A very simple one-pot electrosynthesis of nitrones starting from nitro and aldehyde components

The cathodic treatment of nitroarenes in the presence of aldehydes yields directly and selectively nitrones. Electrolysis can be conducted on a very simple undivided beaker-type cell under constant current conditions. The conversion tolerates multiple bonds, a variety of functional groups and heterocyclic moieties. Competing reductive conversions such as pinacolization are not observed. The green aspects of this electro-conversion are avoidance of metals, an environmentally benign solvent mixture, and stable as well as sustainable carbon electrodes.
The ELECTRE I method to support the FMECA

Abstract In traditional Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), risk priorities of failure modes are determined through the Risk Priority Number (RPN), which is a function of the three risk parameters Occurrence (O), Severity (S), and Detection (D). In the present paper, an alternative approach to RPN is proposed for the criticality assessment of system failure modes. Particularly, the Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) method ELECTRE I is proposed to select the most critical failure mode in the set of the failure modes charactering a complex system. The method has been applied to a case study previously proposed by Zammori and Gabrielli (2012).

The impact of wood-derived biochar on the survival of Trichoderma spp. and growth of Secale cereale L. in sandy soil

The interrelations between biochar (BC) and soil microbiota remain unclear. Addressing this will be important for understanding how BC affects soil properties and plant growth. Here, we tested the influence of wood-derived BC with immobilised Trichoderma viride on rye Secale cereale L. in sandy soil. We found that the addition of BC leads to a significant (P 2+ and Mg2+, as well as a decrease in the concentration of Al3+, irrespective of BC particle size and the presence of T. viride. Our aim was to survey the prevalence of severe reactivation and rebound after discontinuation of fingolimod in a cohort of Italian patients with MS. Aims: In Italy, incidence rates of thyroid cancer (TC) are among the highest world- wide with substantial intracountry heterogeneity. The aim of the study was to examine time trends of TC incidence in Italy and to estimate the proportion of TC cases potentially attribut- able to overdiagnosis. Methods: Data on TC cases reported to Italian cancer registries during 1998e2012 aged <85 years were included. Age-standardised incidence rates (ASR) were computed by sex, period, and histology. R wave is one of the most important sections of the QRS complex, which has an essential role in diagnosis of heart rhythm irregularities. This paper is concerned with the adaptation of alternating direction implicit (ADI) time discretization schemes for the numerical solution of partial integro-differential equations (PIDEs) with application to the Bates model in finance. Three different adaptations are formulated and their (von Neumann) stability is analyzed. Tässä tutkimuksessa selvitettiin, missä määrin lukion opintomenestys selittää yliopisto-opinnoissa menestymistä ja opintojen etenemistä. Aineisto muodostui 120:n vuonna 2006 opintonsa aloittaneen liikuntatieteiden tai kielten yliopisto-opiskelijan takautuvista opintotiedoista. Tutkittavista kerättiin lukiosuoritusten arvosanat, ja heidän yliopisto-opintojensa etenemisnopeutta ja suoritustasoa seurattiin vuoteen 2015 saakka. Species-genetic diversity correlations (SGDCs) are useful indicators of processes that simultaneously affect diversity at multiple biological levels. We combined spatial and temporal sampling of 4 study sites in the Danish Isefjord-Roskilde Fjord Estuary at 4 time points over 1 yr to investigate the effect of seasonal variation on SGDCs.
