Arachidonic acid (AA, 20:4) is a major constituent of membrane phospholipids in brain tissue. Normally, the free fatty acid is present only in a small amount, but it accumulates under adverse conditions, such as ischemia or brain injury [1,9]. The release of free fatty acid involves activation of phospholipases and breakdown of membrane phospholipids. AA in particular is considered to mediate pathological processes. The polyunsaturated compound is a precursor of prostaglandins, leukotrienes, and oxygen-derived free radicals [11]. In cerebral ischemia concentrations of free AA of up to 0.5 mM/kg have been found in brain tissue [9].

A study on the adsorption voltammetry of titanium with various heterocyclic azo-compounds

The voltammetric behaviour of various heterocyclic azo-compounds and their Ti-complexes was investigated at a stationary Hg electrode. In moderately acidic solutions Ti(IV) reacts with pyridylazo-compounds (PAR, 5-Br-PADAP, PAN), thiazolylazo-compounds (TAR, 5-Me-TAR, TAN, 4-Me-TAP) and pyrazolylazo-compounds (MDR, ERB) to form Ti-complexes, which are strongly adsorbed onto the Hg-electrode. These complexes are reduced at potentials more negative than those corresponding to the reduction of their respective ligands. Search for pair-produced heavy scalars in Z° decays

1994

A search for charged Higgs bosons decaying into quarks is described, based on statistics of around 1.7 million hadronic Z0 decays detected in DELPHI. Despite the very high background from standard hadronic decays of the Z0, masses in the range up to 43.5 GeV/c2 are excluded at the 95% con dence level. After combination with a search for leptonic decays, this mass limit is extended to cover all branching ratios. A similar analysis sets new limits on the possible production of any pair-produced heavy scalar decaying into a pair of jets, such as neutral Higgs bosons in a two doublet scheme and diquarks.

Presentamos el hallazgo de un nuevo miliario de la Via Augusta dedicado al emperador Caracalla y fechado en el año 214. A nuestro parecer, la cifra correspondiente a los milia passum permite enunciar diferentes hipótesis sobre la localización de un nuevo terminus uiae y del limes septentrional del territorio de la ciudad de Saguntum, y sobre la identificación de la mansio lldum mencionada en los itinerarios con el yacimiento del Hostalot donde este miliario ha sido encontrado.

Critical review of the atomic spectrometric analysis of arsenic in foods

The literature on the determination of arsenic in foods by atomic spectroscopy involving hydride generation, platform furnace Zeeman and inductively coupled plasma has been critically reviewed. Hydride generation has been largely displaced as a powerful tool by platform furnace Zeeman, using the STPF (stabilized temperature platform furnace) concept for the control of interferences. Inductively coupled plasma with conventional pneumatic nebulization has been little used. An alternative is to employ hydride generation-ICP with extraction of the arsenic in an organic phase. Residual water and electrical properties of polyaniline

The work aims to study the mechanism of interaction between water molecules and polyaniline (PANI) backbone as an important constituent of acid-base transformations ensuring good conductive properties of PANI. Experiments have been made using chemically synthesized emeraldine base subjected to different chemical treatments and aging procedures. Thermogravimetric measurement have shown that water content in polymeric matrices may amount up to 20-25 wt.% with two distinguished reversible absorbance states of water molecules. Transition path selection between ammonium nitrate solid phases IV, III and II

Article dissertation. Contains an introduction and five articles. This study was made of factors affecting the transition paths between ammonium nitrate solid state phases IV, III and II. The effect of the sample preparation method was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), transition mechanisms were explored with simultaneous DSC and Raman spectrometry developed for in situ investigation of the transitions, and the relationship between phase IV structure and the transition paths was studies by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and DSC. Abstract The use of quasi-equilibrium volumetry associated with isothermal microcalorimetry at 77 K allows direct measurement of the interactions on adsorption of simple probe molecules within well crystallised aluminophosphate and zeolite molecular sieves. Four particular cases are presented which show: the effect of varying micropore diameter, the effect of adsorbing molecules with a favourable geometric compatibility with a given micropore system, the effect of varying the field potential within a given micropore system and finally, the effect of variable selective blocking of the micropore system.

The 3-O-methylated estrogen derivatives 1a-d and α-estradiol (1e) underwent sulfuric acid-catalysed transformations to furnish the steroids 2–6. The processes involved in the reaction sequence are regioselective sulfonation and, above all, the Wagner-Meerwein rearrangement of the methyl group at C-13. Lesión digital crónica por atrapamiento intradérmico del anillo: caso clínico

Se presenta un raro caso de lesión crónica por inclusión de un anillo en la base del dedo recubierto por epidermis. No se evidenció lesión neurovascular. La exéresis se realizó bajo anestesia local conservando el dedo. El presente caso ilustra la importancia de prevenir estas lesiones extrayendo los anillos en la fase de edema agudo. An unusual case of embedded ring injury is presented in a patient without neurovascular damage of the finger. The present case remarks the need of removing the ring at the early phase of finger edema.

Alteraciones fisarias tras radiación láser

Ante el auge actual de la radiación láser y al no encontrar bibliografía referente al posible efecto sobre el cartílago de crecimiento, hemos decidido hacer una valoración del mismo en un modelo experimental. Se utilizaron 50 ratas, estableciéndose cinco grupos de estudio de 10 animales cada uno, dependiendo de la dosis de radiación aplicada percutáneamente sobre la fisis femoral distal. Tras el estudio ultraestructural, histoquímico y morfométrico, hemos observado una serie de alteraciones indicadoras de un daño celular directo.
