A New Major Triterpene Saponin from the Roots of Cucurbita foetidissima

Foetidissimoside B (1), a novel triterpene saponin, was isolated from the roots of Cucurbita foetidissima. Based on spectroscopic data, especially direct and long-range heteronuclear 2D NMR analysis and on chemical transformations, the structure of 1 was elucidated as 3-O-beta-D-glucuronopyranosyl-echinocystic acid 28-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1-->3)-beta-D-xylopyranosyl(1-->3)-[beta- D-xylopyranosyl (1-->4)]-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1-->2)-alpha-L-arabinopyranoside . Compound 1 did not show any ability to potentiate in vitro cisplatin cytotoxicity in a human colon cancer cell line.

Straightforward Synthesis of Donor‐Stabilised Phosphenium Adducts from Imidazolium‐2‐carboxylate and Their Electronic Properties (Eur. J. Inorg. Chem. 31/2007)

The cover picture shows one of donor-stabilized phosphenium compounds which have been obtained by direct addition of chlorophosphanes to the 1,3-dimethylimidazolium-2-carboxylate without any further purification step. Their stronger κ-acceptor character similar to phosphites and their ionic nature render these ligands very promising in the development of new continuous-flow catalytic processes. Details of phosphorylation mechanisms of imidazolium-2-carboxylate as well as the electronic and steric properties of these adducts are discussed in the article by J. Andrieu et al. on p. 4877 ff.

"Through-space" 31P spin-spin couplings in ferrocenyl tetraphosphine coordination complexes: improvement in the determination of the distance dependence of J(P,P) constants

Abstract From the analysis of several nickel and palladium halide complexes of a constrained ferrocenyl tetraphosphine, the existence in solution phase of unique 31P–31P “through-space” nuclear spin–spin coupling constants (JPP) had been previously evidenced. Due to the blocked conformation of the species in solution, and based on the NMR spectra obtained for the complexes and their corresponding solid state X-ray structures, these JPP constants had been shown to clearly depend on the mutual spatial position of the corresponding phosphorus atoms. Herein, the quantitative correlation disclosed at that time (P⋯P distance dependence of coupling constants) is remarkably confirmed, and mathemati…

Generation, Characterization, and Electrochemical Behavior of the Palladium-Hydride Cluster [Pd3(dppm)3(3-CO)(3-H)]+ (dppm=Bis(diphenylphosphinomethane)

Addition of formate on the dicationic cluster [Pd(3)(dppm)(3)(mu(3)-CO)](2+) (dppm=bis(diphenylphosphinomethane) affords quantitatively the hydride cluster [Pd(3)(dppm)(3)(mu(3)-CO)(mu(3)-H)](+). This new palladium-hydride cluster has been characterised by (1)H NMR, (31)P NMR and UV/Vis spectroscopy and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. The unambiguous identification of the capping hydride was made from (2)H NMR spectroscopy by using DCO(2) (-) as starting material. The mechanism of the hydride complex formation was investigated by UV/Vis stopped-flow methods. The kinetic data are consistent with a two-step process involving: 1) host-guest interactions between HCO(2) (-) and [Pd(3)(dppm)(3)(mu(3…

Synthesis of borylindenides. Complexes with iron and rhenium moieties

Abstract Borylation of lithium indenide with BBrMe 2 gives the allylic 1-indenyl derivative (1-Ind)BMe 2 ( 1c ) together with the bis-allylic connected species (1-Ind) 2 BMe ( 3 ) and with BCl i Pr 2 , the allylic 1-indenyl (1-Ind)B i Pr 2 ( 1d ); the latter, with Et 3 N or Py added, rearranges to the vinylic 3-indenyl isomer (3-Ind)B i Pr 2 ( 2d ). The disubstituted indene C 9 H 6 Ind(SiMe 3 )B(O 2 C 2 Me 4 ) ( 5 ) was prepared from Li[C 9 H 6 B(O 2 C 2 Me 4 )] ( 4b ) and Me 3 SiCl. Both (1-Ind)BMe 2 and (1-Ind)B i Pr 2 readily undergo metalation when treated with LiTMP or LiInd to give pure 1-borylindenides Li(C 9 H 6 BMe 2 ) ( 4c ) and Li(C 9 H 6 B i Pr 2 ) ( 4d ). A barrier to internal …

"Through-space" nuclear spin-spin J(PP) coupling in tetraphosphine ferrocenyl derivatives: a (31)P NMR and X-ray structure correlation study for coordination complexes.

Herein, we report on (31)P(31)P solution-phase "through-space" nuclear spin-spin coupling constants (J(PP)) from a novel family of organometallic tetraphosphine nickel and palladium complexes. These J(PP) constants were accurately determined through NMR iterative simulation based on the second-order spectra obtained for the compounds. The corresponding solid-state X-ray structures of the complexes were determined, and the "through-space" P.P distances are reported. Due to the blocked conformation of the species in solution, a qualitative and semiquantitative experimental correlation is obtained, which links the geometric parameters and the intensity of the corresponding P.P coupling constan…

Straightforward synthesis of donor-stabilised phosphenium adducts from imidazolium-2-carboxylate and their electronic properties

Cationic imidazolium-2-phosphanes were obtained by the addition of a chlorophosphane (R2PCl, R = Ph, iPr or Cy) to 1,3-dimethylimidazolium-2-carboxylate without the need for a purification step. An additional anion exchange reaction with KPF6 led to the corresponding halide-free ligands in excellent yields. The molecular structure of one of them was examined both in the solid state and in solution. The lone pair of electrons on the phosphorus atom is not delocalised to the imidazolium fragment and thus remains available for further metal coordination. As such compounds can be described as phosphenium cations stabilised by a N-heterocarbene donor base, the electronic properties of the Lewis …

New Diosgenin Glycosides from Costus afer

Two new steroidal saponins, aferosides B (1) and C (2), together with the known saponins, dioscin (3) and paryphyllin C (4), were isolated from the roots of Costus afer. The known flavonoid glycoside, kaempferol 3-O-α-l-rhamnopyranoside (5), was obtained from the aerial parts. The structures of the new compounds were elucidated principally by 2D NMR spectral methods. A structural revision of the sugar sequence was made for the previously reported saponin aferoside A (6) on the basis of detailed spectroscopic analysis. Saponins 1−4 and 6 did not show any ability to potentiate in vitro cisplatin cytotoxicity in a human colon cancer cell line.

29Si NMR and Small-Angle X-ray Scattering Studies of the Effect of Alkaline Ions (Li+, Na+, and K+) in Silico-Alkaline Sols

Alkali−silica reactions (ASR) which occur in concrete can be simulated in laboratory by destabilization of silico-alkaline aqueous solutions by addition of calcium ions. The relevant features of the reaction depend on the nature of alkaline ions (Li+, Na+, or K+) and on the silica/alkaline ratios which fix the distribution of the molecular species in the precursor solution. 29Si NMR spectroscopy and small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) techniques were used to study the structure and size distribution of molecular and colloidal species in sols with different silica/alkaline molar ratio and several types of alkaline ions. Experimental SAXS curves were simulated using a simple structural model …
