Graphic Medicine as a Didactic Tool for Training Medical Translators: a comparative analysis in French and Spanish

The use of comics to communicate health-related topics has aroused growing interest in their translation from English, as well as from other languagessuch as French. Acknowledging the twofold challenge posed by a medium and a language combination that have seldom been explored in medical translation training, we will compare and contrast the Spanish translation of the French comic L’incroyable histoire de la médecine to make a didactic contribution to the training of medical translators. We will study the iconographic and textual codes present in the comic before presenting a proposal for its use in educational settings.

Kansainväliset arviointitutkimukset edellyttävät laajaa käännöstyötä, koska kaikki koemateriaalit on käännettävä kunkin osallistujamaan kielille. Kaikkien erikielisten koeversioiden on lisäksi oltava keskenään vertailukelpoisia, jotta tutkimustulokset olisivat valideja. Niepowtarzalny charakter hermetycznego świata powieści Piaseckiego odzwierciedla się głównie w szczególnej formie języka, którym posługują się protagoniści powieści. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest odpowiedź na pytanie, jak ten wyjątkowy, czasem wulgarny i przede wszystkim nad wyraz emocjonalny wariant języka został przetłumaczony na język niemiecki. Po prezentacji szczególnych właściwości leksykalnych tekstu wyjściowego przedstawiono oraz skomentowano wybrane rozwiązania tłumaczeniowe.

Darbā “Franču daiļliteratūras tulkojumi latviešu grāmatniecībā no 2001. gada” ir apkopota un analizēta informācija par franču daiļliteratūras tulkojumiem latviešu valodā, kas iznākuši laika posmā no 2001. gada. Līdz šim nav veikti citi pētījumi par šo tematu, kas aplūkotu 21. gadsimtā izdotos tulkojumus. Šajā pētījumā daiļliteratūras darbu nosaukumi analizēti gan vēsturiski, gan kontekstā ar mūsdienu situāciju Latvijas grāmatniecībā. Lai būtu iespējams iegūt statistiskus datus par publicētajiem tulkojumiem, pētījuma veidošanas gaitā sastādīta un iekļauta kopš 2001. gada latviešu valodā iznākušās franču daiļliteratūras bibliogrāfija.
Gramatiskās transformācijas Oskara Vailda pasaku tulkojumos krievu valodā

Bakalaura darbs ir izstrādāts, lai apzinātu gramatiskās pārmaiņas Oskara Vailda pasaku tulkojumiem uz krievu valodu. Tēma tika izvēlēta, jo pēdējā laikā, analizējot daiļliteratūras prozu tulkojumus no angļu valodas uz krievu valodu, mēs saskaramies ar daudzām nesakritībām, jo īpaši gramatikā. Šīs tēmas izvēli noteica nepieciešamība analizēt tieši šī žanra tulkojumus, kā arī konkrētā autora stilu. Gramatisko pārvērtību salīdzinošā analīze, kura tiek izmantota daiļliteratūras tulkošanā no angļu uz krievu valodu, šobrīd ir ļoti būtiska valodas apguvei, īpaši pasaku žanram. Rezultāts ir pierādīt, ka ar gramatisko pārmaiņu palīdzību, tulkotājs autentiski pauž tulkotā teksta nozīmi.

Darba mērķis: noskaidrot, vai, apzinot galvenās problēmas, kas rodas tulkojot tekstu ne dzimtajā valodā, iespējams sasniegt kvalitatīvāku rezultātu. Darbā tiek definēts dzimtās valodas jēdziens, apskatīts dzimtās valodas princips, precizēti galvenie pretargumenti tulkošanai ne dzimtajā valodā, noskaidroti iemesli, kāpēc cilvēki tulko svešvalodās un uzskaitīti galvenie teksta rediģēšanas pamatprincipi. The article traces the evolution of the publishing practice in the field of translations undertaken by Alberto Mondadori after the Second World War. Through some letters of the publisher to his collaborators, the analysis highlights the nature of his choices, which were often motivated not only by the desire to publish complete works, but also by personal and political reasons, such as the desire of self‑affirmation, to introduce himself as a “new publisher in a new era”, in clear antithesis with the past.

The article focuses on the German Civil Code and its translations into Polish. After it came into force in 1900, the Civil Code was also binding in the western parts of contemporary Poland until it was repealed by a unified Polish Civil Code after the Second World War. Selected usual word combinations in the German civil law have been analysed, in order to check whether their Polish counterparts are still usual in the Polish legal language. Therefore the article deals with a question which according to Lombardi’s opinion (2007: 119) is a desideratum research.

Based on the self-determination theory (SDT: Ryan & Deci, 2002), which is one of the most important frameworks in explaining motivation, students need to be emotionally satisfied in order to put effort towards a certain goal. Linguistic, Contextual, and Experiential Equivalence Issues in the Adaptation of a Performance-Based Assessment of Generic Skills in Higher Education

This qualitative study investigated the various linguistic, contextual, and experiential equivalence issues embedded in a performance-based instrument aimed at assessing generic skills in higher education. A rigorous translation and adaptation process (American English to Finnish) was conducted on one instrument, namely Collegiate Learning Assessment (CLA+) International. The data were obtained from cognitive laboratories (n = 13), with think-alouds and follow-up interviews conducted among Finnish undergraduate students.
