Chemical Composition of the Essential Oil ofAnethum graveolensAerial Parts
Abstract:The chemical composition of the essential oil obtained by hydrodistillation method from the aerial parts of Anethum graveolens were analysed by GC-MS. Twelve compounds constituting 96.8 % of the oil were identified. The main compounds were α-phellandrene (31.8 %), apiole (15.3 %), dill ether (13.2 %), limonene (11.8 %), geraniol (10.6 %) and pcymene (5.3 %). The chemical composition of the oil was found to be similar as reported from India and abroad, however there was a considerable quantitative variation among the major compounds identified.
Volatile Constituents of the Seed Coat ofZanthoxylum rhetsa(Roxb.) DC.
Abstract The chemical composition of the volatile oil of Zanthoxylum rhetsa seed coat was analyzed by GC and GC/MS. Thirty-four compounds, accounting for 87.4% of the oil were identifed. The major compounds were terpinen-4-ol (32.1%), α-terpineol (8.2%), sabinene (8.1%), β-phellandrene (7.4%) and 2-undecanone (7.1%).

Chemical Constituents ofGynura cusimbuaAerial Parts
Abstract The essential oil isolated from the aerial parts of Gynura cusimbua was analyzed by GC and GC/MS. Forty-seven constituents totaling 91.92% of the oil were identified. The major constituents of the oil are myrcene (31.0%), β- phellandrene (12.43%), eugenol (6.34%), α-humulene (6.20%), dodecyl acrylate (6.09%), α-copaene (5.61%), phytol (3.21%), germacrene D (3.0%), cryptone (2.04%), 2,4-ditertbutylphenol (1.62%), α-pinene (1.33%), α-cadinene (1.26%), caryophyllene oxide (1.24%) and β-caryophyllene (1.08%).
Chemical composition and herbicidal activity of the essential oil from a Cistus ladanifer population from Spain
[EN] The essential oil composition of Cistus ladanifer grown in central Spain was analysed by gas chromatography and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry, revealing it to be rich in oxygenated compounds, with trans-pinocarveol (20.00%), bornyl acetate (7.03%) and terpinen-4-ol (6.37%) as the main monoterpene compounds. Viridiflorol (13.59%) and ledol (4.36%) were the main constituents of the oxygenated sesquiterpene fraction. Large amounts of-pinene (4.70%) were found in the hydrocarbonated fractions. Chemical composition of the essential oils fromEriocephalus africanus L. var.africanus populations growing in Spain
Essential oils from the aerial parts of three Eriocephalus africanus L. var. africanus populations were analysed by means of GC–FID and GC–MS. Sixty-one constituents were identified, representing more than 96% of the total oil composition. Artemisia ketone (56.46–56.58%), intermedeol (9.19–11.63%) and γ-eudesmol (4.26–5.64%) were the main compounds. Grapefruit essential oils inhibit quorum sensing of Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Citrus essential oils are used in food to confer flavor and aromas. The citrus essential oils have been granted as GRAS and could be used as antimicrobial additives to control bacterial quorum sensing from potential food bacterial pathogens. The chemical composition and inhibitory activity of Citrus paradisi (grapefruit) essential oils obtained by cold-pressed method (EOP) and cold-pressed method followed by steam distillation, against Pseudomonas aeruginosa were determined . Variation of Terpenoids Constituents in Natural Population ofCinnamomum tamala(L.) Leaves
Abstract The leaves of Cinnamomum tamala L. (Lauraceae) were collected from seven plants occurring in seven different areas of Manipur and analyzed for their essential oil and eugenol contents using GC and GC/MS. The yield of the oil was found to vary from 1.5–5.6% (w/w), on a dry weight basis. A total of 79 compounds were identified in the oils. Eugenol was found as a major compound in the leaf oils and its concentration varied from 35.1–94.3% followed by α-phellandrene (1.0–25.4%).
Chemical composition and antibacterial effect of Smyrnium olusatrum L. Fruit Essential Oil
The plants of the <em>Apiaceae</em> family are mainly used for food purposes and their multiple therapeutic properties and biological activities. This study aims to determine the chemical composition of Essential Oil (EO) of the fruits of <em>Smyrnium olusatrum</em> L. obtained by hydrodistillation in Clevenger-type apparatus. Abstract The essential oil composition of Lantana camara , Eucalyptus camaldulensis and Eriocephalus africanus was analyzed by means of GC and GC–MS and bioassayed in order to determine their activity against Amaranthus hybridus and Portulaca oleracea . E. camaldulensis essential oil, with spathulenol as the main compound, was the most effective, completely inhibiting germination and seedling growth on both weeds. Preparation of 7-Alkoxylated Furanopyrones: Semisynthesis of (−)-Etharvensin, a New Styryl-Lactone from Goniothalamus arvensis
A new furanopyrone derivative, (−)-etharvensin (1), was isolated from the stem bark of Goniothalamus arvensis. Semisynthesis of the 7-ethoxyfuranopyrone 1 was achieved by addition of EtOH in concentrated acid medium to the unsaturated α-pyrone (+)-altholactone (2). This protocol constitutes a novel, direct (single-step), and efficient method to prepare this class of bioactive compounds.
Control of Portulaca oleracea by boldo and lemon essential oils in different soils
Soil characteristics influence plant growth and can affect the phytotoxicity of the essential oils. In this study chemical composition and herbicidal activity of Peumus boldus Mol. and lemon essential oils in different growing medium against Portulaca oleracea L. was investigated. Ninety-four compounds accounting between 95.5 and 99.8% of the total essential oil were identified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry in boldo and lemon essential oils. Styryl-pyrones from Goniothalamus arvensis
Two novel styrl-pyrones, (+)-garvensintriol and (+)-etharvendiol, together with a known cytotoxic furano-furone, (+)-goniofufurone, have been isolated from the stem bark of Goniothalamus arvensis. A different relative configuration, cis-erythro-erythro for garvensintriol and cis-threo-erythro for etharvendiol, is established, and their absolute stereochemistry is discussed.
Essential oil composition ofArtemisia parvi?ora aerial parts
The chemical composition of the essential oil from aerial parts of A. parviflora was analysed by GC and GC–MS. Twenty-two compounds, accounting for 72.7% of the oil, were identified. The main components identified were β-caryophyllene (15.3%), germacrene D (14.7%), camphor (11.4%), artemisia ketone (7.8%), 1,8-cineole (5.8%), α-copaene (2.6%), artemisia alcohol (2.6%), terpinene-4-ol (2.3%), caryophyllene oxide (1.2%), α-pinene (1.1%), sabinyl acetate (1.1%) and α-humulene (1.1%). Chemical Composition and Antibacterial Potential of Artemisia arborescens L. Essential Oil
This study was undertaken to characterize the essential oil (EO) of Artemisia arborescens growing wild in Sicily. EO, extracted by steam distillation, was examined for its chemical composition and for its capability to inhibit some food-borne pathogen bacteria. A total of 43 compounds (13 monoterpene hydrocarbons, 14 oxygenated monoterpenes, 10 sesquiterpene hydrocarbons, three oxygenated sesquiterpenes and less amount of other three compounds), which account 93.73% of the total oil, were identified by gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Abstract The chemical composition of the essential oil of Zanthoxylum acanthopodium DC. leaves was analyzed by GC and GC/MS. Fifty-eight compounds accounting for 75.6% of the oil were identified. The major compounds were linalool (14.3%), 9,12-octadecadien-ol (8.4%), 1,8-cineole (7.7%), 2-undecanone (7.3%), farnesol (3.6%), 9,12,15-octadecatrien-1-ol (3.2%) and β-caryophyllene (3.0%).
Chemical constituents of the volatile oil of Murraya koenigii leaves
Abstract The chemical composition of the volatile oil of the fresh leaves of Murraya koenigii growing wild in Dehra Dun was analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Thirty-four compounds consisting of 97.4% of the oil were identified. The major constituents identified were α-pinene (51.7%), sabinene (10.5%), β-pinene (9.8%), β-caryophyllene (5.5%), limonene (5.4%), bornyl acetate (1.8%), terpinen-4-ol (1.3%), γ-terpinene (1.2%) and α-humulene (1.2%).

