An analysis of the scientific productivity and visibility of publications on usability (1971-2005)

Aims: To analyse usability-related articles published in the period 1971-2005 from a bibliometric point of view. Methods: A search for articles was made in the CSIC databases, the Social Science Citation Index, Science Citation Index, PsycInfo, MEDLINE and Inspec databases, using ad hoc search strategies designed for each. Contribution, specific contribution and overlap indices were calculated, as were the indicators of change in scientific production, the productivity of institutions and journals, and the distribution of journals by area of knowledge. Monitoring of inspired oxygen concentration during anesthesia with nitrous oxide is becoming accepted as essential. This type of monitoring demands accurate monitors that respond rapidly. We evaluated two such devices for their response patterns to rapid changes in oxygen concentration, a galvanic or "fuel cell" unit and a polarographic device. Data were stored after analog-to-digital conversion. The response patterns to stepwise changes in nitrous oxide and oxygen mixtures were recorded at flow rates ranging from 2 to 10 L/min. Accessory function allows antigen-presenting cells to produce sufficient secondary signals for optimum T cell proliferation and interleukin-2 (IL-2) production. Alveolar macrophages are inferior accessory cells compared to monocytes (PBM). We report here that the accessory index (AI) of alveolar macrophages and PBM of patients with lung metastases of solid tumors treated with inhalations of human natural IL-2 (hnIL-2) increased following its administration (P0.005). The accessory index was significantly elevated from baseline values after 2 weeks of inhalation of 300,000 IU hnIL-2/day (8.2 +/- 10.2 compared to 1.1 +/- 1; P0.001). Recent preclinical and clinical studies that have demonstrated antitumor activity of high-dose recombinant interleukin-2 (rIL-2), and animal models that demonstrated a synergistic effect of low-dose cyclophosphamide, led us to study rIL-2 (Cetus Corp., Emeryville, Calif) in a phase II clinical trial in combination with low-dose cyclophosphamide in 32 patients, 18 with malignant melanoma and 14 with renal cell carcinoma. rIL-2 was given once daily at 3 x 10(6) U/m2, as a 30-min infusion for 14 days in cycle I and for 2 x 5 days in cycles II and III respectively; if tolerated, the dose was increased to a maximum of 6 x 10(6) U m-2 day-1; the cycles, separated by 1 week treatment-free interval…
