Metal ion affinity-based biomolecular recognition and conjugation inside synthetic polymer nanopores modified with iron-terpyridine complexes.

Here we demonstrate a novel biosensing platform for the detection of lactoferrin (LFN) via metal-organic frameworks, in which the metal ions have accessible free coordination sites for binding, inside the single conical nanopores fabricated in polymeric membrane. First, monolayer of amine-terminated terpyridine (metal-chelating ligand) is covalently immobilized on the inner walls of the nanopore via carbodiimide coupling chemistry. Second, iron-terpyridine (iron-terPy) complexes are obtained by treating the terpyridine modified-nanopores with ferrous sulfate solution. Red-light-emitting electrochemical cell using a polypyridyl iridium(III) polymer.

A deep-red phosphorescent ionic iridium(III) complex is prepared and incorporated into a polymer. Both the complex (1) and the polymer (2) were used as the single active material in solid-state light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs). The devices built up using 1 and 2 emit in the deep-red region of the visible spectrum with CIE coordinates x = 0.710; y = 0.283 and x = 0.691; y = 0.289, respectively, making them one of the deepest-red emitting LECs reported. It is the first example of a polymeric LEC incorporating an ionic iridium complex, which exhibits increased stabilities compared with the device based on the small molecular weight complex.

A novel one-pot tandem asymmetric Hantzsch-type process has been employed to generate fluorinated 1,4-dihydropyridines (1,4-DHPs) as single diastereoisomers. It involves the condensation of (R)-(+)-allyl p-tolyl sulfoxide, fluorinated nitriles, and alkyl propiolates, giving access to a new family of enantiomerically pure fluorine-containing 1,4-DHPs.
d-Glucose as a multivalent chiral scaffold for combinatorial chemistry

Due to their high density of functional groups and their availability in a variety of diastereomeric forms, monosaccharides are considered attractive scaffolds for combinatorial chemistry that allow the attachment and defined spatial alignment of up to five different pharmacophoric groups. For their application in combinatorial syntheses on solid phase, a set of selectively removable hydroxy protecting groups in combination with a cleavable anchor is required. Herein, we report on the construction and use of a versatile multivalent glucose building block for parallel synthesis on the solid phase.
Modular Approach to 9-Monosubstituted Fluorene Derivatives Using Mo(V) Reagents.

Oxidative coupling using molybdenum(V) reagents provides fast access to highly functionalized 9-monosubstituted fluorenes. This synthetic approach is highly modular, is high yielding, and tolerates a variety of labile moieties, e.g. amides or iodo groups. The established protocol leads to promising precursors for pharmacologically important analogues of melatonin.

Effects of the organic calcium antagonists verapamil and flunarizine on pentylenetetrazol induced paroxysmal depolarizations were tested in organotypic neocortical explants taken from neonatal rats. In these in vitro experiments the papaverin derivative verapamil depressed, and finally abolished, epileptic discharges in all cases. The piperazine derivative flunarizine, however, which is known to suppress epileptic discharges in hippocampal CA3 neurons (Bingmann and Speckmann 1986), showed no significant antiepileptic effects in the explanted neocortical neurons. The present study investigated the thoughts and emotions of swimmers and what techniques they used to manage them before and during their best and worst performances. Twelve male Brazilian swimmers (5 Olympic and 7 Paralympic) took part of the study. They were 22 to 37 years old (M = 26.16, SD = 4.32). Three athletes (25%) were middle distance swimmers in freestyle, and the other nine (75%) were sprinters in all four swimming styles.
