Electronic structure and energy decomposition analyses as a tool to interpret the redox potential ranking of naphtho-, biphenyl- and biphenylenequino…
2016
By calling on modelling approaches we have performed a comparative study on the redox properties of various naphtho-, biphenyl- and biphenylene-quinone isomers. These different compounds exhibit as a whole a redox potential range between 2.09 and 2.90 V vs. Li+/Li. A specific methodology was used to decrypt the interplay among isomerism, aromaticity and antiaromaticity modifications and the stabilization/destabilization effects due to other molecular components on this key electrochemical feature for electrode materials of batteries. In particular, energy decomposition analysis, within the Quantum Theory of Atoms in Molecules, along with the electron and electron spin population changes upo…
Organoelement derivatives of steroids: Synthesis and structural features of organosilicon, -tin and -lead derivatives of cholesterol and desoxycholic…
1987
Some organo-Main-Group-IV-element compounds of steroids of the type R3M(COL), R2Sn(COL)2 and (R3M)2(HDCA) (where R = Me or Ph; M = Si, Sn and Pb; HCOL = cholest-5-en-3β-ol; H3DCA = 3α, 12α-dihydroxy-5β-cholan-24-oic acid), have been synthesized. The structures of these compounds have been investigated by vibrational, mass, NMR (1H, 13C, 29Si, 119Sn and 207Pb) and 119Sn Mossbauer spectroscopy. For Me3Sn(COL) both in solution and in the solid state an associated structure with distorted trigonal bipyramidal geometry around tin and three-coordinated oxygen atoms is postulated. Discrete tetrahedral geometries are assigned to Ph3M(COL) complexes and to R2Sn(COL)2 complexes in solution. The latte…
Diorganotin(IV) Complexes of Methyl 2-{[(E)-8-Oxo-5, 8-dihydroquinolin-5-ylidene]hydrazino}benzoate
2012
Three cis-bis{5-[(E)-2-(2-carbomethoxyphenyl)-1- diazenyl]quinolinolato}-diorganotin(IV), R2Sn(L)2, complexes [R = Me (1), Ph (2) and Bz (3)] were synthesized and characterized by 1H-, 13C-, 119Sn- NMR, IR, and 119Sn Mössbauer spectroscopic techniques in combination with elemental analysis. The structure of diphenyltin(IV) complex Ph2Sn(L)2 (2) was determined by single-crystal X-ray crystallography as its tri-benzene solvate. Each complex was found to adopt a distorted cis-R2 octahedral arrangement around the tin atom with the quinolinolato ligands being N,O-chelating; the oxygen atoms are trans to each other. The complexes retain their solid- state structure in non-coordinating solvents as…
Structure elucidation of the adducts formed by fjord region Dibenzo[a,l]pyrene-11,12-dihydrodiol 13,14-epoxides with deoxyguanosine.
1999
Model adducts to be used in the identification of biologically formed adducts were synthesized by reaction of fjord-region dibenzo[a,l]pyrene 11,12-dihydrodiol 13,14-epoxides (DB[a,l]PDE) and deoxyadenosine (dA). The (+/-)-anti-DB[a,l]PDE was reacted with dA in dimethylformamide at 100 degrees C for 30 min to give four DB[a, l]PDE-14-N(6)dA adducts: (-)-anti-trans (26%), (+)-anti-trans (26%), (-)-anti-cis (17%), and (+)-anti-cis (17%). The (+/-)-syn-DB[a,l]PDE was reacted with dA under the same conditions to yield four DB[a, l]PDE-14-N(6)dA adducts and one N7Ade adduct: (+)-syn-cis (19%), (+)-syn-trans (13%), (-)-syn-cis (19%), (-)-syn-trans (13%), and (+/-)-syn-DB[a,l]PDE-14-N7Ade (22%). T…
Untersuchungen zur Konformerenvielfalt von mono- und 2,5-dialkoxysubstituierten Poly(1,4-phenylenethenylen)en
1994
Investigations on the Conformational Variety of Mono- and 2,5-Dialkoxy Substituted Poly(1,4-phenyleneethenylene)s The alkoxy substituted poly(1,4-phenyleneethenylene)s 1 and 2 can principally exist in an enormous variety of conformers (table 1). However, force field calculations (MMX) reveal a far-reaching restriction to a relatively small number of non planar conformers with minimized steric energy. The decisive criterion is due to the interaction between the oxygen atoms and the olefinic hydrogens. An increasing steric hindrance should lead to higher twist angles θ in the main chain and hence to a shorter effective conjugation length. Such an effect could play a minor role between the uns…

tert-Butoxy radicals were generated by decomposing di-tert-butyl hyponitrite. The relative reactivities of substrates were measured from the ratio of tert-butanol and acetone formed. Polystyrene was found to be less reactive than model compounds. Activation parameters for the hydrogen abstraction reaction for cumene, 3-phenylpentane, and 2,4-diphenylpentane are reported and show small differences for the enthalpy of activation; large negative values for the entropy of activation demonstrate the importance of steric hindrance in the hydrogen abstracting step. 2,3-Diphenylbutane as model compound for head to head links in polystyrene exhibits low reactivity, whereas 2,5-diphenylhexane, a mode…
Activation of the Cyano Group at Imidazole via Copper Stimulated Alcoholysis
2019
Reactions of 4,5-dicyano-1-methylimidazole with CuX2 (X = Cl, Br) in alcohol solvents (ethanol and methanol) resulted in the formation of Cu(II) carboximidate complexes [CuCl2(5- cyano-4-C(OEt)N-1-methylimidazole)(EtOH)] (1), [Cu2(µ
Investigation of Temperature-Induced Phase Transitions in DOPC and DPPC Phospholipid Bilayers Using Temperature-Controlled Scanning Force Microscopy
2004
Under physiological conditions, multicomponent biological membranes undergo structural changes which help define how the membrane functions. An understanding of biomembrane structure-function relations can be based on knowledge of the physical and chemical properties of pure phospholipid bilayers. Here, we have investigated phase transitions in dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) and dioleoylphosphatidylcholine (DOPC) bilayers. We demonstrated the existence of several phase transitions in DPPC and DOPC mica-supported bilayers by both atomic force microscopy imaging and force measurements. Supported DPPC bilayers show a broad L(beta)-L(alpha) transition. In addition to the main transition …
ChemInform Abstract: nBuLi-Mediated Hydrophosphination: A Simple Route to Valuable Organophosphorus Compounds.
2010
A straightforward synthesis of homoallyl- and allylphosphanes has been developed using nBuLi-mediated hydrophosphination of conjugated dienes. In all the cases the phosphorus atom of the reacting phosphane attacked the sterically less demanding side of the diene exclusively. In addition, high regioselectivities towards 1,2- or 1,4-addition products were observed depending on the nature of the dienes. This hydrophosphination reaction was extended to a variety of substrates such as styrene derivatives, alkynes and 1,3,5-cycloheptatriene. The structures of three hydrophosphination products were confirmed by X-ray diffraction studies.
