Evidence on the effectiveness of occupational health interventions.
2006
Background At present there exists no overview of the range of evidence currently available regarding the effectiveness of occupational health interventions (OHI). Methods Articles published in 2000 and 2001 in 16 general and specialized biomedical journals were searched for evaluations of OHI studies. Results Out of 8,687 articles searched there were 148 OHI studies. In 21% of the studies the study design was a randomized controlled trial, in 28% it was a controlled trial, an interrupted time-series in 7% and a different design in 44%.
Creating Franchised Businesses Through Franchisee Training Program — Empirical Evidence from a Follow-up Study
2007
The Finnish franchisee training program was a unique training program since it was government financed and provided to prospective franchisees by a third party. The organizing parties were the Finnish Employment and Economic Development Centres and a private consultation company specialized in franchising. The training program aimed to find people interested in becoming franchisees and to give them the essential skills and knowledge a franchisee needs.
Corticosteroid-free immunosuppression in liver transplantation: a meta-analysis and meta-regression of outcomes.
2009
To examine the impact of steroid withdrawal from the immunosuppression protocols in liver transplantation. The electronic databases Medline, Embase, Pubmed and the Cochrane Library were searched. Meta-analysis pooled the effects of outcomes of a total of 2590 patients enrolled into 21 randomized controlled trials (RCTs), using classic and modern meta-analytic methods. Meta-analysis of RCTs addressing patients transplanted for any indication showed no differences between corticosteroid-free immunosuppression and steroid-based protocols in most of the analyzed outcomes. More importantly, steroid-free cohorts appeared to benefit in terms of de novo diabetes mellitus development [R.R = 1.86 (1.…
Positionspapier: Diagnostik und Therapie der Xerosis cutis.
2018
Evidence-Based Assessment (EBA) in Psychiatrie, Klinischer Psychologie und Psychotherapie
2018
2011
Proton pump inhibitors (PPI) are one of the most widely used groups of drugs and their potential toxicity is periodically reviewed, emphasizing aspects originally considered secondary. The present review analyzes the physiological and pharmacological bases and the scarce clinical evidence for a potential association between the continued administration of PPI and the development of osteoporosis and bone fractures. Both disorders are clearly related to calcium homeostasis and are highly important in elderly patients due to their poor general prognosis and disabling consequences.
[Evidence-based emergency medicine].
1999
Can we prevent incontinence?: ICI-RS 2011
2012
Aims A review of the current state of research with regard to prevention of incontinence. Methods The search was limited to English language publications on the topic of incontinence prevention. Results Incontinence is associated with a range of risk factors, most of which are modifiable. Lifestyle changes with behavioral modifications that can prevent urinary incontinence (UI) need to be adopted from an early phase of life. Pregnancy per se for the woman, independent of labor and delivery practice, is a risk factor for UI. The influence of estrogen is still under discussion as to its direct influence to UI. For both men and women, there is a correlation between pelvic-floor related surgery…
On the relation between present and future tense in Lithuanian: Preliminary considerations in the domain of non-deictic tense use
2021
The article examines non-deictic uses of present and future tense in Lithuanian. Narrative use, in which reference intervals match with singular events, is distinguished from suspended propositions characterized by lack of such reference intervals (habitual, dispositional and circumstantial modal, and conditional meanings). Present tense is frequently involved in both usage domains, while the future is rare in narrative use, but overlaps with present tense in certain types of suspended propositions. Moreover, its temporal-deictic use is inherently associated with suspended propositions and “linked” to them via epistemic implicatures. This, in contrast to the present, makes the future more l…
