O-Alkylation of a lignite humic acid by phase-transfer catalysis
2006
A mild phase-transfer catalytic reaction has been conducted to O-alkylate the acidic functions of a lignite humic acid (HA), using tetrabutylammonium hydroxide as the phase-transfer catalyst. The HA acidic functional groups were made to react, in tetrahydrofuran, by nucleophilic substitution with several alkyl halides-methyl iodide, and ethyl, propyl, and butyl, and benzyl bromide. The occurrence of the O-alkylation reaction was assessed by elemental analysis and 1H NMR, CPMAS 13C NMR, and FTIR spectroscopy. Bonding of alkyl groups increased the carbon and hydrogen content and the H/C ratios of all the humic reaction products. Increased nitrogen in the reaction products suggested incomplete…
Stereoselective Synthesis of β-1-O-Acyl Derivatives of Carbohydrates: An Application of the Cesium Effect.
1992
Abstract The stereoselective formation of anomerically pure 1-O-acyl derivatives of protected carbohydrates is achieved by reaction of the α-glycosyl halogenoses with cesium caboxylates.
ChemInform Abstract: Glycoside Synthesis via Electrophile-Induced Activation of N-Allyl Carbamates.
2010
Abstract O-Benzyl-, O-acyl-, N-acyl- and isopropylidene-protected glycosyl N-allylcarbamates, obtained from anomerically unprotected monosaccharides and allyl isocyanate, are activated by an electrophile-induced cyclisation and react with hydroxyl compounds to form the corresponding glycosides.
Regulatory activity of polyunsaturated fatty acids in T-cell signaling.
2009
n-3 Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) are considered to be authentic immunosuppressors and appear to exert beneficial effects with respect to certain immune-mediated diseases. In addition to promoting T-helper 1 (Th1) cell to T-helper 2 (Th2) cell effector T-cell differentiation, n-3 PUFA may also exert anti-inflammatory actions by inducing apoptosis in Th1 cells. With respect to mechanisms of action, effects range from the modulation of membrane receptors to gene transcription via perturbation of a number of second messenger cascades. In this review, the putative targets of anti-inflammatory n-3 PUFA, activated during early and late events of T-cell activation will be discussed. Studies h…
ChemInform Abstract: Microwave-Assisted Tandem Organocatalytic Peptide-Coupling Intramolecular aza-Michael Reaction: α,β-Unsaturated N-Acyl Pyrazoles…
2015
Conjugated N-acyl pyrazoles are successfully employed in the organocatalytic enantioselective intramolecular aza-Michael reaction as ester surrogates.
Heat capacities of butanol and pentanol in aqueous dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide solutions
1987
Heat capacities of the ternary systems water-dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB)-butanol and water-DTAB-pentanol were measured at 25°C. The standard partial molar heat capacities of pentanol in micellar solutions show a maximum at about 0.35 mol-kg−1 DTAB that has been attributed to a micellar structural transition. This maximum tends to vanish by increasing the alcohol concentration and by decreasing the alcohol alkyl chain length; in the case of butanol it was not detected. The behavior of the standard partial molar heat capacities of alcohols in micellar solutions in the region above the cmc and below the structural transition was explained using a previously reported mass-action mod…
Quantitative separation of Trichoderma lipid classes on a bonded phase column.
1992
Bond Elut aminopropyl columns were used to purify the different lipid classes of Trichoderma harzianum and Trichoderma viride. This methodology permitted good separation of the fungal lipid classes in less time than traditional techniques. The incorporation of [1 (14)C]linoleic acid into neutral lipids, free fatty acids and phospholipids was quantified for both strains. The fatty acid profile of the different lipid classes of these fungal strains was determined as a function of culture time.
Synthetic Glycopeptides of the Tandem Repeat Sequence of the Epithelial Mucin MUC4 with Tumour-associated Carbohydrate Antigens
2004
Glycohexadecapeptides representing the tandem repeat sequence of the epithelial mucin MUC4 were prepared by applying a solid-phase methodology. The required glycosyl amino acid building blocks containing the tumour-associated saccharide antigens T N -, T,- sialyl-T N , (2,6)- and (2,3)-sialyl-T were synthesized according to a straightforward biomimetic strategy by stepwise extension of the saccharide side chain of a Fmoc-protected galactosamine threonine tert-butyl ester.
Unsaturated fatty acid bioavailability in growing rats fed low or adequate protein diets with sunflower or soybean oils
1993
Abstract The relationship of serum very low density lipoproteins (VLDL) to hepatic lipid composition was studied after 28 days of protein depletion to determine the interactions between dietary protein levels and the essential fatty acid (EFA) availability. This was examined in rats using a dietary combination of 20% or 2% casein with 5% vegetable oils, variable in their n-6:n-3 fatty acid ratios. Rats were divided into four groups, SFC (20% casein + 5% sunflower oil ); SFd (2% casein + 5% sunflower oil ); SC (20% casein + 5% soybean oil ); Sd (2% casein + 5% soybean oil ). Dietary protein depletion decreased phospholipid and protein concentrations in liver and VLDL, whereas triacylglycerol…
On the problematic nature of vitamin E requirements: net vitamin E
1991
The requirement for vitamin E is closely related to the dietary intake of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA). By the protective mechanism to prevent PUFA from being peroxidized, vitamin E is metabolically consumed. In addition, PUFA impair the intestinal absorption of vitamin E. Therefore PUFA generate an additional vitamin E requirement on the order of 0.6, 0.9, 1.2, 1.5, and 1.8 mg vitamin E (RRR-alpha-tocopherol-equivalents), respectively, for 1 g of dienoic, trienoic, tetraenoic, pentaenoic, and hexaenoic acid. For this reason, the gross vitamin E content of food containing PUFA does not allow an evaluation of this food as a source of vitamin E. A suitable measure is the net vitamin E c…
