Synthesis and antimicrobial activity of new 3-(1-R-3(5)-methyl-4-nitroso-1H-5(3)-pyrazolyl)-5-methylisoxazoles.
2000
A number of new 3-(1-R-3(5)-methyl-4-nitroso-1H-5(3)-pyrazolyl)-5-methylisoxazoles 6a-g (7b-f) were synthesized and tested for antibacterial and antifungal activity. Some of these compounds displayed antifungal activity at non-cytotoxic concentrations. Derivative 6c was 9 times more potent in vitro than miconazole and 20 times more selective against C. neoformans. 6c was also 8- and 125-fold more potent than amphotericin B and fluconazole, respectively. None of the compounds was active against bacteria. Preliminary structure-activity relationship (SAR) studies showed that the NO group at position 4 of the pyrazole ring is essential for the activity. Lipophilicity of the pyrazole moiety, N-a…
Synthesis and antifungal activity of new N-(1-phenyl-4-carbetoxypyrazol-5-yl)-, N-(indazol-3-yl)- and N-(indazol-5-yl)-2-iodobenzamides
2002
N-(1-Phenyl-4-carbetoxypyrazol-5-yl)-, N-(indazol-3-yl)- and N-(indazol-5-yl)-2-iodobenzamides 6, with a Benodanil-like structure, were synthesized by refluxing in acetic acid the corresponding benzotriazinones 5 with potassium iodide for 1 h in order to study the role on the antifungal activity of the N-substitution with an aromatic heterocyclic system on benzamide moiety. Among the tested iododerivatives, compounds 6d,f,g,h possess interesting activities toward some phytopathogenic fungal strains.

Embryonic neural cell adhesion molecules on human natural killer cells
1989
The neural cell adhesion molecules (NCAM) are surface glycoproteins that were first described in brain tissue. NCAM mediate adhesion in a variety of cell-cell interactions. In the present study we show that the so-called "embryonic" NCAM, i.e., the highly polysialylated forms of these proteins, are expressed on natural killer cells and some CD3+ cells in man. Homotypic binding of NCAM, believed to be of importance for cell-cell adhesion in neural tissues, appears not to be essential for NK cell-mediated killing. Yet, NCAM might be involved in NK cell migration, homing or related functions.
Depletion of alloreactive T cells via CD69: implications on antiviral, antileukemic and immunoregulatory T lymphocytes
2005
Selective depletion of alloreactive T cells from stem-cell allografts should abrogate graft-versus-host disease while preserving beneficial T cell specificities to facilitate engraftment and immune reconstitution. We therefore explored a refined immunomagnetic separation strategy to effectively deplete alloreactive donor lymphocytes expressing the activation antigen CD69 upon stimulation, and examined the retainment of antiviral, antileukemic, and immunoregulatory T cells. In addition to the CD69high T cell fraction, our studies retrieved two T cell subsets based on residual CD69 expression. Whereas, truly CD69(neg) cells were devoid of detectable alloresponses to original stimulators, CD69…
Regression Modeling of the Antioxidant-to-Nephroprotective Relation Shows the Pivotal Role of Oxidative Stress in Cisplatin Nephrotoxicity
2021
The clinical utility of the chemotherapeutic drug cisplatin is significantly limited by its nephrotoxicity, which is characterized by electrolytic disorders, glomerular filtration rate decline, and azotemia. These alterations are consequences of a primary tubulopathy causing injury to proximal and distal epithelial cells, and thus tubular dysfunction. Oxidative stress plays a role in cisplatin nephrotoxicity and cytotoxicity, but its relative contribution to overall toxicity remains unknown. We studied the relation between the degree of oxidative reduction (provided by antioxidant treatment) and the extent of nephrotoxicity amelioration (i.e., nephroprotection) by means of a regression anal…
Synthesis of the new ring system 6,8-dihydro-5H-pyrrolo[3,4-h]quinazoline
2009
Abstract A convenient synthesis of the pyrrolo[3,4- h ]quinazoline ring system is reported. Our synthetic approach consisted of the annelation of a pyrimidine ring to an isoindole moiety using tetrahydroisoindole-4-ones as building blocks. The antiproliferative activity of the new compounds was investigated and one of them showed antitumor activity against all the 59 tested cell lines at micromolar concentrations (1.46–18.4 μM).

( n ‐Bu 2 Sn) 2 O(CO 3 ): An active, robust and recyclable organotin(IV) for the direct synthesis of linear organic carbonates from carbon dioxide an…
2017
Organotin(IV) compounds are known to promote the direct synthesis of organic carbonates from carbon dioxide and alcohols. In the past, structural studies have highlighted that the carbonato moiety is a recurring ligand of tin species collected during CO2 pressurized reactions. In a mimetic approach and in order to achieve an available and recyclable precursor, the title compound (n-Bu2Sn)2O(CO3) (1) was prepared in a single step by reacting commercial di-n-butyltin dichloride with an aqueous solution of sodium carbonate. Compound 1 was characterized using infrared spectroscopy and thermogravimetric and elemental analyses. Multinuclear NMR investigations in solution were also conducted. Comp…
Symbiosis between photoactive nanoparticles and their organic ligands.
2013
Photoactive spherical metal and semiconductor nanoparticles (NPs) are smart systems that exhibit unique properties, such as a high surface-to-volume ratio, a broad absorption spectrum and size-dependent properties. They are capped with a considerable number of ligands required to give rise to stable organic and aqueous NP colloidal solutions. In addition, the ligands can also be used to introduce functionality at the NP periphery. In this case, the NP could act as a 3D-scaffold, which would make a high local concentration of a functional moiety at the NP periphery possible, moreover, the photophysical properties of the NP could be tuned. The combined action of the organic capping and the in…
