Multiresolution approach for image processing
1996
Multiresolution approaches provide a powerful tool for image process- ing. In this report,we propose an overview of different types of multiresolu- tion. We show this methodology is composed of two main complementary steps, the bottom-up and the top-down strategies. We also present some important existing applications like filtering and features extraction. Fi- nally, a brief comparison of the different techniques is given and some new interesting possible use of this tool are exhibited.

In this paper it is shown with the help of a small sample that accounting is ethically loaded; that there exists ethical frustration caused by situational factors related to accounting; and that most probably the situational pressures may also change the level of ethics in the Kohlbergian sense; and that in studying accounting-related ethical problems empirically, the paper-and pencil tests and interviewing may give biased results. The genus Encyrtoscelio Dodd is revised. E. apterus (Szelényi), E. mirissimus Dodd, E. turneri Waterston are redescribed, and six new species are described: E. cydni Caleca, E. japonicus Caleca, E. mediterraneus Caleca, E. miroides Caleca, E. spuratus Caleca and E. undecim Caleca. A key to separate females is presented, and is based on the number of antennomeres and claval sensillar formula, mandibular spurs and teeth, palpal formula and clypeus, and some cephalic characters. Morphological adaptations of the head and mandibles are discussed in relation to host habitat and oviposition site. The genus Lysaphidus Smith, 1944 (Hymenoptera, Braconidae, Aphidiinae) is recorded for the first time from the Iberian Peninsula represented by two species: L. arvensis Stary, 1960, first record for the Iberian Peninsula, and L. santolinae n. sp., both of them parasitoids of Coloradoa Wilson,1910 genus (Homoptera, Aphididae). The mummies were collected on Santolina chamaecyparissus L. and Santolina rosmarinifolia L. (Asteraceae).
Tetanus Toxin Inhibits Neuroexocytosis Even When Its Zn2+-dependent Protease Activity Is Removed

Tetanus toxin (TeTX) is a dichain protein that blocks neuroexocytosis, an action attributed previously to Zn(2+)-dependent proteolysis of synaptobrevin (Sbr) by its light chain (LC). Herein, its cleavage of Sbr in rat cerebrocortical synaptosomes was shown to be minimized by captopril, an inhibitor of certain metalloendoproteases, whereas this agent only marginally antagonized the inhibition of noradrenaline release, implicating a second action of the toxin. This hypothesis was proven by preparing three mutants (H233A, E234A, H237A) of the LC lacking the ability to cleave Sbr and reconstituting them with native heavy chain. Abstract To demonstrate the direct interfacial position of nucleotide binding sites between subunits of proteins we have synthesized the bifunctional photoaffinity label 2,8-diazidoadenosine 5′-triphosphate (2,8-DiN3ATP). UV irradiation of the F1-ATPase (TF1) from the thermophilic bacterium PS3 in the presence of 2,8-DiN3ATP results in a nucleotide-dependent inactivation of the enzyme and in a nucleotide-dependent formation of α-β crosslinks. The results confirm an interfacial localization of all the nucleotide binding sites on TF1.
Gamma-Z interferometry at a phi-factory

We analyze the possibilities that the proposed $\Phi$-factories offer to measure $\gamma-Z$ interference. In the unpolarized beam case, we study different signatures in the $\rho \pi$ channel, taking advantage of the presence of the near-by $a_1$ resonance. We build a C-odd forward-backward asymmetry, estimated to be around $10^{-5}$, and (P-even, T-even) and (P-odd, T-odd) alignments of the $\rho$, to be seen from the angular distribution of its $\pi \pi$ decay products. With polarized electrons a left-right asymmetry around $2\times 10^{-4}$ is present in all channels. At leading order this asymmetry is independent of hadronic matrix elements and is sensitive to the $Z^0-s\bar{s}$ vector …
Isoscalar Roper excitation in p(alpha,alpha') reactions in the 10-15 GeV region

Recent experiments at Saturne at $4$ $GeV$ showed that the $(\alpha,\alpha')$ reaction on the proton shows two distinctive peaks, which were associated to $\Delta$ projectile excitation and Roper target excitation. A subsequent theoretical analysis has shown that this picture is qualitatively correct but there are important interference effects between the two mechanisms. Futhermore, at this energy the ratio of strengths for the Roper and $\Delta$ peak is about $1/4$. In the present paper we show that by going to the $10 - 15$ $GeV$ region the interference effects become negligible, the signal for the Roper excitation is increased by more than an order of magnitude and the ratio of cross se…
Solvable Models for radiating Black Holes and Area-preserving Diffeomorphisms

Solvable theories of 2D dilaton gravity can be obtained from a Liouville theory by suitable field redefinitions. In this paper we propose a new framework to generate 2D dilaton gravity models which can also be exactly solved in the semiclassical approximation. Our approach is based on the recently introduced scheme to quantize massless scalar fields coupled to 2D gravity maintaining invariance under area-preserving diffeomorphisms and Weyl transformations. Starting from the CGHS model with the new effective action we reestablish the full diffeomorphism invariance by means of an adequate family of field redefinitions. The temperature dependence (300 to 10 K) of the electronic absorption spectra of the cobalt chromophore in bovine superoxide dismutase (SOD) having the native Zn(II) ion selectivity replaced by Co(II) has been investigated in four different derivatives: Cu(II),Co(II) SOD, N3(-)-Cu(II), Co(II) SOD, Cu(I),Co(II) SOD, and E,Co(II) SOD in which the copper ion has been selectively removed. In the Cu(II),Co(II) SOD, the cobalt spectrum is characterized at room temperature by three bands centered at 18,472, 17,670, and 16,793 cm-1; the low-frequency band is split, at low temperatures, into two components, indicating a lower symmetry contribution to a predominantly tetrahedral crystal field. Diffeomorphisms, Noether charges, and the canonical formalism in two-dimensional dilaton gravity

We carry out a parallel study of the covariant phase space and the conservation laws of local symmetries in two-dimensional dilaton gravity. Our analysis is based on the fact that the Lagrangian can be brought to a form that vanishes on-shell giving rise to a well-defined covariant potential for the symplectic current. We explicitly compute the symplectic structure and its potential and show that the requirement to be finite and independent of the Cauchy surface restricts the asymptotic symmetries.
Elastic light scattering from semiconductor structures: Localized versus propagating intermediate electronic excitations

We present a theoretical study of the relative role of localized and propagating intermediate electronic states in the processes of elastic scattering of light. Only localized excitations lead to isotropic scattering in lowest-order perturbation theory. Inhomogeneous broadening of the optical transition affects the scattering efficiency from the ordered and disordered array of localized states in a qualitatively different way. The propagating electronic excitations may only contribute to elastic light scattering via higher-order processes. The scattering of excitons by impurities or the interface roughness potential is suggested as a mechanism for the contribution of propagating excitations…
