A new perspective of innovation toward a non-contact society - Amazon's initiative in pioneering growing seamless switching
2022
This paper elucidates the inside of the black box of Amazon's unique research and development (R&D) dynamism that made it the world's top R&D leader by transforming “routine or periodic alterations” into “significant improvement” during the R&D process. This dynamism also succeeded in transforming the COVID-19 pandemic period into a springboard for new innovation, leading to Amazon's notable growth notwithstanding the pandemic. An empirical analysis using a techno-economic approach focusing on Amazon's endeavor to develop a series of advanced digital fashions (ADFs) and online-based luxury brands (neo-luxury) before and during the COVID-19 pandemic was conducted. Amazon became a global appa…
Codeswitching in the comedy of George Lopez
2011
This paper explores the intersectionality of language, culture and identity in the performance of a U.S.-born bilingual Spanish-English speaking comedian, George Lopez. Codeswitches in his comedy are examined through the speaker’s relationship to the audience using Bell’s (1984) theory of audience design. Two specific performances with two distinct audiences are compared using the following questions: How does a bilingual comedian, Lopez, use language mixing to underscore his Latino identity? How does he construct his audience through his choice of codes? How and when does he accommodate monolingual English speaking audiences? I conclude that Lopez intentionally matches his code choice to c…
Evaluating currency crises: the case of the European monetary system
2007
In this paper we examine the nature of currency crises. We ascertain whether the currency crises of the European Monetary System (EMS) were based either on fundamentals, or on self-fulfilling market expectations driven by extrinsic uncertainty. In particular, we extend previous work of Jeanne and Masson (J Int Econ 50:327–350, 2000) regarding the evaluation of currency crisis. We contribute to the existing literature proposing the use of Markov regime-switching with time-varying transition probability model. Our empirical results suggest that the currency crises of the EMS were not due only to market expectations driven by external uncertainty, or ‘sunspots’, but also to fundamental variabl…
Experimental investigations of local stochastic resistive switching in yttria stabilized zirconia film on a conductive substrate
2020
We report on the results of the experimental investigations of the local resistive switching (RS) in the contact of a conductive atomic force microscope (CAFM) probe to a nanometer-thick yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) film on a conductive substrate under a Gaussian noise voltage applied between the probe and the substrate. The virtual memristor was found to switch randomly between the low resistance state and the high resistance state as a random telegraph signal (RTS). The potential profile of the virtual memristor calculated from its response to the Gaussian white noise shows two local minima, which is peculiar of a bistable nonlinear system.
Noise-induced resistive switching in a memristor based on ZrO2(Y)/Ta2O5 stack
2019
Resistive switching (RS) is studied in a memristor based on a ZrO2(Y)/Ta2O5 stack under a white Gaussian noise voltage signal. We have found that the memristor switches between the low resistance state and the high resistance state in a random telegraphic signal (RTS) mode. The effective potential profile of the memristor shows from two to three local minima and depends on the input noise parameters and the memristor operation. These observations indicate the multiplicative character of the noise on the dynamical behavior of the memristor, that is the noise perceived by the memristor depends on the state of the system and its electrical properties are influenced by the noise signal. The det…
Stochastic model of memristor based on the length of conductive region
2021
Abstract We propose a stochastic model of a voltage controlled bipolar memristive system, which includes the properties of widely used dynamic SPICE models and takes into account the fluctuations inherent in memristors. The proposed model is described by rather simple equations of Brownian diffusion, does not require significant computational resources for numerical modeling, and allows obtaining the exact analytical solutions in some cases. The noise-induced transient bimodality phenomenon, arising under resistive switching, was revealed and investigated theoretically and experimentally in a memristive system, by finding a quite good qualitatively agreement between theory and experiment. B…
Assessment of MOSFET switching losses in an LLC converter by a calorimetric method
2023
The present work aims to implement a calorimetric method to measure the power dissipated during MOSFET switching in a high efficiency LLC resonant converter. The power dissipated from switching can significantly impact the total power dissipated by the device and consequent efficiency, so correct quantification is fundamental for optimizing the devices and increasing the efficiency of the converters. In LLC converters, this type of dissipated power cannot be measured with standard methods such as measurement with oscilloscopes as some of the energy that is recovered and not dissipated. The calorimetric method requires reasonably accurate measurement of thermal resistance and the temperature…
Cooperative Thermal and Optical Switching of Spin States in a New Two-Dimensional Coordination Polymer
2003
{Fe(pmd)2[Cu(CN)2]2} (pmd = pyrimidine) displays a rigid two-dimensional structure and undergoes thermal- and optical-driven spin crossover behaviour; cooperative elastic coupling between iron(II) ions in the framework induces thermal hysteresis in the HS↔LS conversion and sigmoidal HS→LS relaxation of the photo-induced HS state at low temperatures.
