Giant deep lobe parotid tumor removal via total parotidectomy without mandibulotomy. A simple and safe technique

The transmandibular route is often combined with the transparotid-transcervical approach when extensive surgical field exposure is required, as in the case of deep parotid lobe tumors measuring over 4 cm in size. This procedure implies great morbidity and prolongs surgery time. Furthermore, in cases where additional lip division is performed, the aesthetic outcomes may be poorer. A description is made of the technique used for the removal of giant pleomorphic adenomas of the parapharyngeal space, without mandibulotomy. In this paper we establish a new stability result for the smooth volume preserving mean curvature flow in flat torus $\mathbb T^n$ in low dimensions $n=3,4$. The result says roughly that if the initial set is near to a strictly stable set in $\mathbb T^n$ in $H^3$-sense, then the corresponding flow has infinite lifetime and converges exponentially fast to a translate of the strictly stable (critical) set in $W^{2,5}$-sense.

Obese individuals without metabolic comorbidities are categorized as metabolically healthy obese (MHO). MicroRNAs (miRNAs) may be implicated in MHO. This cross-sectional study explores the link between circulating miRNAs and the main components of metabolic syndrome (MetS) in the context of obesity. We also examine oxidative stress biomarkers in MHO vs. metabolically unhealthy obesity (MUO). We analysed 3536 serum miRNAs in 20 middle-aged obese individuals: 10 MHO and 10 MUO. Feeling positive emotions seems to favour an adaptive cardiovascular response (greater heart rate variability, HRV), associated with improved cognitive performance. This study aims to test whether the induction of a positive emotional state produce such cardiovascular response and therefore, enhance coping and performance in Tower of Hanoi (ToH). Bottomonium precision tests from full lattice QCD: Hyperfine splitting, Υ leptonic width, and b quark contribution to e+e− → hadrons

We calculate the mass difference between the \ud Υ\ud and \ud η\ud b\ud and the \ud Υ\ud leptonic width from lattice QCD using the Highly Improved Staggered Quark formalism for the \ud b\ud quark and including \ud u\ud , \ud d\ud , \ud s\ud and \ud c\ud quarks in the sea. We have results for lattices with lattice spacing as low as 0.03 fm and multiple heavy quark masses, enabling us to map out the heavy quark mass dependence and determine values at the \ud b\ud quark mass. Fungi are ecologically important in several ecosystem processes, yet their community composition, ecophysiological roles, and responses to changing environmental factors in historical sediments are rarely studied. Here we explored ancient fungal DNA from lake Lielais Svētiņu sediment throughout the Holocene (10.5 kyr) using the ITS metabarcoding approach. Our data revealed diverse fungal taxa and smooth community changes during most of the Holocene with rapid changes occurring in the last few millennia. Degenerate Riemann theta functions, Fredholm and wronskian representations of the solutions to the KdV equation and the degenerate rational case

International audience; We degenerate the finite gap solutions of the KdV equation from the general formulation given in terms of abelian functions when the gaps tend to points, to get solutions to the KdV equation given in terms of Fredholm determinants and wronskians. For this we establish a link between Riemann theta functions, Fredholm determinants and wronskians. This gives the bridge between the algebro-geometric approach and the Darboux dressing method.We construct also multi-parametric degenerate rational solutions of this equation.

Lower Extremity Artery Disease as a Predictor of Coronary Artery Disease

Abstract Coronary artery disease (CAD) is an important determinant of long-term outcome in patients with lower extremity artery disease (LEAD). In this study we evaluated the CAD prevalence among LEAD patients and the association of LEAD lesions location with the CAD presence and severity. 203 patients with LEAD, referred for peripheral and simultaneous coronary angiography, were evaluated. LEAD and CAD were considered angiographically significant for stenosis higher than 50% of arterial lumen. More than two-thirds of LEAD patients had significant CAD, half of them having multi-vessel CAD and a quarter single CAD. Abstract Aims To analyze therapeutic inertia in type 2 diabetes (T2D) subjects with suboptimal glycemic control and treated with ≥2 non-insulin antidiabetic agents in a primary care setting. AbstractMetabolons represent the structural organization of proteins for metabolic or regulatory pathways. Here the interaction of enzymes fumarase FumB and aspartase AspA with the C4-DC transporters DcuA and DcuB of Escherichia coli was tested by a bacterial two-hybrid (BACTH) assay in situ, or by co-chromatography (mSPINE). DcuB interacted strongly with FumB and AspA, and DcuA with AspA. Occurrence and Antimicrobial Resistance of Arcobacter spp. Recovered from Aquatic Environments

Arcobacter spp. are emerging waterborne and foodborne zoonotic pathogens responsible for gastroenteritis in humans. In this work, we evaluated the occurrence and the antimicrobial resistance profile of Arcobacter isolates recovered from different aquatic sources. Besides, we searched for Arcobacter spp. in seaweeds and the corresponding seawater samples. Bacteriological and molecular methods applied to 100 samples led to the isolation of 28 Arcobacter isolates from 27 samples. Breast cancer in previously thyroidectomized patients: which thyroid disorders are a risk factor?

The aim of this study was to evaluate whether there are thyroid diseases in which breast cancer will appear later as well as the role of autoimmunity. This was a retrospective observational study. A total of 410 females (thyroid surgery and later breast cancer) and 524 females (thyroid surgery only) were compared with regard to pathological thyroid findings, thyroid hormones, thyroid autoimmunity and type of breast cancer.
