Las posibles alteraciones funcionales de la conjunción gastroesofágica frecuentes en la escoliosis son de mecanismo no bien conocido. Con el objeto de conocer su incidencia y relación con las características de la curva escoliótica, posible origen y sus modificaciones con la corrección quirúrgica, se ha realizado un estudio radiológico de tránsito esofagogástrico, manometría esofágica y TAC en tres grupos de paciente escolióticos y un grupo control. En un grupo de 96 pacientes jóvenes con escoliosis existía un 27% de trastornos funcionales de la unión gastroesofágica frente a un 0% en el grupo control de 25 casos. Se analizan retrospectivamente los resultados tras laminectomía descorrí presiva en una serie de 31 pacientes que presentaban compromiso medular debido a metástasis vertebrales. Las lesiones estaban localizadas a nivel torácico en 27 casos. Siendo el tumor má s frecuente el de próstata en hombres (10/21) y en mujeres el de mama (5/10). Previamente a la cirugía, 18 pacientes presentaban paraparesia y 5 paraplejia. El tiempo de supervivencia tras la cirugía fue limitado: 35.48% sobrevivían a los 6 meses y solo un 22.58% al año. Anhand von zwei Studien wird der Stellenwert der Thoraxverletzung beim multitraumatisierten Kind dargelegt. Die Zahl der Thoraxverletzten im Rahmen des Multitraumas hat um 8% auf 34% zugenommen. Schwerere Einzelverletzungen werden trotz Ruckganges des Multitraumas beobachtet. Thoraxverletzungen treten als zentrales Trauma auf; deshalb weist die Extremitatenperipherie nur selten zusatzliche Verletzungen auf. Die altersabhangig unterschiedlichen Blutvolumina, der besondere Flussigkeitsstoffwechsel, die verschiedenen Elastizitatsperioden des Brustkorbes und altersabhangige Lungenvolumina mussen bei der Beurteilung solcher Verletzungen genau beachtet werden.

L'estudi de l'Arc romà de Cabanes ha permès de donar llum a un aspecte poc conegut d'aquest monument, com és el de la utilització de l'apel·latiu «de Berà» entre els segles XVI-XVIII1. Situat enmig d'una extensa plana a la qual dóna nom i a la vora de l'antiga Via Augusta, l'Arc de Cabanes degué ser utilitzat com a fita territorial en la baixa època musulmana, car a la donació que el rei Jaume I féu del Senyoriu de Miravet (Cabanes) al bisbe Ponç de Tortosa l'any 1225, abans de la conquesta, apareix citada una via maior com a límit entre els territoris d'aquest castell i el de Vilafamés.

Los autores efectúan un estudio en la rat a utilizando un modelo experimental de meniscectomía completa y extirpación parcial del paramenisco, comprobándose como se origina un proceso de regeneración que conduce a la formación de una nueva estructura, de aspecto meniscal, de menor tamaño que el primitivo menisco y formado por tejido fibroso con focos condroides. An experimental study was made in the rat with total meniscus extirpation. This study show a regeneration process that take us to a new structure formation like meniscus, with fibrous tissue formation with condroid points.

Therapeutische Möglichkeiten beim Rezidiv des Zervixkarzinoms

Rezidive von Zervixkarzinomen nach Operation und adjuvanter Strahlentherapie oder nach alleiniger primarer Strahlenbehandlung haben eine extrem schlechte Prognose und stellen eine Herausforderung fur den gynakologischen Onkologen dar. Bei ca. 35% der Patientinnen mit invasivem Zervixkarzinom zeigt sich im weiteren Krankheitsverlauf ein solches Rezidiv. A study of the metallation of meso 10-(4′-N-pyridyl)-5,15,20-triphenylporphyrin with indium is reported. The crystal structure of the title compound has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The complex crystallizes in the space group P 2 1 / n with Z = 4 and a = 10.146(2), b = 16.096(4), c = 20.861(2) A, β = 90.33 (1)° and V = 3407 A 3 . The crystal structure was refined to a conventional r (F) = 0.059 for 6355 out of 8613 reflections having δ( I )/I < 0.5. The indium-chlorine distance is 2.374(2) A, whereas the indium atom lies 0.608 and 0.7214 A from the plane of the four porphyrin nitrogens and the 24-atom porphyrin plane, respectively. The composition of the fossil assemblages of mammals (MFA) is traditionally considered as being controlled by historical factors. Its variations are attributed to biochronological changes due to evolutionary process or to biogeographic changes due to geodynamic process. The different MFA are compared as sampling units of similar nature. The presence or absence of taxa and their relative abundance are used as biochronologic and biogeographic indicators, and the samples (MFA) are considered homologous, although they appear in a different sedimentological, taphonomical, or tectonic context.

Neutral pion production at threshold and low-energy theorems

Abstract Recent experiments of neutral pion photoproduction show a strong discrepancy between experimental data and the predictions of low-energy theorems (LET). The basic ingredients of these theorems are the conservation of the electromagnetic current and the hypothesis of a partially conserved axial current (PCAC). Both, anomalies in the t-channel, and rescattering in a simple R-matrix formalism, lead to small corrections of the order of 10 – 20 %. However, the investigation of the effects of chiral symmetry breaking and isospin symmetry breaking at the quark level in a current algebraic approach leads to substantial contributions of the right order of magnitude.

We have recently shown that the uptake of amino acids by rat lactating mammary gland is 15 mmoles/day (1). This effect is achieved by an increase in food intake during lactation and probably by changes in amino acid metabolism in other tissues. Rat liver removes 75% of the total amino acids derived from a protein meal (2); therefore plays a key role in the regulation of plasma amino acid concentration.

A precise measurement of the Z resonance parameters through its hadronic decays

A measurement of the cross section for e+e-→ hadrons using 11 000 hadronic decays of the Z boson at ten different center-of-mass energies is presented. A three-parameter fit gives the following values for the Z mass MZ, the total width ΓZ, the product of the electronic and hadronic partial widths ΓeΓh, and the unfolded pole cross section σ0: MZ = 91.171 ± 0.030 (stat.) ± 0.030 (beam) GeV, ΓZ = 2.511 ± 0.065 GeV, ΓeΓh = 0.148 ± 0.006 (stat.) ± 0.004 (syst.) GeV2, σ0 = 41.6 ± 0.7 (stat.) ± 1.1 (syst.) nb, Good agreement with the predictions of the standard model is observed.
