Summary Background Presenting symptoms of childhood cancers might mimic those of rheumatic diseases. However, the evidence available to guide differential diagnosis remains scarce. Preventing wrong or delayed diagnosis is therefore important to avoid incorrect administration of glucocorticoid or immunosuppressive therapy and worsening of prognosis. Classical pediatric Hodgkin lymphoma in very young patients: the Italian experience

Many studies have reported a more favorable outcome in younger patients with Hodgkin lymphoma (HL). The aims of this study were to find an appropriate age cutoff able to identify low-risk children and to describe the natural history of 135 very young patients affected by classic HL (cHL). The best age cutoff was identified at 7 years of age. EFS (p = .0451) and PFS (p = .00921) were significantly better in the group of younger patients. The OS rate at 10 years was 97.0% in the younger group and 92.5% in the older one (p = .0448). Background We evaluated an intensified chemotherapy strategy in children with Wilms tumor who relapsed with high-risk features. Procedures From January 2001 to June 2006, we treated 20 consecutive children with reinduction chemotherapy (using ifosfamide/carboplatin/etoposide in 15/20 cases), with (n = 15) or without (n = 5) subsequent high-dose chemotherapy and hematopoietic stem cell support, surgery where feasible, and radiation therapy. Childhood high-risk acute lymphoblastic leukemia in first remission: results after chemotherapy or transplant from the AIEOP ALL 2000 study

The outcome of high-risk (HR) Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) patients enrolled in AIEOP-BFM ALL 2000 study (NCT00613457) in Italy is described. Overall, 1999 Philadelphia negative ALL patients entered the study. HR criteria were: minimal residual disease (MRD) levels ≥10-3 at day 78 (HR-MRD), no complete remission (no-CR) at day 33, t(4;11) translocation, Prednisone Poor Response (PPR). Introduction: The present study aimed at evaluating Italian epidemiological trends of pediatric inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) over the period 2009–2018. Materials and methods: Data from 1969 patients enrolled in the Italian Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition Registry, by 49 pediatric IBD centers throughout the country, were analyzed, comparing three different time intervals (2009–2012, 2013–2015, 2016–2018). We tested the hypothesis that traffic-related air pollution is associated with paediatric leukaemia because of chronic exposure to several potential carcinogens.
