We introduce a new class of multiplications of distributions in one dimension merging two different regularizations of distributions. Some of the features of these multiplications are discussed in detail. Rev protein suppression of complex formation between nuclear proteins and rev-responsive element-containing RNA of human immunodeficiency virus-1

The Rev protein from human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) is known to bind Rev responsive element (RRE) sequence of HIV-1 mRNA. This interaction is thought to enhance expression of viral structural proteins but the mechanism for this effect is uncertain. Abstract The magnetic circular dichroism of the optical absorption (MCD), optically detected magnetic resonance (ODMR) as well as ESR and luminescence in Cd- doped BaF2 crystals γ-irradiated at RT were investigated. MCD signals centered at 295 nm, 290 nm and 365 nm are observed, together with corresponding radiation induced optical absorption bands in the same wavelength regions. We compare theoretically the intensity of the ${\mathit{B}}_{1\mathit{g}}$ phonon Raman scattering in ${\mathrm{YBa}}_{2}$${\mathrm{Cu}}_{3}$${\mathrm{O}}_{7}$ above and below the superconducting transition temperature ${\mathit{T}}_{\mathit{c}}$. Our analysis shows that a considerable enhancement of the scattering intensity in the superconducting state that is observed experimentally can be caused by an extension of the number of intermediate electronic states near the Fermi surface that participate in the Raman process.

In vivo microdialysis was used to estimate the extracellular concentrations of ceftazidime and ceftriaxone, two expanded-spectrum cephalosporins commonly used in the treatment of bacterial meningitis, in two brain regions (the right corpus striatum and the left lateral ventricle) of awake, freely moving rats. Antibiotics were administered by constant intravenous infusion at 18 mg/h until steady-state levels were reached. We discuss the excitation of sterile neutrinos in the early universe using general quantum kinetic equations, which also incorporate a possible primordial magnetic field $B$. We find a new contribution to the excitation propability, which has its origin in the shrinkage of the spin vector. In the absence of $B$ nucleosynthesis implies the constraint $\mid \Delta m^2\mid\sin^22\theta_0\lsim 1.6\times 10^{-6}~{\rm eV}^2$ which is more restrictive than previous estimates. We also present examples of possible stringent limits for $B\ne 0$.

Abstract Assembly of noncentrosymmetric multilayers is a facile technique for preparing noncentrosymmetric films avoiding electrical poling procedures and problems from subsequent relaxation of the induced orientational order. A maximum Xzzz of 13 × 10−9 esu was achieved for the assembly of up to six layers. Current problems are the long-term hydrolysation of the hemicyanine nonlinear optical chromophores and the reduction of polar orientation with increasing layer thickness.

Abstract The concept of mesophase stabilization by partial fluorination of side chains has been extended to discotic systems. The mesophase structure is essentially unchanged, whereas the temperature range of the mesophase is strongly affected by the fluorinated side chains. Triphenylene substituted with only one partially fluorinated side chain exhibits a decrease of the clearing temperature, whereas for symmetrically substituted systems a broad range mesophase has been observed. This behaviour can be attributed to a segregation of the incompatible parts of the molecule giving rise to a stabilized columnar structure for the symmetrical substitution pattern.

We report on our experience with 7 pregnancies in 6 women who previously underwent reconstruction of the urinary tract with a continent urinary diversion using an ileo caecal segment (Mainz-Pouch I), ureterosigmoidostomy or bladder augmentation. Urinary tract infection and upper tract dilatation were the only complications during pregnancy which required bilateral nephrostomies in one case. All other sequelae were handled conservatively. We present a new land-only data set of monthly precipitation from 1951 to 1990, focusing on subequatorial South America and Africa, which improves the knowledge of rainfall variability and allows comparisons with GCM outputs. Measurements of the charged particle multiplicity distribution in restricted rapidity intervals

Charged particle multiplicity distributions have been measured with the ALFPH detector in restricted rapidity intervals \Y\ less than or equal to 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 along the thrust axis and also without restriction on rapidity. The distribution for the full range can be parametrized by a log-normal distribution. For smaller windows one finds a more complicated structure, which is understood to arise from perturbative effects. The negative-binomial distribution fails to describe the data both with and without the restriction on rapidity. The JETSET model is found to describe all aspects of the data while the width predicted by HERWIG is in significant disagreement.

We calculate the Isgur-Wise function by measuring the elastic scattering amplitude of a $D$ meson in the quenched approximation on a $24^3\times48$ lattice at $\beta=6.2$, using an $O(a)$-improved fermion action. Fitting the resulting chirally-extrapolated Isgur-Wise function to Stech's relativistic-oscillator parametrization, we obtain a slope parameter $\rho^2=1.2+7-3. We then use this result, in conjunction with heavy-quark symmetry, to extract $V_{cb}$\ from the experimentally measured $\bar B\to D^*l\bar\nu\,$\ differential decay width. We find $|V_{cb}|\sqrt{\tau_B/1.48{\mathrm ps}}= 0.038 +2-2 +8-3, where the first set of errors is due to experimental uncertainties, while the second …

Abstract This paper focus on theory of diffusion-controlled annealing of the most mobile radiation-induced defects—I centers—in KCl crystals. The kinetics of annealing of pairs of close oppositely charged defects—α-I centers (arising as a result of the tunnelling recombination of primary Frenkel defects—F and H centers) and F-I centers (when H center trap electrons) is calculated taking into account defect diffusion and Coulomb/elastic interaction.
