Identification and cloning of odorant binding proteins from the scarab beetle Phyllopertha diversa.

1999

Abstract Wehave identified, cloned, and characterized two odorant binding proteins from the pale brown chafer, Phyllopertha diversa. One of the proteins (OBP1, 116 amino acids long) showed high amino acid identity (>90%) to two previously identified PBPs from scarab beetles. The second protein (OBP2) showed limited sequence similarity to lepidopteran and dipteran OBPs, but contained only 133 amino acids. Both proteins showed the occurrence of six highly conserved cysteines; electrospray mass spectral data suggested they are all bound in three disulfide bonds. During purification, OBP2 separated into several isoforms; N-terminal amino acid sequencing and electrospray ionization mass spectrom…

7E olfactory receptor gene clusters and evolutionary chromosome rearrangements

2005

Olfactory receptor (OR) genes of the 7E subfamily have been duplicated to multiple regions throughout the human genome. Segmental duplications containing 7E OR genes have been associated with both pathological and evolutionary chromosome rearrangements. Many of these breakpoint regions coincide with breaks of chromosomal synteny in the mouse, rat and/or chicken genomes. Collectively, these data suggest that 7E OR-containing regions represent hot spots of genomic instability.

Two species of small-medium size felids, Felis aff. silvestris and Caracal depereti nov. sp., have been identified from the Pliocene karstic locality of Layna (Soria, Spain). Caracal depereti nov. sp. shows close affinities with Caracal issiodorensis, species that has been traditionally classified in the genus Lynx. This new interpretation implies that there are no evidences of lynxes in the Pliocene of Westem Europe, and probably this consideration can be applicable to other Eurasiatic localities where Lynx issiodorensis has been determined.

Longane - La civiltà perduta (Longane - The Lost Civilization)

2012

Some silver coins and a caduceus of the V century B.C. (today exposed in the British Museum, London) certifying the existence of the ancient settlement of Longane, which was connected by Diodorus Siculus and Polybius, at the river Longanos of the plane of Milazzo, the site of the battle between the Syracusans of Gerone II and the Mamertines of Kio (269 B.C.).The research carried out have led to the discovery of a vast area indigenous partially hellenised, having the core placed in the shelter of the ancient river Longano and a territorial distribution (formed by villages, fortified areas and necropoli) which occupied part of the current territories of Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, Castroreale,…

De novo production of six key grape aroma monoterpenes by a geraniol synthase-engineered S. cerevisiae wine strain

2015

[Background] Monoterpenes are important contributors to grape and wine aroma. Moreover, certain monoterpenes have been shown to display health benefits with antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anticancer or hypotensive properties amongst others. The aim of this study was to construct self-aromatizing wine yeasts to overproduce de novo these plant metabolites in wines.

Quantitation of Free and Glycosidically Bound Volatiles in and Effect of Glycosidase Addition on Three Tomato Varieties (Solanum lycopersicumL.)

2007

The volatile fractions of three tomato cultivars (p73, Jorge, and Durinta) were studied in both free and glycosidically bound forms. The possibility of increasing the concentration of free volatile compounds by adding selected glycosidases was also tested. The free volatile fraction (FVF) of tomato juice was directly determined by headspace solid-phase microextraction (SPME). To analyze the glycosidically bound fraction (GBF), tomato juice samples were extracted with C18 cartridges and the resulting glycoside extracts were enzymatically hydrolyzed. The released aglycons were determined by headspace SPME. Of these compounds, six were not previously reported to belong to the tomato GBF. The c…

Hatte Stefan I. von Serbien eine tochter namens Komnene? Zur aktue llen diskussion über die Chomatenos-akten zu Stefan Nemanjic und Seinem bruder Sava

2013

This contribution examines the article ?Stefan Nemanjic i njegov brat Sava u spisima Dimitrija Homatina? by Vlada Stankovic (2012) critically. On the basis of Chomatenos files (nos. 1, 3, 10, 13 and 86), he tried to obtain new details about in what way and with what results political and ecclesiastical communication between Epiros and Serbia took place in the period 1215-1219/20. In the course of this, as this present study shows, he repeatedly reached rash, questionable or untenable conclusions. Also the question raised by him - with a critical intention - about the name of Stefan Nemanjic?s daughter is now once again discussed and finally decided in such a way as this was already done in …

Huomioita aikamme traagisuudesta

2018
