Initiation and progression of atherosclerosis – enzymatic or oxidative modification of low-density lipoprotein?

2006

AbstractAtherosclerosis is widely regarded as a chronic inflammatory disease that develops as a consequence of entrapment of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) in the arterial intima. Native LDL lacks inflammatory properties, so the lipoprotein must undergo biochemical alterations to become atherogenic. Among several other candidates, two different concepts of lipoprotein modification are propagated, the widespread oxidation hypothesis and the less common E-LDL hypothesis, which proposes that modification of LDL occurs through the action of ubiquitous hydrolytic enzymes (enzymatically modified LDL or E-LDL) rather than oxidation. By clearly distinguishing between the initiation and progression o…

Substance P inactivation by transglutaminase in vitro.

1992

Gamma(glutamyl5)spermine derivative of substance P (Spm-SP) was synthesized in vitro in the presence of purified guinea pig liver transglutaminase and Ca2+. The spermine adduct of the neuropeptide was purified by HPLC on a reversed-phase column and characterized by fast atom bombardment mass spectrometry. The biological activities of Spm-SP were tested by assaying, in comparison with substance P, its ability to induce both the contractions of smooth muscle in vitro and the edema formation in vivo. Spm-SP was shown not to elicit contractile responses in the isolated rat stomach strip and duodenum and not to antagonize the spasmogenic effect evoked by the native neuropeptide. Furthermore, Spm…

Structural and functional salivary disorders in type 2 diabetic patients

2006

O funkcji substytucji frazemów w reklamie prasowej

2022

Surface modification of gold nanoparticles and nanoclusters

2016

Gold nanoparticles are used in many beneficial technological applications in biochemistry, medicine and electronics. Among them, monolayer protected gold nanoclusters (MPCs) have received a significant attention in the scientific community due to their well-defined atomic structure, which is important for fundamental studies of nanoparticles properties and their functionalization. These particles, with a precise number of atoms, exhibit size-dependent optical, chemical and electronic properties. The thesis focuses on the structure, preparation, characterization, and properties of MPCs. For multifunctional applications, gold nanoparticles are an ideal class of compounds for surface functiona…

Rational Chemical Multifunctionalization of Graphene Interface Enhances Targeted Cancer Therapy

2020

The synthesis of a drug delivery platform based on graphene was achieved through a step‐by‐step strategy of selective amine deprotection and functionalization. The multifunctional graphene platform, functionalized with indocyanine green, folic acid, and doxorubicin showed an enhanced anticancer activity. The remarkable targeting capacity for cancer cells in combination with the synergistic effect of drug release and photothermal properties prove the great advantage of a combined chemo‐ and phototherapy based on graphene against cancer, opening the doors to future therapeutic applications of this type of material.

Surface modification of poly(ethylene-co-acrylic acid) with amino-functionalized silica nanoparticles

2011

In this work we studied the possibility to achieve a hybrid-surface through the modification, via a facile wet chemical process, of the surface of films of poly(ethylene-co-acrylic acid) (EAA) with amino-modified silica nanoparticles. Films of EAA were preliminarily activated by the introduction of -COCl groups on their surface. Silica nanoparticles were thereafter covalently bound on the polymeric surface as confirmed by FTIR, ATR-FTIR, XPS, NMR and SEM determinations. The nanoparticles formed a multilayer on the film surface and covered almost uniformly the whole film surface. Direct measurements of superficial amino groups by titration allowed us to detect a concentration of about 18 nmo…

Comprehensive analysis of interacting proteins and genome-wide location studies of the Sas3-dependent NuA3 histone acetyltransferase complex

2014

Highlights • We characterise Sas3p and Gcn5p active HAT complexes in WT and deleted TAP-strains. • We confirm that Pdp3p interacts with NuA3, histones and chromatin regulators. • Pdp3p MS-analysis reveals its phosphorylation, ubiquitination and methylation. • Sas3p can substitute Gcn5p in acetylation of histone H3K14 but not of H3K9. • Genome-wide profiling of Sas3p supports its involvement in transcriptional elongation.

Analysis of the apparent nuclear modification in peripheral Pb–Pb collisions at 5.02 TeV

2019

Charged-particle spectra at midrapidity are measured in Pb–Pb collisions at the centre-of-mass energy per nucleon–nucleon pair √sNN = 5.02 TeV and presented in centrality classes ranging from most central (0–5%) to most peripheral (95–100%) collisions. Possible medium effects are quantified using the nuclear modification factor (RAA) by comparing the measured spectra with those from proton–proton collisions, scaled by the number of independent nucleon–nucleon collisions obtained from a Glauber model. At large transverse momenta (8<pT <20GeV/c), the average RAA is found to increase from about 0.15 in 0–5% central to a maximum value of about 0.8 in 75–85% peripheral collisions, beyond which i…
