Se examinan y estudian algunos de los principales libros de viajes de la literatura castellana medieval, en su contexto europeo, con especial atención al 'Libro del conosçimiento', la 'Embajada a Tamorlán' y el 'Tratado' de Pero Tafur. Se analiza los textos, en su contenido y en su poética de pertenencia a un género híbrido, que combina lo narrativo y descriptivo con lo novelesco, y la voz autobiográfica con la necesidad de objetivación didáctica.

EFFECT OF WATER ACTIVITY ON CRISPNESS OF BREAKFAST CEREALS

Three breakfast cereals (two commercial products and one experimental product made by extrusion cooking) were placed over 10 saturated salt solutions in desiccators for 3 weeks and then studied by sensory and mechanical analysis. A slight decrease of sensory crispness intensity occurs between 0 and 0.50 (aw) or 7% (water content), after which there is a very rapid decrease. The value of critical water activity given by the intersection between the two straight lines which can be adjusted seems not to depend on the product. The radiation exposure during biomechanical investigation of the shoulder joint done with a digital radiography system (Polytron 1000 VR - Siemens) was measured experimentally. Total radiation dose and surface dose were determined by phantom measurements. The radiation exposure per image is about 1/6 to 1/7 of that of a conventional study. The digital radiography system used is thus suitable for kinesiologic studies of large joints in healthy volunteers.

Vectorized ‘‘TOPO’’ Program for the Theoretical Simulation of Molecular Shape

The TOPO program for theoretical simulation of molecular shape is presented here. Molecular shape is characterized by a set of electrostatic and geometrical descriptors and topological indices including the fractal dimension of the accessible surface. An atom-atom analysis of all descriptors has been implemented. The program has been adapted for the realization of high-performance computing. Results are reported for porphine and phthalocyanine molecules.

Natural convection heat transfer in a partially—or completely—partitioned vertical rectangular enclosure

Abstract The effect of symmetric partitions protruding centrally from the end walls of a rectangular vertical enclosure on heat transfer rates is investigated numerically. The enclosure has opposite isothermal walls at different temperatures. The Rayleigh number is varied from 10 4 to 10 7 and the aspect ratio from 0.5 to 10. The thickness of the partitions is fixed and equal to one tenth of the width of the enclosure. Their non-dimensional length ( L / H ) is varied from 0 (non-partitioned enclosure) to 0.5 (two separate enclosures). The effect of different thermal boundary conditions at the end walls and at the partitions is included in the investigation.

Left-to-right tree pattern matching

We propose a new technique to construct left-to-right matching automata for trees. Our method is based on the novel concept of prefix unifcation which is used to compute a certain closure of the pattern set. From the closure a kind of deterministic matching automaton can be derived immediately. We also point out how to perform the construction incrementally which makes our approach suitable for applications in which pattern sets change dynamically, such as in the Knuth-Bendix completion algorithm.

After previous radiation due to pelvic malignoma or after multiple operations, the ileal conduit as well as sigmoid conduit are associated with an increased rate of complications. In these patients, the middle and distal ureter often cannot be considered for reimplantation due to fibrosis. High anastomosis to a bowel segment which is undamaged proves favorable. The Panic-Associated Symptom Scale (PASS) is presented as a new measurement of the severity of the core symptoms of panic disorder. This first description addresses the rationale for its design and its scoring, score distributions, test-retest reliability, correlations within the PASS and with other scales, principal component structure, and response to drug therapy. Data are presented from a large study group of patients with panic disorder (n = 1168). Problems in measuring panic disorder are discussed.
