Multiple Cutaneous Metastases in the Chest from Prostatic Carcinoma

We report a case of multiple cutaneous metastases from prostate cancer. A 78-year-old man with an 8-year history of prostate cancer had multiple nodular lesions in the chest. Histologically, the lesion showed an abortive glandular lumina and tall columnar cells with abundant cytoplasm. Immunohistochemical staining for AE1:AE3 cytokeratin cocktail, prostate-specific antigen, and prostate-specific acid phosphatase was positive in tumor cells, confirming the diagnosis of cutaneous metastases from prostate cancer. We report this case because of the rarity of cutaneous metastases from prostatic adenocarcinoma in the chest region.

Lack of antiandrogenic effects of topical bifonazole on sebaceous glands and hairs in the hamster flank organ.

The activity of topically applied bifonazole was evaluated in vivo in the three androgen-dependent structures of the hamster flank organ, i.e. the pigmented spot, sebaceous glands and hairs. Topical bifonazole in our experience did not demonstrate any morphological effect on sebaceous gland and hair even when applied in the dosage of 3 mg/cm&lt;sup&gt;2&lt;/sup&gt;/day. On the basis of our morphometric results we can conclude that topically applied bifonazole does not interfere with cutaneous androgen metabolic transformations in the pilosebaceous unit of the flank organ.

Prolidase deficiency is a rare disorder inherited through an autosomal recessive gene. The hallmark of the disorder are iminodipeptiduria, chronic skin ulcers, recurring infections, mental retardation and characteristic facial appearance, although prolidase deficiency can occur with no clinical manifestation. The primary biological function of the enzyme involves the metabolism of collagen degradation products and the recycling of proline for collagen resynthesis. We describe two patients with prolidase deficiency and review the different clinical manifestations suggesting the pathogenetic mechanism through few hypotheses.

An 80-year-old-female patient had a pigmented lesion on: the hard palate, the soft palate, the alveolar mucosa and the vestibolar mucosa of the maxillary gingiva. [Cardiovascular risk profile of patients with psoriasis].

The aim of this study was to assess the cardiovascular risk profile of patients with psoriasis compared to patients without psoriasis. A case-control assay was performed using 143 cases (psoriasis patients) and 104 controls (patients without psoriasis). We assessed the presence of hypertension, lipid profile (HDL, triglycerides), diabetes, and body mass index in both cases and controls. Psoriasis patients showed an unfavorable cardiovascular risk profile and a higher risk of cardiovascular events and metabolic syndrome than patients without psoriasis.
