Variation of proteomic profile during lactation in Girgentana goat milk: a preliminary study

The knowledge of milk proteome has been greatly enhanced by technological advances in the proteomics field as the use of the two-dimensional differential in-gel electrophoresis, a gel-based approach which allowed the analysis of proteins from complex mixtures and the comparing of several protein samples in the same experiment. Native-state pea albumin and globulin behavior upon transglutaminase treatment

International audience; The behavior of pea albumin (Alb) and globulin (Glob) in their native state upon microbial transglutaminase (MTGase) treatment was studied. Only Glob was able to form a gel, at up to a 10% (w/w) concentration, with a minimum gelling concentration of 6% (w/w), and with a cross-linking degree of 25%. The most affected Glob subunits were convicilin (71 kDa), vicilins (55, 50, and 35 kDa), and legumin acidic subunit (40 kDa). In contrast, the legumin basic subunit (20 kDa) and vicilins of molecular weight less than 20 kDa remained mostly intact in all studied conditions. Analysis of composition, morphology, and biosynthesis of cuticular wax in wild type bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus L.) and its glossy mutant

Abstract In this study, cuticular wax load, its chemical composition, and biosynthesis, was studied during development of wild type (WT) bilberry fruit and its natural glossy type (GT) mutant. GT fruit cuticular wax load was comparable with WT fruits. In both, the proportion of triterpenoids decreased during fruit development concomitant with increasing proportions of total aliphatic compounds. In GT fruit, a higher proportion of triterpenoids in cuticular wax was accompanied by a lower proportion of fatty acids and ketones compared to WT fruit as well as lower density of crystalloid structures on berry surfaces. Abstract The physicochemical properties, biological functions and microbial degradation of inulins differ according to their degree of polymerization. However, the relationship between inulin activities and its effect on gut microbiota remains unknown. In this study, high fat diet with inulin (1 or 5 g/kg·bw), either with short or long chains groups were administered to different groups of mice (n = 10) for 10 weeks in order to investigate the effect of inulin on the microbial diversity of the animals. Wetting properties at the surface of iota-carrageenan-based edible films

International audience; Surface properties of edible films composed of a polymeric matrix of carrageenan in association with hydrophobic material were studied by contact angle measurements. The use of this technique not only in a static mode but also in a dynamic way enables investigation of surface hydrophobicity as well as surface wettability. Abstract The direction of the transformation of Fe-bearing minerals under harshly changing redox conditions is still under debate. Some studies suggest preferential accumulation of weakly crystalline Fe oxides while other studies showed that repeated redox cycles favour the presence of crystalline phases. Stakeholders' Perceptions about Fire Impacts on Lithuanian Protected Areas

The aim of this work is to study Lithuanian stakeholders' perceptions of fire impacts in protected areas. For this study, the stakeholders consisted of foresters, ecologists and farmers. A clear understanding of the opinions of stakeholders about fire effects on environmental, social and economic aspects of Lithuanian protected areas will allow an assessment of the stakeholders' reaction to fire policy, including government measures towards fire prevention, suppression and application of prescribed fire to landscape management. Response of soil bacteria to Hg (II) in relation to soil characteristics and cell location

The response of indigenous bacterial communities to the addition of inorganic mercury (50 μM of Hg(II)) was compared over a 30 day period in four soils of contrasting properties. Hg(II) impact was estimated by following population dynamics of viable heterotrophic bacteria (VH) and mercury resistant bacteria (HgR) by indirect enumeration in unfractionated soil and in the inner and outer parts of soil aggregates obtained by successive washings.
