Chemical constituents of the root wood of Erythrina sacleuxii and determination of the absolute configuration of suberectin

Phytochemical investigation on the root wood of Erythrina sacleuxii (Leguminosae) led to the isolation of nine secondary metabolites (1-9). Compound 1 was isolated from the genus Erythrina for the first time. The pure compounds were identified on the basis of comprehensive spectroscopic and spectrometric analyses, while their absolute configurations were determined based on chiroptical measurements. Compounds 5 and 6 showed weak antifungal activity against Pyricularia oryzae with MIC values of 20 µg/mL.

Anti-inflammatory activity of erycristagallin, a pterocarpene from Erythrina mildbraedii.

Erycristagallin, a pterocarpene isolated from Erythrina mildbraedii, was tested in vitro for its antioxidant properties on the stable 2,2-diphenyl-1-pycryl-hydrazyl (DPPH) free radical and on the arachidonic acid metabolism. In addition, erycristagallin was tested on different experimental models of inflammation, such as the acute and chronic inflammation induced by the application of 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol 13-acetate (TPA) on mice and the phospholipase A(2)-induced mouse paw oedema test. Flavonoids from Erythrina schliebenii

Prenylated and O-methylflavonoids including one new pterocarpan (1), three new isoflavones (2–4), and nineteen known natural products (5–23) were isolated and identified from the root, stem bark, and leaf extracts of Erythrina schliebenii. The crude extracts and their constituents were evaluated for antitubercular activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis (H37Rv strain), showing MICs of 32–64 μg mL–1 and 36.9–101.8 μM, respectively. Evaluation of their toxicity against the aggressive human breast cancer cell line MDA-MB-231 indicated EC50 values of 13.0–290.6 μM (pure compounds) and 38.3 to >100 μg mL–1 (crude extracts).
Erysacleuxins C and D, new isoflavones from the twigs of Erythrina sacleuxii Hua and their cytotoxic activity

Two previously undescribed isoflavones, erysacleuxin C (1) and erysacleuxin D (2), together with seven known compounds (3–9), were isolated and identified from the EtOAc extract of the twigs of Erythrina sacleuxii Hua (Leguminosae). The structures of the isolated compounds were determined on the basis of their spectroscopic and spectrometric data. Evaluation of their cytotoxicity against the human cancer HeLa-S3 cell lines indicated IC50 values of 130.4, 54.9 and 73.9 µM for erysacleuxin C (1), erysacleuxin D (2) and butin (9), respectively. Abstract Two new prenylated isoflavones, named erysacleuxin A (1) and B (2), along with eight known compounds, biochanin A (3), 5′-(3-methylbut-2-enyl)pratensein (4), 7-demethylrobustigenin (5), 3′-(3-methylbut-2-enyl)biochanin A (6) abyssinone V-4′-methyl ether (7), sigmoidin E (8), erythrinasinate (9), and burtinone (10) were isolated from the stem bark of Erythrina sacleuxii Hua (Leguminosae). Unprecedented new nonadecylpara-hydroperoxycinnamate isolated fromErythrina excelsaand its cytotoxic activity

A new unprecedented cinnamate derivative (1) was obtained from Erythrina excelsa (Leguminosae) and identified as nonadecyl para-hydroperoxycinnamate. This compound was isolated together with three known compounds, namely lupeol (2), mixture of sitosterol and stigmasterol (3), and isoneorautenol (4). Their structures were established on the basis of NMR and mass spectroscopic data in conjunction with those reported in the literature. Compound 1 was evaluated for its capability of inhibiting cancer cell lines and growth of a panel of microbial strains. It turned out that 1 is moderately to significantly cytotoxic against six cancer cell lines and shows weak to no antimicrobial activity.

Naturally occuring isoflavonoids possess a variety of biological activities including anti-cancer effects.
