Influence of the electro-optical properties of an a-Si:H single layer on the performances of a pin solar cell
2012
We analyze the results of an extensive characterization study involving electrical and optical measurements carried out on hydrogenated amorphous silicon (α-Si:H) thin film materials fabricated under a wide range of deposition conditions. By adjusting the synthesis parameters, we evidenced how conductivity, activation energy, electrical transport and optical absorption of an α-Si:H layer can be modified and optimized. We analyzed the activation energy and the pre-exponential factor of the dark conductivity by varying the dopant-to-silane gas flow ratio. Optical measurements allowed to extract the absorption spectra and the optical bandgap. Additionally, we report on the temperature dependen…
Electroluminescence and transport properties in amorphous silicon nanostructures
2006
We report the results of a detailed study on the structural, electrical and optical properties of light emitting devices based on amorphous Si nanostructures. Amorphous nanostructures may constitute an interesting system for the monolithic integration of optical and electrical functions in Si ULSI technology. In fact, they exhibit an intense room temperature electroluminescence (EL), with the advantage of being formed at a temperature of 900 °C, while at least 1100 °C is needed for the formation of Si nanocrystals. Optical and electrical properties of amorphous Si nanocluster devices have been studied in the temperature range between 30 and 300 K. The EL is seen to have a bell-shaped trend …
Short-range order and luminescence in amorphous silicon oxynitride
2000
Abstract Using Si 2p core-level X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, we found that the short-range order in amorphous silicon oxynitride (a-SiOxNy) can be quantitatively described by a random bonding model. Results also show that the second and even further neighbours of the Si in the network affect the chemical shifts of the X-ray photoelectron spectra. Cathodoluminescence and photoluminescence of a-SiOxNy with different compositions are also measured. A red band with energies of 1.8–1.9 eV, a blue band with an energy of 2.7 eV and ultraviolet bands with energies of 13.1, 3.4–3.6, 4.4–4.7 and 5.4eV were observed. The 1.8–1.9 eV band is attributed to the O and N atoms with an unpaired electron…
Cooling of Hot Electrons in Amorphous Silicon
1997
ABSTRACTMeasurements of the cooling rate of hot carriers in amorphous silicon are made with a two-pump, one-probe technique. The experiment is simulated with a rate-equation model describing the energy transfer between a population of hot carriers and the lattice. An energy transfer rate proportional to the temperature difference is found to be consistent with the experimental data while an energy transfer independent of the temperature difference is not. This contrasts with the situation in crystalline silicon. The measured cooling rates are sufficient to explain the difficulty in observing avalanche effects in amorphous silicon.
Changes in the value relevance of goodwill accounting following the adoption of IFRS 3
2014
Abstract This study examines the value relevance effects of changes in goodwill accounting in a European setting. International Financial Reporting Standard (IFRS) 3 replaced accounting rules that emphasized goodwill amortization over short useful lives which kept goodwill balances low. Goodwill accounting under IFRS 3 largely relies on manager fair value estimates of acquired business units. Using Swedish data, we show that goodwill amortizations were not value-relevant prior to the adoption of IFRS 3. However, impairments reported in addition to amortization were significantly related to stock returns during that period. In contrast, under the impairment-only regime prescribed by IFRS 3, …
Implementation of IFRS in Japan: An Analysis of Voluntary Adoption by Listed Firms
2019
Since 2010 Japanese listed firms can voluntarily use international financial reporting standards for their consolidated financial statements. Using financial and non-financial data, we carry out a comprehensive research into the adopters’ determinants. We employ a multi-period logit model that considers every annual decision made along the period 2010-2019. We find that the having outside networks through subsidiaries and a strong internal corporate governance system are key factors. We also confirm a contagion effect. Finally, our results suggest that goodwill is also relevant, since only Japanese accounting standards require annual amortization.
Dynamic 2- and 3-connectivity on planar graphs
1992
We study the problem of maintaining the 2-edge-, 2-vertex-, and 3-edge-connected components of a dynamic planar graph subject to edge deletions. The 2-edge-connected components can be maintained in a total of O(n log n) time under any sequence of at most O(n) deletions. This gives O(log n) amortized time per deletion. The 2-vertex- and 3-edge-connected components can be maintained in a total of O(n log2n) time. This gives O(log2n) amortized time per deletion. The space required by all our data structures is O(n).
On Combinatorial Generation of Prefix Normal Words
2014
A prefix normal word is a binary word with the property that no substring has more 1s than the prefix of the same length. This class of words is important in the context of binary jumbled pattern matching. In this paper we present an efficient algorithm for exhaustively listing the prefix normal words with a fixed length. The algorithm is based on the fact that the language of prefix normal words is a bubble language, a class of binary languages with the property that, for any word w in the language, exchanging the first occurrence of 01 by 10 in w results in another word in the language. We prove that each prefix normal word is produced in O(n) amortized time, and conjecture, based on expe…
Immobilization of functionalized lipids in a random poly(methacrylate) copolymer monolayer
1995
It is shown that a monolayer of random poly(methacrylate) copolymer with a hydrophobic and a hydrophilic substituent exhibits a transition from the fluid to amorphous state. Above this transition any amphiphilic molecules mixed with the monolayer are immobile. Furthermore, such functionalized lipids are immobilized in the monolayer during the Langmuir-Blodgett transfer. The hydrophilic head-groups of the biotin-lipids remain on the formerly water-adjacent side of the monolayer, even if this side is exposed to air
Glass-forming derivatives of 2-cyano-2-(4H-pyran-4-ylidene) acetate for light-amplification systems
2019
Abstract A series of 2-cyano-2-(4H-pyran-4-ylidene) acetate derivatives with triphenyl and 9H-carbazole moieties were synthesized and investigated, mostly for potential applications in organic solid state lasers. Synthesized compounds show remarkable amorphous film formation ability, tunable thermal properties (thermal stability varies from 190 °C to 387 °C and glass transition temperature from 94 °C up to 141 °C) with light absorption from 400 nm to 600 nm and photoluminescence from 600 nm up to 800 nm. Dyes with incorporated mono-styryl- electron donating fragment (KTB, KTBC and KTB3K) showed higher photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) (from 16% up to 23%), significantly lower amplified…
