A review on the phytopharmacological studies of the genus Polygala

2020

Abstract Ethnopharmacological relevance The genus Polygala, the most representative genus of the Polygalaceae family, comprises more than 600 species from all over the world of which around 40 are distributed in China, some of them, being used in the Traditional Chinese Medicine system. Aim of the review We intend to discuss the current knowledge about the traditional uses, and the newest phytochemical and pharmacological achievements with tentative elucidation of the mechanism of action on the genus Polygala covering the period 2013–2019 to provide a scientific support to the traditional uses, and to critically analyze the reported studies to obtain new insights for further researches. Olej w obrzędach inicjacji chrześcijańskiej w syro-orientalnej tradycji liturgicznej

2021

Olej należy do najważniejszych elementów naturalnych, jakie weszły do liturgii Kościoła. Chociaż używa się go w różnych obrzędach sakramentalnych i pozasakramentalnych, to jednak najbogatszą wymowę teologiczną zyskał w obrzędach chrześcijańskiej inicjacji. Niniejsze studium stanowi refleksję nad rolą i znaczeniem oleju w liturgii chrzcielnej w tradycji syro-orientalnej.

Chemical composition and anticancer activity of essential oils of Mediterranean sage (Salvia officinalis L.) grown in different environmental conditi…

2013

Salvia officinalis L. can be found worldwide and its leaves are commonly used as ingredient in food industry. Sage essential oil is applied in the treatment of a range of diseases and has been shown to possess different biological activities. The objectives of our research were to study the effects of environment on crop, chemical composition and anticancer activity on S. officinalis essential oil. Sage was cultivated at eighteen experimental sites in south-central Italy (Molise) in different growing environments. The essential oils (S1-S18), extracted by hydrodistillation, were analyzed by GC and CG/MS. Results show that the main components were α-thujone, camphor, borneol, γ-muurolene and…

Chemical Constituents ofGynura cusimbuaAerial Parts

2007

Abstract The essential oil isolated from the aerial parts of Gynura cusimbua was analyzed by GC and GC/MS. Forty-seven constituents totaling 91.92% of the oil were identified. The major constituents of the oil are myrcene (31.0%), β- phellandrene (12.43%), eugenol (6.34%), α-humulene (6.20%), dodecyl acrylate (6.09%), α-copaene (5.61%), phytol (3.21%), germacrene D (3.0%), cryptone (2.04%), 2,4-ditertbutylphenol (1.62%), α-pinene (1.33%), α-cadinene (1.26%), caryophyllene oxide (1.24%) and β-caryophyllene (1.08%).

Essential oil analysis ofTeucrium libanitisandT. turredanumby GC and GC-MS

2003

The chemical composition of the six essential oils obtained from Teucrium libanitis and Teucrium turredanum collected at different localities was analysed by GC and GC–MS. Fifty-three constituents were identified. The oil of T. libanitis is characterized by the monoterpene α-pinene (9.9–21.2%) and the sesquiterpene δ-cadinene (5.3–9.7%), while that of T. turredanum had a higher content of sesquiterpenoids: β-caryophyllene (15.6–32.6%), α-humulene (4.7–10.1%) and β-bisabolol (6.4–8.3%), and a lower percentage of monoterpenoids (<1%). A multivariate procedure (hierarchical clustering) for detecting natural grouping established that T. libanitis and T. turredanum constitute two independent taxa…

Review & meta-analysis: isopropanolic black cohosh extract iCR for menopausal symptoms - an update on the evidence

2020

A systematic literature search revealed 35 clinical studies and one meta-analysis comprising 43,759 women, of which 13,096 were treated with isopropanolic Cimicifuga racemosa extract (iCR). Compared to placebo, iCR was significantly superior for treating neurovegetative and psychological menopausal symptoms, with a standardized mean difference of 0.694 in favor of iCR (p<0.0001). Effect sizes were larger when higher dosages of iCR as monotherapy or in combination with St. John's wort (Hypericum perforatum [HP]) were given ( 1.020 and 0.999, respectively), suggesting a dose-depend- ency. For psychological symptoms, the iCRþHP combination was superior to iCR monotherapy. Efficacy of iCR was c…

Antiproliferative activity of hexane extract from Tunisian Cistus libanotis, Cistus monspeliensis and Cistus villosus

2013

Abstract Background As a part of our investigation on Tunisian medicinal plants, we have carried out a phytochemical investigation of the hexane extracts from leaves of Cistus libanotis, C. villosus and C. monspeliensis, evualuating also their possible antiproliferative activity in vitro. Results The major compounds of hexane extracts were identified and quantified by GC-MS. The composition of the three species, although belonging to the same genus, is completely different. The antiproliferative activity was evaluated against murine monocyte/macrophages (J774.A1), human melanoma cells (A-375), and human breast cancer cells (MCF-7), showing major activity against the human melanoma cell line…

The beautiful Yvonne of Louisiana. La bella Yvonne della Louisiana

2019

To understand New Orleans, it is necessary to look at her geographically: wedged on the majestic delta of the powerful Mississippi. Like any other city sitting on river deltas, her relationship with water is not linear (longitudinal as in coastal cities, transversal as in fluvial cities); rather it is complex and deep. Water appears where you least expect it, sweet and salty at the same time like her food, precious and painful like her story, with a beginning and end like her parades.

XII (e …
