Presentamos un caso de osteporosis idiopática juvenil. Se trata de una niña de ll años que debuta con un aplastamiento de T4 tras un traumatismo mínimo y que posteriormente, con el corsé de Milwaukee puesto, desarrolla múltiples aplastamientos vertebrales. Efectuan una revisión de la literatura sobre la etiopatogenia, diagnóstico diferencial y pronóstico de esta rar a forma de osteporosis. Multiple Mucosal Biopsies and Postoperative Urinary Cytology in Patients with Bladder Cancer

Seventy-one patients with bladder tumors of stage Ta, T1 or T2 were studied by bladder mucosal biopsies. In 34 (48%) patients abnormal histology was found in at least one of the biopsies. The occurrence and severity of mucosal abnormalities were related to tumor grade and stage. Urinary cytology after complete tumor resection was positive in 18 of 19 patients with abnormal biopsies and in 6 of 12 patients with normal biopsies. Postoperative urinary cytology seems to be a good indicator for the presence of urothelial atypia.

Serum hormones and physical performance capacity in young boy athletes during a 1-year training period

Serum hormones and physical performance capacity in boy athletes (AG; n = 19) were investigated during a 1-year training period (between the ages of 11.6 and 12.6 years). Six young untrained boys served as the control group (CG). The mean serum testosterone concentration increased significantly in AG (P less than 0.05) following the training period from 2.92 nmol.l-1, SD 1.04 to 5.81 nmol.l-1, SD 1.33. Significant differences were not observed in the cortisol, sex hormone binding globulin and growth hormone levels during the follow-up period. Myxoma of the orbit: a clinicopathologic report.

A 27-year-old white man developed proptosis of his left eye over a period of 2 years. It was associated with vertical diplopia and displacement of the left globe down and laterally. Ultrasonography showed a cystic mass in the superior orbital region. Computed tomography (CT) demonstrated a solid, well-defined lesion behind the globe displacing the optic nerve medially. A transfrontal craniotomy revealed a nodular mass in the posterior and superior orbit, which extended anteriorly up to the globe. Histopathology, immunohistochemistry, and transmission electron microscopy proved the tumor to be a myxoma.

Experimental autoimmune hepatitis: Disease induction, time course and t-cell reactivity

This study describes a murine model of autoimmune hepatitis: experimental autoimmune hepatitis. Experimental autoimmune hepatitis could be induced most effectively in male C57BL/6 mice by intraperitoneal immunization with the 100,000 g supernatant of syngeneic liver homogenate (S-100) in complete Freund's adjuvant. BALB/C and C3H mice were less susceptible than C57BL/6 mice. Experimental autoimmune hepatitis could not be induced in Lewis rats. Intraperitoneal immunization was more effective than intramuscular or subcutaneous injections, and the amount of protein administered above a threshold was of little influence. Cuando el pericondrio se injerta plegado en U de forma que la superficie de ruptura de las cápsulas condrocitarias se enfrenten entre sí, se asiste a la neoformación de dos clases de cartílago, una que aparece en la capa más interna del pericondrio y otro en las zonas de repliegue de éste último. Diagnostic Significance of Epithelioid Granulomas in Crohnʼs Disease in Children

Out of 528 children with Crohn's disease in a Multicenter Paediatric Crohn's Disease Study Group, 37 cases had epithelioid granulomas but did not fulfill defined radiographic criteria of the disease. Follow-up studies including clinical, biochemical, radiological, endoscopic, and histological investigations were done in these patients. Initially, all patients showed clinical symptoms and 27 of them had biochemical signs of chronic inflammation. After a mean follow-up of 3 years, all 37 children treated for Crohn's disease got a complete upper gastrointestinal series with small bowel followthrough and 8 children in addition had barium enemas. Many hole-nesting passerine birds accept, or even prefer, nest boxes. Hence most of our knowledge about the breeding biology, population dynamics, life-history evolution and so forth of such species comes from nest box studies. This, in some cases, might lead to erroneous conclusions. For example, breeding density in nest box areas may often be much higher than in the natural situation (e.g. von Haartman, 1971), possibly leading to unnatural density dependent effects. Clinical follow-up after surgery of lumbar disc prolapses. A critical analysis.

A retrospective clinical study was made on 987 patients with lumbar disc disease treated by discectomy. All patients had been operated on in the Department of Neurosurgery (University-Hospital Mainz). 545 patients were males, and 442 females (1.2:1). Patients in the 4th decade of life were affected most often (33.5%). Perioperative complications occurred in 5.4%, with discitis as the single major complication (1.9%). 83% of all patients who underwent discectomy could return to their normal occupation.

Abstract Algorithms are given for evaluating the relative amount of useful information related to a particular parameter which is carried by individual data points and intervals of the variables. The algorithms provide an efficient means of using the information contained in a set of data. Applications to the optimization of weighting in regression methods are described. Several informational and combined informational-statistical types of weighting are studied as a means of improving the accuracy and precision of the parameters obtained by non-linear regression.

Abstract The geometrical structure of the gauge equivalence classes of reducible connections are investigated. The general procedure to determine the set of orbit types (strata) generated by the action of the gauge group on the space of gauge potentials is given. In the so obtained classification, a stratum, containing generically certain reducible connections, corresponds to a class of isomorphic subbundles given by an orbit of the structure and gauge group. The structure of every stratum is completely clarified. A nonmain stratum can be understood in terms of the main stratum corresponding to a stratification at the level of a subbundle.

On an Inequality for Trigonometric Polynomials In Several Variables

Publisher Summary This chapter presents trigonometric polynomials in n variables. Using the methods of approximation theory, an inequality can be extended to almost periodic functions and to still more general classes of functions as in the case for Bohr's inequality. However, no analogous result exists in the case of two variables. For the solution of problems containing small divisors, the estimate has to be completed by theorems concerning the best approximation of holomorphic functions by trigonometric polynomials in polystrips. The chapter also presents equations to provide an estimate for a differential operator.

Abstract Allyl alcohols react with primary aromatic amines and stoichiometric amounts of mercury(II) tetrafluoroborate to give mixtures of mono- and diallyl anilines. However, the use of the tandem aminomercuration-deoxymercuration promoted by catalytic mercury(II) tetrafluoroborate allows to perform regiospecifically the monoallylation reaction with very high yields. A mechanism is proposed to account for the observed results.
