Es wurden die N-substituierten 4-[(2-Amino-ethylmercapto)-methyl]-imidazole 2 und 3 dargestellt und auf histaminartige Wirkung untersucht. Die Thioharnstoff- und Cyanoguanidin-Derivate von 3b zeigten keine H2-antihistaminische Wirksamkeit. H2-Antihistaminics, VI: Synthesis and Activity of N-Substituted 4-[(2-Aminoethylmercapto)methyl]imidazoles The N-substituted 4-[(2-aminoethylmercapto)methyl]imidazoles 2 and 3 were prepared and tested for their histamine-like activity. The thiourea and cyanoguanidine derivatives of 3b showed no H2-antihistaminic activity.

Inhibitors of endogenous proteinases in the seeds of Scots pine, Pinus sylvestris

Extracts of resting pine seeds inhibited the proteinase activities present in extracts of endosperms of germinating seeds (hydrolysis of haemoglobin at pH 3.7 and hydrolysis of casein at pH 5.4 and 7.0). Heating the extracts of resting seeds at 60°C destroyed their own proteinase activity but their proteinase inhibitor activity decreased by only 25 to 30%. Some properties of the inhibitor(s) were studied using extracts treated at 60°C. The inhibitor activities were non-dialysable. the inhibition increased linearly with increasing inhibitor concentration up to 80% of total proteinase activity, and the maximal inhibition was 80% at pH 3.7. 90% at pH 5.4. and 97% at pH 7.0. Radioactively labelled epoxides part II. (1) tritium labelled cyclohexene oxide, transstilbene oxide and phenanthrene 9,10-oxide

Tritium labelled cyclohexene oxide, trans-stilbene oxide and phenanthrene 9,10-oxide were prepared with specific activities of 0.7 - 1.1 mCi per mmole starting with monoor diketo compounds. Tritium was introduced by reducing the ketone precursors with tritiated complex metal hydrides. The resulting alcohols were transformed to the epoxides by methods described for the unlabelled compounds. The syntheses require only two or three steps and yield cyclohexene oxide, trans-stilbene oxide and phenanthrene 9,10-oxide, important substrates for the study of epoxide hydratase and glutathione S-transferases in high radiochemical purity.

Bestimmung von Arsen im sub-ppb-Bereich durch Differential-Pulse-Cathodic-Stripping-Voltammetrie

Es wird ein Verfahren zur Bestimmung von As(III)-Spuren durch Differential-Pulse-Cathodic-Stripping-Voltammetrie (DPCSV) beschrieben. Als Arbeitselektrode dient ein hangender Quecksilbertropfen. Die Anreicherung erfolgt bei −0,55 V (Bezugselektrode: Ag/AgCl/KCl ges.) aus 1 N HCl in Gegenwart von CuCl2. Das Elektrolyseprodukt ist vermutlich eine intermetallische Verbindung der Zusammensetzung Cu3As, die auf der Oberflache des Quecksilbertropfens abgeschieden wird. Effect of L-thyroxine on renal excretion of water and electrolytes in both normal and mercury-intoxicated rats.

The urine output and the change in excretion of electrolytes (sodium, potassium, calcium, chloride, inorganic phosphate) in rats following mercury-induced acute tubular lesions showed marked recovery during L-thyroxine therapy. The kidney mechanisms responsible for this effect are discussed, considering especially the observation that rats treated with L-thyroxine have a reduced urinary output, unlike other species, including man, which react with polyuria. The oliguric effect of thyroid hormone in rats is attributed to the greater length of the vasa recta and loops of Henle.

On the sensitivity of ion traps for spectroscopic applications

Ba+ ions, created by surface ionization near one endcap of an rf quadrupole trap were slowed down by collisions with the background gas. At He pressures of 10−6 mbar or more 2% of the primary ions could be trapped. The sensitivity of ion detection by fluorescence radiation allows spectroscopic experiments, starting from less than 107 particles. The observation of the ground-state hyperfine splitting of137Ba+ is given as an example.

Influence of Ketamine anaesthesia on renal and cardiovascular functions in mongrel dogs

Cardiac minute volume, renal blood flow, pulse volume, heart rate and urinary output were determined by means of experiments made on 10 mongrel dogs. Anaesthesia was maintained by nitrous oxide/oxygen mixture administered with Ketamine. Under the conditions described it was observed that -- contrary to what is found in human patients -- cardiac and renal minute volume as well as pulse volume are significantly decreased. No significant changes has been observed in the heart rate. Whilst urinary output was decreased, the excretion of individual electrolytes was found to be different.

