Abstract The article shows a metaphoric portrayal of the Silesia region. The author analyses metaphors which are being used to describe and characterize this region, namely Silesia as a bridge, a boundary stone, a pear tree, a smaragd and other figures. The analysis shows that the metaphors express the multicultural character of Silesia. They are predominantly very positive assessed. Furthermore, the author analyses metaphors which are being used to characterize the inhabitants of Silesia. The analysis shows that this metaphors express a positive as well as a critical perception of this population.

In comparison to other Polish regional cuisines, Silesian cuisine is complex and distinguished by the influence of other culinary cultures (mainly German, Austrian and Czech), which have made it so rich and include dishes not found anywhere else. The article is a contribution to the biography of the Catholic clergyman, parish priest in the parish of Łubniany located in Upper Silesia – the Rev. Franciszek Pogrzeba. He was one of the fourteen priests who signed the so-called “Appeal to Priests”, in compliance with which they broke off their cooperation with the Catholic German Center Party (Deutsche Zentrumspartei) and supported the Deputies of the “Polish Circle” in the German Parliament. After World War 1, the Rev. Pogrzeba actively engaged for incorporation of Upper Silesia into Poland. Przedmiotem artykułu jest moczka – jedna z charakterystycznych i najstarszych śląskich potraw wigilijnych, której tradycja spożywania sięga drugiej połowy XIX w. Traktowana jako wykwintny deser, podawana jest zazwyczaj na końcu uroczystej kolacji wigilijnej. Podstawą analizy są materiały pozyskane w trakcie badań terenowych prowadzonych w latach 2019–2021 na Górnym Śląsku, w dwóch województwach: śląskim i opolskim. Autorka omawia zasięg występowania dania, funkcjonujące nazwy, produkty wchodzące w jej skład, a także konsumpcję w różnych grupach wiekowych oraz nowe praktyki zwyczajowe mające wpływ na jej współczesny odbiór. Moczka stanowi interesujący przykład dziedzictwa kulinarnego Śląska.
