Abstract Present phosphorus (P) recovery technologies mainly contain P recovery from sludge liquor or ash. These types of technologies are suitable for large wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) with enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR), digestion and/or incineration. In Finland and other Nordic countries, strict P discharge limits require chemical precipitation, thus EBPR alone is not sufficient. Ammonium recovery from wastewater, on the other hand, is not so often discussed. Electric-field-controlled reversible order-disorder switching of a metal tip surface

While it is well established that elevated temperatures can induce surface roughening of metal surfaces, the effect of a high electric field on the atomic structure at ambient temperature has not been investigated in detail. Here we show with atomic resolution using in situ transmission electron microscopy how intense electric fields induce reversible switching between perfect crystalline and disordered phases of gold surfaces at room temperature. Ab initio molecular dynamics simulations reveal that the mechanism behind the structural change can be attributed to a vanishing energy cost in forming surface defects in high electric fields. Adolescents’ and mothers’ temperament types and their roles in early adolescents’ socioemotional functioning

The present study examined adolescents’ and mothers’ temperament types and their roles in the socioemotional functioning of early adolescents. A total of 869 sixth-grade students and 668 mothers participated in the study. The students rated their temperament and socioemotional functioning and the mothers rated their own temperament. Latent profile analyses identified four temperament types among the adolescents (resilient, reserved, average, and mixed) and three types among the mothers (resilient, average, and mixed). Condensation of brominated ethyl acetoacetate with thiourea gives 2‐amino‐5‐ethoxycarbonyl‐4‐methylthiazole (1) and ethyl α‐(2‐amino‐4‐thiazolyl)acetate (2), indicating that bromination of the substrate occurs on both sides of the carbonyl group. X‐ray diffraction studies indicate weak hydrogen bonds of the amino groups, which are not observed in the IR spectra. The 1 molecule adopts planar S,O‐anti conformation in the crystal lattice, whereas the methylene group, insulating thiazole ring and the ester group in 2 molecule, makes it more flexible and makes the ester group nearly perpendicular to the thiazole ring. Production of π0 and η mesons in Cu+Au collisions at √sNN = 200 GeV

Production of π0 and η mesons has been measured at midrapidity in Cu+Au collisions at √sNN = 200 GeV. Measurements were performed in π0 (η) → γ γ decay channel in the 1(2)-20 GeV/c transverse momentum range. A strong suppression is observed for π0 and η meson production at high transverse momentum in central Cu+Au collisions relative to the p + p results scaled by the number of nucleon-nucleon collisions. In central collisions the suppression is similar to Au + Au with comparable nuclear overlap. The η/π0 ratio measured as a function of transverse momentum is consistent with mT -scaling parametrization down to pT = 2 GeV/c, its asymptotic value is constant and consistent with Au + Au and p …

We have studied optimal sample allocation, associated with small area estimation, when the objective is to obtain as accurate estimates as possible, for the population and for the subpopulations, called as areas here. It is a question of a two-level optimization problem. The basic premise is composed of planned areas, stratified sampling, and small overall sample size predetermined by restricted time and budget resources.
