THE AVERAGE SIZE AND TEMPERATURE PROFILE OF QUASAR ACCRETION DISKS
2014
We use multi-wavelength microlensing measurements of a sample of 10 image pairs from 8 lensed quasars to study the structure of their accretion disks. By using spectroscopy or narrow band photometry we have been able to remove contamination from the weakly microlensed broad emission lines, extinction and any uncertainties in the large-scale macro magnification of the lens model. We determine a maximum likelihood estimate for the exponent of the size versus wavelength scaling ($r_s\propto \lambda^p$ corresponding to a disk temperature profile of $T\propto r^{-1/p}$) of $p=0.75^{+0.2}_{-0.2}$, and a Bayesian estimate of $p=0.8\pm0.2$, which are significantly smaller than the prediction of thi…
Oral intake of cadmium, cobalt, copper, iron, lead, nickel, manganese and zinc in the university student's diet.
1993
A duplicate diet meal study was carried out with a group of university students living in a hostel, in order to estimate the intake of Zn, Cd, Co, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni and Pb. Zn, Cu, Fe, Mn and Ni were determined by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry and Cd, Co and Pb by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrophotometry after a nitric acid wet digestion procedure. The estimated intake values from the contents of breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks were compared with the values of the Provisional Tolerable Daily Intake (PTDI) in the case of Cd and Pb, Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA) of Co, Fe and Zn and Estimated Safe and Adequate Dietetic Daily Intake (ESADDI) of Cu and Mn. Neithe…
Low temperature optical spectroscopy of low-spin ferric hemeproteins
1996
We report the Soret absorption spectra (500-350 nm) of the cyanomet derivatives of human hemoglobin and horse myoglobin, in the temperature range 300-20 K and in two different solvents (65% v/v glycerol-water or 65% v/v ethylene glycol-water). In order to obtain information on stereodynamic properties of active site of the two hemeproteins, we perform an analysis of the band profiles within the framework of electron-vibrations coupling. This approach enables us to single out the various contributions to the spectral bandwidth, such as those arising from non-radiative decay of the excited electronic state (homogeneous broadening) and from the coupling of the electronic transition i) with hig…
IVIVC for fenofibrate immediate release tablets using solubility and permeability as in vitro predictors for pharmacokinetics.
2010
The goal of this study was to investigate the in vitro-in vivo correlation (IVIVC) for fenofibrate immediate release (IR) tablet formulations based on MeltDose-technique. The in vitro determined drug solubility and permeability data were related to the C(max) values observed from two in vivo human studies. Solubility and permeation studies of fenofibrate were conducted in medium simulating the fasted state conditions in the upper jejunum, containing the surfactant compositions of the six formulations at different concentrations. The behavior of all surfactant compositions was characterized by surface tension, dynamic light scattering, and cryo-TEM. The obtained solubility and permeation dat…
3-Oxo-rhazinilam: A New Indole Alkaloid from Rauvolfia serpentina × Rhazya stricta Hybrid Plant Cell Cultures
2000
A new monoterpenoid indole alkaloid, 3-oxo-rhazinilam (1), was isolated from intergeneric somatic hybrid cell cultures of Rauvolfia serpentina and Rhazya stricta, and the structure was determined by detailed 1D and 2D NMR analysis. It was also proved that 3-oxo-rhazinilam (1) is a natural constituent of the hybrid cells.
Flow injection-spectrophotometric determination of cresol compounds in water by reaction withp-aminophenol
1993
A spectrophotometric method has been developed for the simultaneous determination ofo-cresol andm-cresol in water by reaction withp-aminophenol (PAP). Three different methodologies have been assayed; (i) batch analysis, after reaction in an alkaline medium in the presence of dissolved molecular oxygen as oxidizing agent, (ii) a stopped-flow procedure, carried out in the presence of KIO4 and (iii) a flow injection method based on the same approach. The batch procedure requires 22 min for the full development of colour witho-cresol and 12 min form-cresol. In the stopped-flow mode, using KIO4 and a reaction time of 12 min, better sensitivity can be obtained for both compounds and limits of det…
Clarification of the oxidation state of cobalt corroles inheterogeneous and homogeneous catalytic reduction of dioxygen
2008
Co(III) corroles were investigated as efficient catalysts for the reduction of dioxygen in the presence of perchloric acid in both heterogeneous and homogeneous systems. The investigated compounds are (5,10,15-tris(pentafluorophenyl)corrole)cobalt (TPFCor)Co, (10-pentafluorophenyl-5,15-dimesitylcorrole)cobalt (F 5PhMes 2Cor)Co, and (5,10,15-trismesitylcorrole)cobalt (Mes 3Cor)Co, all of which contain bulky substituents at the three meso positions of the corrole macrocycle. Cyclic voltammetry and rotating ring-disk electrode voltammetry were used to examine the catalytic activity of the compounds when adsorbed on the surface of a graphite electrode in the presence of 1.0 M perchloric acid, a…
Extractive Spectrophotometric Determination of Ondansetron by Ion-Pair Formation with Bromocresol Green
1996
Abstract An empirical spectrophotometric procedure for the determination of the antiemetic ondansetron is carried out. The method is based on the formation of a 1:1 ion pair with bromocresol green in the pH range over 3.2 – 4.4, extraction into chloroform layer and spectrophotometric measurement at 420.8 nm. The calibration graph is linear over the range 0.1 – 20 μg ml−1 ondansetron, with a relative standard deviation of 2.7%; the influence of foreign substances is also studied. The method is applied to ondansetron determination in human urine.
Ruthenium red staining of polyanion containing structures in sections from epoxy-resin embedded tissues
1984
Summary Staining by ruthenium red (0.5 mg/ml in borate buffer at pH = 9.2) has been used for light and electron microscopic visualization of polyanion containing structures in sections from glutaraldehyde-fixed, epoxy-embedded tissues. This staining technique can be applied in a simple and rapid way, showing the reactive cell components with suitable resolution and contrast. Preliminary spectrophotometric studies show the correspondence in absorption characteristics of the dye which is bound to polyanions in situ or in vitro .
Discriminating octahedral transition metal ions: highly selective tripodal tris-(2,2′-bipyridine) functionalized piperazine cyclophane receptor for C…
2011
New tripodal transition metal ion receptors, tris(5-ethoxycarbonyl-2,2'-bipyridine) and tris(5-carboxylate-2,2'-bipyridine) substituted 27-membered trimeric piperazine cyclophanes 5 and 7 as well as tetra(5-ethoxycarbonyl-2,2'-bipyridine) substituted 36-membered tetrameric piperazine cyclophane 6, have been prepared and their transition metal ion complexing properties studied in solution by UV-vis spectroscopy and in the solid state by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The crystal structures of [H(3)5(3+)·Fe(2+)]·4(ClO(4)(-))·CF(3)COO(-) (V), [H(3)7(2+)·Fe(2+)]·2(SO(4)(2-)) (VII) and the reference complex [tris(5,5'-bis(ethoxycarbonyl)-2,2'-bipyridine)Fe(II) perchlorate] (I) showed that the…