Summary The chemical constituents of the volatile oil of mature flowering twigs of wild Hyptis swaveolens growing widely in northern India were analyzed by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. Forty one compounds consisting of 77.75% of the oil were identified. The major constituents of the oil were sabinene (14.18%), β-caryophyllene (12.52%), caryophyllene oxide (10.50%), abietatriene (6.42%), terpinen-4-ol (4.88%), limonene (4.42%), cis -sabinene hydrate (3.52%), spathulenol (3.14%), α-terpinolene (2.75%), β-pinene (2.42%), p -cymen-8-ol (1.76%), trans -sabinene hydrate (1.33%) and abietadiene (1.01%).

Styryl-lactones from the stem bark of Goniothalamus arvensis
The fractionation of the methanolic extract of Goniothalamus arvensis (Annonaceae) stem bark led to the isolation of two novel styryl-lactones, arvensin and (+)-2-epi-altholactone. The structures of these compounds, which belong to the furano-pyrone group, were established on the basis of mass spectrometry, one- and two-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance experiments, as well as simple chemical derivatization. Abstract The effects of two bisbenzyltetrahydroisoquinoline alkaloids, 1S, 1′S tetrandrine and its isomer 1R, 1′S isotetrandrine, were investigated in rat isolated uterus in order to identify the mechanism of relaxant action and to study the influence of the absolute configuration on the activity of these alkaloids. Both inhibited the uterine contraction induced by high K+, acetylcholine and oxytocin. In Ca2+-free medium, isotetrandrine relaxed the sustained contraction induced by oxytocin but tetrandrine did not. Acetogenins from Annona glabra seeds
Abstract From the cytotoxic ethanol extract of Annona glabra seeds, a new mono-tetrahydrofuranic (mono-THF) acetogenin, glabranin, as well as pair of 22-epimer bis-THF acetogenins, were isolated by semipreparative HPLC. Four known mono-THF acetogenins with an identical threo/trans/threo relative configuration, annonacin, annonacinone, corossolin and corossolone, were found to be potent inhibitors of complex I of the mitochondrial respiratory chain.
Essential oil analysis ofTeucrium libanitisandT. turredanumby GC and GC-MS
The chemical composition of the six essential oils obtained from Teucrium libanitis and Teucrium turredanum collected at different localities was analysed by GC and GC–MS. Fifty-three constituents were identified.
