Self‐Assembly and Characterisation of Grid‐Type Iron( II ), Cobalt( II ) and Zinc( II ) Complexes

2003

The reaction of the ligands 5 and 6, containing two tridentate binding units, with iron(II), cobalt(II) and zinc(II) leads to the self-assembly of supramolecular architectures of [2 × 2] grid type containing four ions in octahedral coordination sites. The grid-type structures have been assigned on the basis of the spectroscopic data in solution, and confirmed in the solid state in the case of complexes 6b and 6c by X-ray crystallography. The latter study revealed that each metal ion is situated in a distorted octahedral coordination environment comprising two N,N,O ligand donor sets. (© Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Effects of Remote Ligand Substituents on the Structures, Spectroscopic, and Magnetic Properties of Two-Coordinate Transition-Metal Thiolate Complexes

2018

The first-row transition-metal(II) dithiolates M(SAriPr4)2 [AriPr4 = C6H3-2,6-(C6H3-2,6-iPr2)2; M = Cr (1), Mn (3), Fe (4), Co (5), Ni (6), and Zn (7)] and Cr(SArMe6)2 [2; ArMe6 = C6H3-2,6-(C6H2-2,4,6-Me3)2] and the ligand-transfer reagent (NaSAriPr4)2 (8) are described. In contrast to their M(SAriPr6)2 (M = Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, and Zn; AriPr6 = C6H3-2,6-(C6H2-2,4,6-iPr3)2) congeners, which differ from 1 and 3-6 in having p-isopropyl groups on the flanking aryl rings of the terphenyl substituents, compounds 1 and 4-6 display highly bent coordination geometries with S-M-S angles of 109.802(2)° (1), 120.2828(3)° (4), 91.730(3)° (5), and 92.68(2)° (6) as well as relatively close metal-flanking …

Electrochemical meso-functionalization of magnesium(II) porphine

2010

International audience; Regioselective meso-functionalization of the totally unsubstituted magnesium(II) porphine was performed by controlled potential electrolysis with pyridine and triphenylphosphine as nucleophiles leading to the original pyridinium and phosphonium substituted derivatives, respectively. The crystallographic structure of the latter is described as the only meso-phosphonium porphyrin reported to date.

Solid-State Molecular Nanomagnet Inclusion into a Magnetic Metal-Organic Framework: Interplay of the Magnetic Properties.

2015

Single-ion magnets (SIMs) are the smallest possible magnetic devices and are a controllable, bottom-up approach to nanoscale magnetism with potential applications in quantum computing and high-density information storage. In this work, we take advantage of the promising, but yet insufficiently explored, solid-state chemistry of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) to report the single-crystal to single-crystal inclusion of such molecular nanomagnets within the pores of a magnetic MOF. The resulting host-guest supramolecular aggregate is used as a playground in the first in-depth study on the interplay between the internal magnetic field created by the long-range magnetic ordering of the structur…

6-Polyamino-substituted quinolines: synthesis and multiple metal (CuII, HgIIand ZnII) monitoring in aqueous media

2019

Chemoselective palladium-catalyzed arylation of polyamines with 6-bromoquinoline has been explored to prepare chelators for the detection of metal cations in aqueous media. The introduction of a single aromatic moiety into non-protected polyamine molecules was achieved using the commercially available Pd(dba)2/BINAP precatalyst to afford nitrogen chelators, in which the aromatic signalling unit is directly attached to the polyamine residue. Water-soluble receptors were then synthesized using N-alkylation of these polyamines by hydrophilic coordinating residues. By combining rich photophysical properties of the 6-aminoquinoline unit with a high coordination affinity of chelating polyamines a…

Enantioselective synthesis of chiral oxazolines from unactivated ketones and isocyanoacetate esters by synergistic silver/organocatalysis

2018

[EN] A multicatalytic approach that combines a bifunctional Brønsted base¿squaramide organocatalyst and Ag+ as Lewis acid has been applied in the reaction of unactivated ketones with tert-butyl isocyanoacetate to give chiral oxazolines bearing a quaternary stereocenter. The formal [3+2] cycloaddition provided high yields of the corresponding cis-oxazolines with good diastereoselectivity and excellent enantioselectivity, being applied to aryl¿alkyl and alkyl¿alkyl ketones.

Light Induced C-C Coupling of 2-Chlorobenzazoles with Carbamates, Alcohols, and Ethers.

2016

A light induced, transition-metal-free C-C coupling reaction of 2-chlorobenzazoles with aliphatic carbamates, alcohols, and ethers is presented. Inexpensive reagents, namely sodium acetate, benzophenone, water, and acetonitrile, are employed in a simple reaction protocol using a cheap and widely available 25 W energy saving UV-A lamp at ambient temperature.

Metal- and Reagent-Free Anodic C−C Cross-Coupling of Phenols with Benzofurans leading to a Furan Metathesis

2018

Heterobiaryls consisting of a phenol and a benzofuran motif are of significant importance for pharmaceutical applications. An attractive sustainable, metal- and reagent-free, electrosynthetic, and highly efficient method, that allows access to (2-hydroxyphenyl)benzofurans is presented. Upon the electrochemical dehydrogenative C-C cross-coupling reaction, a metathesis of the benzo moiety at the benzofuran occurs. This gives rise to a substitution pattern at the hydroxyphenyl moiety which would not be compatible by a direct coupling process. The single-step protocol is easy to conduct in an undivided electrolysis cell, therefore scalable, and inherently safe.

Alkali Blues: Blue‐Emissive Alkali Metal Pyrrolates

2019

2-Iminopyrroles [HtBu L, 4-tert-butyl phenyl(pyrrol-2-ylmethylene)amine] are non-fluorescent π systems. However, they display blue fluorescence after deprotonation with alkali metal bases in the solid state and in solution at room temperature. In the solid state, the alkali metal 2-imino pyrrolates, M(tBu L), aggregate to dimers, [M(tBu L)(NCR)]2 (M=Li, R=CH3 , CH(CH3 )CNH2 ), or polymers, [M(tBu L)]n (M=Na, K). In solution (solv=CH3 CN, DMSO, THF, and toluene), solvated, uncharged monomeric species M(tBu L)(solv)m with N,N'-chelated alkali metal ions are present. Due to the electron-rich pyrrolate and the electron-poor arylimino moiety, the M(tBu L) chromophore possesses a low-energy intra…

Size‐Selective Encapsulation of Hydrophobic Guests by Self‐Assembled M 4 L 6 Cobalt and Nickel Cages

2012

Subtle differences in metal-ligand bond lengths between a series of [M(4)L(6)](4-) tetrahedral cages, where M = Fe(II), Co(II), or Ni(II), were observed to result in substantial differences in affinity for hydrophobic guests in water. Changing the metal ion from iron(II) to cobalt(II) or nickel(II) increases the size of the interior cavity of the cage and allows encapsulation of larger guest molecules. NMR spectroscopy was used to study the recognition properties of the iron(II) and cobalt(II) cages towards small hydrophobic guests in water, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction was used to study the solid-state complexes of the iron(II) and nickel(II) cages.
