stringent conditions or a chemical regeneration of free thiols. In this study, we have developed a protocol based on poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) grafting of SPIO prior to DMSA anchoring. We have observed that PEG helps to increase the stability of thiol groups under ambient conditions. The thiol functionalized SPIOs were stable under physiological pH and ionic strength as determined by Ellman's essay and…

Size and Surface Chemistry Tuning of Silicon Carbide Nanoparticles.

2017

International audience; Chemical transformations on the surface of commercially available 3C-SiC nanoparticles were studied by means of FTIR, XPS, and temperature-programmed desorption mass spectrometry methods. Thermal oxidation of SiC NPs resulted in the formation of a hydroxylated SiO2 surface layer with C3Si–H and CHx groups over the SiO2/SiC interface. Controllable oxidation followed by oxide dissolution in HF or KOH solution allowed the SiC NPs size tuning from 17 to 9 nm. Oxide-free SiC surfaces, terminated by hydroxyls and C3Si–H groups, can be efficiently functionalized by alkenes under thermal or photochemical initiation. Treatment of SiC NPs by HF/HNO3 mixture produces a carbon-e…

Intangibles - enhancing access to cities cultural heritage through interpretation

2013

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to utilise commodification for the conservation and promotion of cultural heritage in cities by developing interpretative strategies, specifically enabling access to intangible cultural heritage through its tangible parts.Design/methodology/approachIn total, three case studies were conducted in the cities of Amsterdam, Genoa and Leipzig, through a workshop cycle with destination and local tourism stakeholders and citizen representatives, to develop interpretative strategies for the cities.FindingsThe paper identifies tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the three cities, and integrates them into stories and outlines the development of an interpret…

Quantifying the Covalent Functionalization of Black Phosphorus

2020

Abstract A straightforward quantification method to consistently determine the overall functionalization degree of covalently modified two‐dimensional (2D) black phosphorus (BP) by Raman spectroscopy has been carried out. Indeed, the successful reductive methylation of the BP lattice using sodium intercalation compounds and exhibiting different functionalization degrees has been demonstrated by 31P‐magic angle spinning (MAS) NMR spectroscopy. Furthermore, the correlation of 31P‐MAS NMR spectroscopy and statistical Raman spectroscopy (SRS) revealed the first method to determine the functionalization degree of BP solely by evaluating the intensities of distinct peaks in the Raman spectra of t…

Eukaryotic snoRNAs: a paradigm for gene expression flexibility.

2009

AbstractSmall nucleolar RNAs (snoRNAs) are one of the most ancient and numerous families of non-protein-coding RNAs (ncRNAs). The main function of snoRNAs – to guide site-specific rRNA modification – is the same in Archaea and all eukaryotic lineages. In contrast, as revealed by recent genomic and RNomic studies, their genomic organization and expression strategies are the most varied. Seemingly snoRNA coding units have adopted, in the course of evolution, all the possible ways of being transcribed, thus providing a unique paradigm of gene expression flexibility. By focusing on representative fungal, plant and animal genomes, we review here all the documented types of snoRNA gene organizati…
