It is always useful to set bounds to a semantic field when attempting to discuss lexical transmission. Once our attention is phocused on the names of birds collected by Palmireno in his Vocabulario del Humanista (1569), the influence of Belon, Gesner and specially of Joan B. Agnes becomes evident. On the other hand, it is also evident that the Catalan lexicographer Pere Torra (17th century) used in a rather indiscriminate manner Palmireno's work while assimilating in his Dictionnary words which on the base of their formal and / or their semantic structure can not be considered as Catalan. Some of these words have been nevertheless accepted by 20th century lexicographers.

Los autores realizan un estudio experimental en conejos, con el objeto de valorar las posibilidades reales de utilización de fibrocartílago meniscal en la reparación de defectos osteocondrales en zona de carga, empleando injertos heterólogos tanto frescos como congelados procedentes de perros. Determination of antimony in drinking waters by an inexpensive, reproducible hydride generator for atomic spectroscopy.

A method for determining antimony in drinking waters is described. In order to prevent a substantial error caused by the different oxidation states of antimony, Sb(V) is reduced to Sb(III) with potassium iodide-ascorbic acid. Covalent hydride is generated with a home made device by adding NaBH4. The hydride is then atomized in a flame-heated silica tube and atomic absorption is measured spectrophotometrically. In a group of 472 impotent patients who were evaluated with pharmacologic duplex sonography, 117 patient (24.8%) had a history of hypertension, 26 of them (22.2%) for more than 10 years. Objective data about the changes in pulsation, diameter and blood flow velocity of the penile arteries after papaverine injection and the resulting erectile response allowed indirect assessment of the penile venous function. Varying degrees of impaired arterial function were diagnosed in 85% of the patients. When the body/head motion is sensed by otolith organs, they respond not only to the resultant acceleration of the motion but also to the gravitational force. We investigated the influence of the gravity vector on the otolithic-ocular reflex caused by motion in normal subjects. Se han practicado tres tipos de lesiones en el menisco, transversal, longitudinal parameniscal y longitudinal interna alejeda del paramenisco. For a generalized mathematical model of the pelagic compartment of a lake ecosystem we show that a small variance in input parameters may result in a large variance in predicted biomasses. Since input parameters for this kind of models always show a great variance, we conclude that deterministic prediction of biomass-trajectories is rather useless and demonstrate how stochastic analysis of the model may lead to a helpful risk analysis.

Are Multiple Domicile Changes a Risk Factor for Multiple Sclerosis?

A retrospective case-control study was conducted to estimate the possible association between risk of multiple sclerosis (MS) and the number of changes in residence before the age 20 years. Forty-one patients and 82 controls were interviewed. Using the Mantel-Haenszel estimate of the odds ratio, no association was found between the number of moves and MS.

We introduce a mathematical model which is used to simulate the continuous casting process and to control the secondary cooling water sprays. The main object is to minimize the defects in the final products. The problem is formulated as an optimal control problem where the cost function is constructed according to certain metallurgical criteria and constraints. A random sample of 778 subjects representing ages 25, 35, 45 and 55 years were studied for the amount of habitual physical activity, their anthropometric structure, vertical jumping height, trunk extension and flexion torques and dynamic endurance fitness of trunk extension and flexion. Production of pionic atoms with the (e, E-prime) reaction

We study the reaction e+A→e+(Aπ-) with the π- bound in the nucleus as a means of producing deeply bound pionic states of heavy nuclei so far unobserved. Although the cross sections found can be rather large, they are overwhelmed by the background from the inclusive (e,e) reaction, which makes the reaction not well suited for the investigation of these pionic states. However, the ratio of signal to background is much bigger in light nuclei and the reaction could be used to observe pionic states of unstable light nuclei, provided the resolution in the beam and detectors is of the order of the width of the pionic state.
