Nanotechnologies and Radiation Processes : Online meeting (Riga, 3–4 February 2022)

The Institute of Chemical Physics of the University of Latvia held an online conference session “Nanotechnologies and Radiation Processes” on the 3rd and the 4th of February of 2022. The session was organised within the framework of the 80th International Scientific Conference of the University of Latvia. The Book of Abstracts of the session focuses on such topics as energy harvesting, storage processes, development of functional materials, radiation processes in solids, growth, and fundamental studies of topological insulator nanostructures.

This work focused on the extraction, quantification, and characterization of bioactive compounds of Arbutus unedo L. fruits, comparing the results obtained from the different ripening states. Extractions were performed by different methods (such as maceration extraction and ultrasonic extraction) and food grade solvents (aqueous and hydroalcoholic solvents) in each of the all ripening states (four states considered, associated with four different colors, i.e., green, yellow, orange, and red). Negli ultimi anni l’Europa ha dovuto affrontare le conseguenze di una crescente propaganda estremista, radicale e terroristica, che sempre più spesso trova spazio nei social media. Il contributo descrive il progetto COMMIT (COMMunIcation campaign against exTremism and radicalisation) che ha sviluppato, tra il 2020 e il 2022, una serie di attività di ricerca e di intervento con l’obiettivo, da un lato, di mappare il fenomeno della radicalizzazione online nei quattro Paesi partner (Italia, Grecia, Austria e Paesi Bassi) e individuare le caratteristiche dei gruppi più vulnerabili, dall’altro, di sviluppare le competenze di media literacy e di advocacy dei giovani destinatari del progetto.
Using Talking Books to Support Early Reading Development

This chapter explores the question of how interactive multimedia talking books can promote young children’s literacy development. Whilst commercially available talking books can motivate young children to read, there is little evidence that they are linked to the development of skills known to promote reading itself. The ‘Bangers and Mash’ talking books (Chera, 2000), were designed to address this issue, and we review studies that evaluated their effectiveness as classroom resources that could promote reading-related skills and abilities. One of the key targets for an efficient transport network management is the search for proper maintenance policies to guarantee acceptable safety and quality standards in the travel and to optimize available resource allocation. AbstractUnder the Directive 2012/34/EU (21 November 2012) “the charges for … [rail] infrastructure … shall be set at the cost that is directly incurred as a result of operating the train service”. This charging rule is new for Baltic States’ railways, where due to the favorable geographic position a full cost application without detalization was possible.
