In this paper, we propose a method for clustering mixed data. The method is a nonhierarchical one, and deals simultaneously with variables of three main kinds: numerical, ordinal, and nominal. It is based on the minimization of a particular criterion f(G。) over all the partitions G。of n entities in m distinct clusters. The criterion is founded on a peculiar kind of internal standardized mean diversity of the entities, according to the three types of variables. In this paper we present the SAMPO-approach for modelling and analyzing office information systems. We emphasize the collective features of office work and the role of communications in coordinating the collective efforts. The approach is based on the language action view where language is seen as a means of doing things. The approach also accepts the fact that collective work includes both harmony and conflict and tries to capture both of these features.

Estudio experimental de la Microangiografía del Tronco Ciático de la rata en situaciones de normalidad: compresión y descompresión

Se hace un estudio en 20 ratas sometidas a compresión del nervio ciático según variante de la técnica de WEISL y OSBORNE, y compresión-descompresión a tiempos variables y se estudia la microcirculación del mismo en estas situaciones, comparativamente con el nervio normal. Entre los cambios del patrón vascular en la compresión nerviosa, resalta la intensa vascularización de las zonas inmediatamente proximales y distales al a compresión, contrastando con la escasez de vasos en el área selectivamente comprimida. Effects of dexamethasone on human synovial fibroblast-like cells, from osteoarthritic joints, in culture.

The effect of Dexamethasone (DEX) on cell division and macromolecular synthesis was investigated in a line (McCoy cells, A 9) of synovial fibroblast-like cells derived from human osteoarthritic joints. DEX markedly reduced the proliferation of McCoy cells in a time and dose-dependent manner. The maximal inhibition (45%) was found at 500 nM DEX 24 h after incubation and was accompanied by the appearance of giant macrophage-like cells. After DEX treatment cells showed increased content of DNA, proteins and RNA together with the reduction of [3H]-thymidine incorporation into the TCA-precipitable fraction.

Rheology-morphology relationships in nylon 6/liquid-crystalline polymer blends

Extrusion measurements have been carried out on blends of nylon 6 and a liquid-crystalline copolyesteramide (LCP). The flow curves at low temperature show a behavior similar to that of pure LCP with a rapid rise of the viscosity at low shear rates. At high shear rates the viscosity is lower than that for each of the two components. This minimum has been attributed to the lack of interactions between the two phases and to the formation of fibrils of the LCP phase. The SEM analysis shows, indeed, that fibrils of the LCP phase are produced in the convergent flow at the inlet of the capillary at high shear rates. These fibrils are lost during the flow in the long capillary.

System size dependence of the autocorrelation time for the Swendsen-Wang Ising model

Abstract We present Monte Carlo simulation results of the autocorrelation time for the Swendsen-Wang method for the simulation of the Ising model. We have calculated the exponential and the integrated autocorrelation time at the critical point T c of the two-dimensional Ising model. Our results indicate that both autocorrelation times depend logarithmically on the linear system size L instead of a power law. The simulations were carried out on the parallel computer of the condensed matter theory group at the University of Mainz.

Seasonal zooplankton patterns in a shallow oligotrophic lake: Loch Rusky (Scotland)

The zooplankton taxa and their seasonal distribution are describeb for Loch Rusky, a shallow oligotrophic lake in the central region of Scotland. 15 species were indentified: 11 Rotifera, 2 Cladocera and 2 Copepoda. Only 5 species Polyarthra remata, Keratella cochlearis, Filinia terminalis, Trichocerca sp. and Eudiaptomus gracilis occurred in sufficient numbers to facilitate a description of their seasonal pattern. The annual zooplankton variation was dominated by rotifers for most of the year, but copepods (E. gracilis, Cyclops sp.) only were dominant in the epilimnion during summer. New bundle branch block after coronary artery bypass grafting— evaluation by CK-MB isoenzyme analysis and transoesophageal echocardiography

Twelve patients with a new complete bundle branch block after coronary artery bypass grafting underwent transoesophageal echocardiography (TEE). The results of TEE were compared with the pre-operative ventriculography, CK-MB isoenzyme time-release curves and clinical course. In eight patients with transient right bundle branch block or bifascicular block, low CK-MB activities and an uncomplicated postoperative course, transoesophageal echocardiography showed no new segmental wall motion abnormalities apart from a paradoxical septal movement in five. It is pointed out that the topological soliton bag is incompletely quantized in the papers of Durgut, Pak, and Yilmaz and of Wittman and Woloshyn, leading to results on the neutron-proton mass difference and other phenomena that are not implied by the model. The purpose of this paper is to clarify how and where their scheme goes wrong and to propose an alternative consistent scheme of quantization.

The potencies of several muscarine receptor antagonists in blocking either the autoinhibition of acetylcholine release or the muscarinic contraction of the sphincter muscle upon acetylcholine release were investigated in the guinea-pig iris. The agonist at pre- or postjunctional muscarine receptors was acetylcholine released upon field stimulation (5.5 Hz, 2 min) of the irides preloaded with 14C-choline. Study of ν1/ν3 interacting bands of silane : analysis of infrared and Raman spectra

International audience; The ν1/ν3 interacting bands of natural silane have been studied by Fourier transform spectroscopy and stimulated Raman spectroscopy, respectively, in the regions 2040–2320 and 2180–2187 cm−1. These data combined with available microwave observations have been analyzed using a reduced effective Hamiltonian developed through the fifth order for 28SiH4 and through the fourth order for 29SiH4 and 30SiH4. The observed infrared and Raman transitions have been very well reproduced with a standard deviation of about 0.0004 cm−1 for 28SiH4. Some anomalies in the Hamiltonian expansion have been found, but they did not perturb the analysis.

Se propone como alternativa cuando no se dispone de banco de hueso ni unidad de microcirugía The viability of a bone segment of the tibia, preserved by lyophilization and reimplanted two month after the accident is reported in one case. The method used in the present case can be an alternative in Centers without facilities of microsurgical unit or bone banks.