Abstract LiChrosorb RP-8, RP-18 and Diol as well as a newly synthesized basic dimethylamino-modified silica ion-exchanger (DMA-silica) were applied for the separation of adenylic acid, cytidylic acid and uridylic acid oligoribonucleotides. On LiChrosorb RP-8 and RP-18, respectively, in aqueous buffered eluents (K 2 HPO 4 - H 3 PO 4 ), the retention of oligonucleotides was increased with decreasing number of nucleotide units in the solute, i.e., with increasing hydrophobic character. Abstract LiChrossorb Diol® packing has been to be well-suited for the separation of proteins and enzymes according to a size-exclusion mechanism in a mean molecular-weight (MW) range between 10,000 and 100,000. Considering an elastic-plastic workhardening solid with piecewise linear yield surfaces and a piecewise linear workhardening law, we give a method for constructing bounds to the internal forces and to the (hardened) yield stresses produced by the action of variable loads at any point of the body and at any time. The loading history is supposed to be unknown, but the loads range within a given domain.

Characterization of semicrystalline random copolymers by small-angle neutron scattering

A new method is introduced to determine the degree of partitioning of noncrystallizable comonomer units (B units) between the two phases of a semicrystalline random copolymer. The method is based on the comparison of the intensities of small-angle neutron and x-ray scattering (SANS and SAXS, respectively). By this technique two quantities can be evaluated: the difference Δρ of the mass densities between the crystalline and the disordered regions, and the concentration fluctuations of the B units in the two phases. The Value of Sonography and Lymphography in the Detection of Retroperitoneal Metastases in Testicular Tumors

Lymphography has led to falsely negative or falsely positive diagnoses in 10 to 45 per cent of the cases of testicular tumor metastases reported in the literature. In our comparative study of lymphography and sonography in the preoperative staging of 29 malignant testicular tumors lymphography was accurate in 58.5 per cent of the cases, while sonography had an accuracy rate of 82.5 per cent. Sonography was superior to lymphography in the evaluation of hilar lymph node metastases and their extent, as well as for routine checkups after lymphadenectomy or irradiation.

Ischemia and post-ischemic regeneration of the small intestinal mucosa

After reversible ligation of the arcade vessels of the proximal jejunum, the intestinal mucosa was investigated by light microscopic and autoradiographic methods after 15, 30, 60, 120 and 300 min of ischemia. Early ischemic damage to the mucosa (after about 15 min) is characterized by shedding of not yet irreversibly damaged enterocytes from the tips of the villi into the intestinal lumen and bleb formation starting at the base of the epithelia. This process advances from the tips to the bases of the villi with increasing duration of ischemia, and the villi are completely denuded of epithelium after ischemia lasting 2 h. AbstractData demonstrate exactly that testosterone favour above all the killing behaviour of castrate males at birth in comparison with control males while ciproterone acetate turns out to be more effective in diminishing the killing behaviour of males having integral testicle and of androgenized females at birth in comparison with castrated males.The results point out that the killing behaviour of rats is affected by the presence of testosterone in the first days of life, and in the grown-up animal.

Determination of Qβ values from endpoint energies of beta spectra

Abstract A plastic scintillator telescope is described for determining beta endpoint energies up to 15 MeV. The response function of the telescope was measured using monoenergetic electrons from a betatron. A nonlinear procedure for unfolding the measured beta spectra on the basis of the experimental response function was tested successfully.

Abstract Photoelectron spectra of Group VIA metal complexes M(CO) 3 (η 6 -C 7 H 8 ) have been assigned using experimental criteria along with quantum-mechanical calculations. A general agreement between computed and measured ionization energies has been found for molecular orbitas mainly ligand in character. Similar correlations do not hold for the highest orbitals, mainly metal d based. The energies associated with ionization processes are, in this case, largely dominated by the relaxation terms. Mouse mastocytoma cells (P 815) formed rosettes with normal mouse spleen lymphocytes which had been coated with uncleaved human C 3; this interaction was clearly dependent on the amount of C 3. Lymphocytes treated with C 3 b or buffer alone were ineffective. Formation of cell contact could be inhibited by the presence of protease inhibitors such as diisopropyl fluorophosphate, phenyl methyl sulfonyl fluoride and tosyllysyl chloromethyl ketone. Seve n out of 13 different cell lines behaved like P 815 cells. The activities of alpha-glucan-phosphorylase and phosphoglucomutase and the concentration of glycogen were measured in the liver of pregnant and non-pregnant rats. There were no significant differences between normal non-pregnant and pregnant animals nor was there any change of enzyme activities during pregnancy. Our results lend support to the idea that glycogen metabolism is not changed during normal pregnancy.
