Regularization and finite element approximation of the wave equation with Dirichlet boundary data

A numerical method for solving the wave equation with nonhomogenuous, nonsmooth Dirichlet boundary condition is proposed. Convergence of the method is proved and some erràr estimates are derived [L-S-2]. The method is based on the regularization technique [L-1], [L-S-l] of the wave equation with Dirichlet bounàary data. The distribution and inducibility of cytosolic glutathione S-transferase (EC 2.5.1.18) and glutathione peroxidase (EC 1.11.1.19) activities in rat liver parenchymal, Kupffer and endothelial cells were studied. In untreated rats glutathione S-transferase activity with 1-chloro-2,4-dinitrobenzene and 4-hydroxynon-2-trans-enal as substrates was 1.7-2.2-fold higher in parenchymal cells than in Kupffer and endothelial cells, whereas total, selenium-dependent and non-selenium-dependent glutathione peroxidase activities were similar in all three cell types. Selective regional distribution of tubulin induced in cerebrum by hyperammonemia

Ingestion of ammonium induces hyperammonemia which increases tubulin content in cerebrum but not in cerebellum. We have dissected 11 discrete areas of cerebrum and quantified the tubulin content in control and hyperammonemic rats. An heterogeneity in the induction of tubulin is shown. The areas more affected are ventral hippocampus, dorsal hippocampus, hypothalamus, septum, reticular formation and frontal cortex, in which tubulin content increased by 63%, 27%, 32%, 48%, 45%, and 25%, respectively, after two months of feeding the ammonium diet.
Sex-role orientation and memory for gender-related terms: Another uncertain link

Two studies are reported which investigate the relationship between sex-role orientation and memory for gender-related terms. Based on the concept of ‘cognitive schema’, theoretical models have recently been advanced suggesting that the schematic cognitive representation of gender facilitates the recall of words pertinent to gender. One of these models, Markus' self-schema theory, proposes that masculine and feminine sex-typed individuals have a better memory for terms that correspond to their respective self-schemata. The inverse-voltammetric determination of the natural contents of lead and copper in beer is possible in a flow-through cell with medium exchange after UV-photolysis. The working conditions are given and the results are compared with those obtained by a wet oxidative digestion procedure. The relative standard deviations were: Cu 3.5% and Pb 1.4%.
A New Technical Approach For Retrograde Administration of Cardioplegic Solutions

Myocardial protection via the coronary sinus is now currently used by several groups. Although it has generally provided satisfactory results, some of its problems are still not completely resolved. We present a new technique of cardioplegia delivery through the coronary sinus with a Pezzer catheter inserted into it and secured in place by a purse string suture. We believe that this method is safer and more reliable than others.

To investigate the muscarine receptor type mediating inhibition of [3H]-noradrenaline release from the isolated rat and guinea-pig iris we have determined the potency of antimuscarinic drugs to antagonize the methacholine-induced inhibition of [3H]-noradrenaline overflow evoked by field stimulation (3 Hz, 2 min). The prejunctional apparent affinities were compared with those obtained for postjunctional muscarine receptors mediating the methacholine-induced contraction of the isolated rabbit iris sphincter muscle. The ultra trace element bismuth is regulary found in wine on an average of about 0.1 ppb. Very low bismuth contents were also determined in soil and different biomaterials. In spite of those very low quantities even speciation experiments show results, so far that about 90% of the bismuth in the grapes is water-soluble, resumably as saccharic acids. For detecting such low quantities a very sensitive method of differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry was developped. The speciation experiments were carried out by fractional extraction.
Comparison between two strictly local QCD sum rules

Two strictly local QCD sum rules, analytic extrapolation by conformal mapping and analytic continuation by duality, are developed and presented in full detail. They allow the extrapolation of the QCD amplitude to a single point near zero in the complex {ital q}{sup 2} plane. Being orthogonal to the usual QCD sum rules, they present a drastic enlargement of phenomenological applications. In addition, the stability of both methods is shown explicitly, a fact which makes them particularly reliable. A monoclonal antibody against an adult-specific cuticular protein of Tenebrio molitor (Insecta, Coleoptera)

International audience; To study the sequential expression of the epidermal program in the mealworm Tenebrio molitor, monoclonal antibodies were prepared against the water-soluble proteins from preecdysial adult cuticle. Among the 16 clones obtained, one of them (named K2F6) recognized a 20-kDa antigen, found only in adult extracts but not in the larval or pupal ones, as revealed by immunoblot analysis. Our results strongly suggest an epidermal origin for this protein. The monoclonal antibody K2F6 fails to react with water-soluble proteins from fat body and hemolymph taken during the deposition of the 20-kDa antigen. This paper analyses the impact of regional incentive policy from the point of view of efficiency. Contrary to usual practice, a micro-level approach is used. Four possibilities for displacement effects to arise are proposed: displacement may be either direct or indirect and simultaneously directed either at existing or ‘potential’ production. Sensitivity analysis for optimal shape design problems

Various methods for performing the sensitivity analysis in solving optimal shape design problems are outlined. The methods are illustrated in detail in the finite setting of a unilateral boundary value problem of the Dirichlet-Signorini type. The methods are compared in several numerical examples.

Extrapolating the Interacting Boson-Model treatment from lighter neighbours to98Y we predict the properties of low-lying states of spherical nature in IBFFM. This odd-odd nucleus which presents one of the rare cases of coexisting spherical and deformed shapes is of fundamental importance for understanding nuclear phase transitions.
Kristallstruktur, thermische Ausdehnung und Farbwechsel von (Me3Ge)2Sb-Sb(GeMe3)2 und anderen Distibanen

Abstract Single crystals of the distibanes (Me3M)4Sb2 (1: M = Si, 2: M = Ge) are obtained by the oxidation in air of (Me3M)3Sb. The crystal structure of 2 is reported. 2 forms linear chains of distibane molecules in trans conformation with Sb ··· Sb contacts of 386 pm at −110°C and 390 pm at 22°C. The thermal expansion of crystals of 2 and (Me3Sn)4Sb2 (3) has been determined. UV-VIS spectra of 1–3, Me4Sb2 (4), Et4Sb2 (5), and Ph4Sb2 (6) in different phases have been recorded. The spectra of 1–5 are consistent with the visible colour changes.
